Here it is, where I'm making it. This is a WIP thread. My camera is out of battery, so I will provide more pictures soon.

The Lowdown:

The first half of the mold just went PERFECT, no air bubbles...NOTHING!!!!! I did the second half...but guess what? IT WAS PERFECT! But....it broke :[ . So now I re-poured it and hoped it would work. However, I did manage to do a cast and it (besides being a little lobsided and a couple of air bubles...was very good...and it was a snug fit. I predict a very good replica...even has the

Nice, but I doubt you can produce them on a mass scale, as the demads for it are well.. mass... But nice work. Where can I buy stuff like that? Ie- The Silicone for the mold and what you made the Shako out of (resin?).

I could get a good number of these made, lots, so I imagine I can at least get a good number of these out for sale.

Oh, the silicon stuff? It's called Allumilite, for a 'super pack', it comes with resin (creamy color), measuring cups, 1 Lb. Clay, 1 Lb RTV silicon...and some more...this'll go for 80$

You can get just the RTV silicon for 30$.

Very promising first result.

At least it's the first custom molded shako we have seen so far.

P.S.: I'm willing to order the first bulk of 20 pieces :'-)

This is fantastic! I have been waiting all summer to see your project. These are turning out very well, and it appears we can finally have some affordable solution to hatless imperial soldiers. Let us know when we can start placing orders with you, I know I will! *y*

Actually, the hole thing is PERFECT, the biggest problem I'm having is the locking mechanism, since it's so thin, it breaks easily, and it has alot of friction and is hard to pull off without breaking it. My latest mold proke, but I'm gonna try it again soon.

One silly question. Wouldn't it be easier to make a shako together with a head?

Just a question on my limited knowledge of resin casting:

IS, do you spray anything onto the wall of your caste before placing in "the goo" for casting?

In chemistry, we made bouncy balls and there was something sprayed onto the walls to prevent the ball from sticking onto the wall.

Ahhh, sweet, I was planning on doing this for myself so I wouldnt have to spend a million dollars on them! :-P One thing I might suggest, if you put a bit of sculpty on the insides where theres space not needed so when it gets casted its more solid so the sides wont break. (I got pics of a clone helmet im doing, if you need pic refrence to know what im talking about)

I thought it would be interesting to show this: BrickArms Mold

Very interesting, I thought that the molding forms BrickArms did, contain more items then two ...

Did you make any further progress with the shakoos in the meantime ???

No. I'm not going to replicate the shakos anymore (they're just not suitable for this type of molding.) But I have other era-relevant ideas in mind.

What you are looking at here is a prototype mold which Will does himself to test out designs (hence the title of the picture: "Test Mold") . He brought several to show at NWBrickCon last weekend. His production molds are much bigger and contain several different weapons.
