natelite Posted August 29, 2007 Posted August 29, 2007 Hello, So i subscribed to the brickmaster magazine in the hope of landing some exclusive sets according to rumors that it may contain exclusive sets from SW, Indy, batman, etc. and to do review of what i receive for the benefit of forum members. *y* so far july's set was a crappy small racer set. it's not even $5 in value, which was what they promised and advertised on S@H. so yeah, i'm extremely pissed off. if this goes on for the 5 other sets that's $39.99 flushed down the toilet. not only that, but i got short changed as i got only one $5 off coupon instead of the 2 that was advertised. not impressed at all. anyway, i don't think anyone wants me to review that set right? it's 8131. SETS: JULY - 8131 raceway rider SEPT - 8132 night driver NOV - ???? ------------------------ original thread: http://eurobricks.hosting.ipsyn.com/eurofo...showtopic=10052 Lego Community Development Editor in Chief and BZPower member Greg Farshtey is announcing a new addition to the BrickMaster magazine - completely exclusive Lego sets. These sets will include representatives from Star Wars, City, Indiana Jones, and our own favorite, Bionicle. These sets will have a retail value ranging from US $5.99 - $6.99 and will not be available anywhere else. Beginning on July 16, this new offer will be available both by phone (call 1-800-651-0323) and on LEGOshop.com under offer #KBM27. A subscription will not include the "From the Vaults" CD-ROM but will instead provide a six-issue, one-year subscription with one exclusive set per issue. The first of these issues will release November 2007. Quote
trooperdavinfelth Posted August 29, 2007 Posted August 29, 2007 Quick question for you: Does the Brickmaster Subscription last for two years? If so, then it should have been from January to December. One problem. The Indy sets only come out in 2008. So I don't think you'll have much luck in 2007. Quote
Shadows Posted August 29, 2007 Posted August 29, 2007 Quick question for you: Does the Brickmaster Subscription last for two years? If so, then it should have been from January to December. One problem. The Indy sets only come out in 2008. So I don't think you'll have much luck in 2007. It runs a year, but it doesn't run for a calendar year. Meaning, it starts whenever you sign up and ends a year later, no matter when it was. I joined last year and it was mostly useless. With the 'licensed' rumour this year, when mine came due I called and signed up for another year. I did ask the rep on the phone if she knew anything about it and she acted like we could expect something along those lines in the next year, but couldn't be specific. She may have just been saying what she knew I wanted to hear to make the sale. Sadly, the phone reps are rarely informed when it comes to anything in the future. I signed up anyway. If they dupe me this year, I'm out. Quote
natelite Posted August 29, 2007 Author Posted August 29, 2007 you haven't subscribed before right? it's july, sep, nov, etc. every two months beginning july. and it is one year only. where did you get the two year figure from? i have included the link to the initial discussion. if you just want the summary, basically it promised exclusive, not found in retail store, sets from various themes/lines, including SW, batman, indy, etc. anyone else has any luck with their set? simonwillems Posted August 29, 2007 Posted August 29, 2007 i don't think anyone wants me to review that set right? it's 8131. Ouch!! That set really, really sucks! :-X No problem therefor if you refrain from reviewing... Quote
trooperdavinfelth Posted August 29, 2007 Posted August 29, 2007 (edited) Ouch is right! That set is worthless! Nope. Never before. It seemed like a waste of hard earned money and everything you got didn't really amount to anything I'd ever spend money on in a store. However, I'd gladly spend money on unique sets! Anyway, if it's one year, I'm not signing up this year, but I might come December. I mean to get every exclusive Lego Star Wars set out there! And Batman. And Indy. xwingyoda Posted August 29, 2007 Posted August 29, 2007 Tks for the update Natelite and sorry it turns out so crappy as of now |-/ Could you nonetheless post a pic of every set you got in that thread, that would really be cool to see for those of us who can't get that ;-) Tks in advance ;-) Much appreciated ! *yoda* Quote
Corpreal363 Posted August 29, 2007 Posted August 29, 2007 Each year my year My brickmaster subscribtion goes two months short! X-O Say Vhat? I subcribed in december and this year they cut me of in June July WTF??? Quote
natelite Posted August 29, 2007 Author Posted August 29, 2007 Sure, I'll update when I receive the sept set. Where though? In here? can everyone who subscribe to the publication update what they get too? i understand there to be some degree of randomness to the sets that you can receive so i am not sure if i was just unlucky or what. *wacko* Quote
SirNadroj Posted August 30, 2007 Posted August 30, 2007 I've been subscribed since Christmas, and I got nothing special so far. A couple $5 small sets, and a crappy racer or two. The only good things are the coupons, the issue, and the small cement mixer polybagged LEGO I got for subscribing. :-X Quote
Shadows Posted August 30, 2007 Posted August 30, 2007 The only good things are the coupons, the issue, and the small cement mixer polybagged LEGO I got for subscribing. :-X Exactly! I really like that mixer, but the rest has been junk. Bionicle last time nearly pushed me over the edge >:-( Quote
natelite Posted August 30, 2007 Author Posted August 30, 2007 i browse the order status on shop at home and saw the next set to be shipped to me on sep 08. the first set was on backorder apparently since i received it yesterday. anyone want to take a guess what the next set i will be receiving on sep 08? freaking 8132. two mini racers set. what are the odds?!?!?! *wacko* this just makes me wanna :'-( :-X :-| |-/ >:-( *n* at this point all i can think of is that this is just another gimmick to get rid of their slow moving crap megablocks shit. someone in marketing must be thinking "oh, let's just get rid of those sets that no one want by packaging them to fans who buy brickmaster subscription. these are no life die hard fans and any set is good enough. no need to worry about pissing them off since they will buy any lego regardless what crap as-s we shove down their throats." i swear if they shove another crap as-s racer or bionicle to me in NOV, i am going to sulk! and i am no longer going to buy at retail price. only during sale. no more top dollar for TLC. you just pissed off another die hard fan whom you can shove around and will just keep coming back to take more crap. hmm, there might be a subliminal connection why i have a rabbit, with a plunger on its head, sitting on the potty, making crap cakes for my avatar. john cleese Posted August 30, 2007 Posted August 30, 2007 (edited) why would a $39.00 subscription get you free $20.00 or $10.00 sets? :-/ Originally i thought you were talking about sets you could buy that werent sold on S@H or in retail outlets. Also these sets arent so bad, if you get one every month youll save yourself $21.00, and in my books every penny counts. However i could see where you might be disgruntled, as $21.00 a year is practically nothing. Edited August 30, 2007 by john cleese Quote
PSPguy Posted August 30, 2007 Posted August 30, 2007 Everytime I think of an Indy small set all I think of is Indy on a motorcycle. Quote
john cleese Posted August 30, 2007 Posted August 30, 2007 Everytime I think of an Indy small set all I think of is Indy on a motorcycle. that would be kind of a lame set. |-/ Quote

trooperdavinfelth Posted August 30, 2007 Posted August 30, 2007 I'd sell sets that I don't want from Brickmaster on EBay. That way you might earn a little extra cash. Or just sit there waiting for some idiot to bid. Quote
natelite Posted August 30, 2007 Author Posted August 30, 2007 First of all, no one who posted really get the dry humor. Let me highlight it in bold for those without a funny bone. at this point all i can think of is that this is just another gimmick to get rid of their slow moving crap megablocks shit. someone in marketing must be thinking "oh, let's just get rid of those sets that no one want by packaging them to fans who buy brickmaster subscription. these are no life die hard fans and any set is good enough. no need to worry about pissing them off since they will buy any lego regardless what crap as-s we shove down their throats." i swear if they shove another crap as-s racer or bionicle to me in NOV, i am going to sulk! and i am no longer going to buy at retail price. only during sale. no more top dollar for TLC. you just pissed off another die hard fan whom you can shove around and will just keep coming back to take more crap. hmm, there might be a subliminal connection why i have a rabbit, with a plunger on its head, sitting on the potty, making crap cakes for my avatar. Secondly, the announcement amounts to false advertising namely on 2 purported "facts": 1. the sets are exclusive and not available anywhere else. 2. retail value ranging from $5.99 to $6.99. Shall I point out why these two are false? The two racer sets are readily available from any retail toy shops including target, walmart and tru. And they retail for $4.99. So yeah, it a waste of $39.99 for crappy sets. I wouldn't recommend anyone to subscribe at this stage. So much for "exclusive SW or Indy sets"!!! Hehe :-P IMO, they could have easily made this a blockbuster subscription without resorting to "LIES". All they gotta do is package small tiny sets like those EF mini bags given with the Donald Duck mags in Europe. Those aren't sold anywhere and can be legitly called "exclusive" yet aren't exactly "have-to-haves". They won't pissed off die hard europe fans who can't subscribe, and they won't pissed off die hard US fans who fell for their false ad claims. On the plus side, the july edition has instructions for a rather neat MM tank made from the combo of 2 MM sets. With that I end my rant. :-P Quote
sam89 Posted August 30, 2007 Posted August 30, 2007 But it also says that "The first of these issues will release November 2007." So no false advertising ;-) Quote
Big Pete Posted November 5, 2007 Posted November 5, 2007 i wish they did Brickmaster in other countries other than the USA, I would subscribe! Quote
natelite Posted November 14, 2007 Author Posted November 14, 2007 brickmaster set for nov has arrived. not going to do a review because i think we already have one. it's the small city sets 4991 police helicopter and the 4992 fire boat. also available in europe from magic box/quick fastfood chain. it seems australians also received them in sep/oct free with their lego magazines (brickmaster too?). I have included a scan of the brickmaster exclusive instruction for alternative models. http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/godfrey/...k/bm_nov_07.jpg it's kinda large so i just left it as a link. wonder when we can start receiving _REAL_ exclusive sets from indy or SW. :-P Quote
Derek Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 Do you mean free with normal magazines? We never get anything like that in the US! Quote
Siegfried Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 it seems australians also received them in sep/oct free with their lego magazines (brickmaster too?). I can confirm that! *wub* One of the few things better than Lego is FREE lego! *sweet* Quote
