Egyptian set

Hello everybody,

This is my first post here and my first large MOC. I am planning on building a minifig scale model of an egyptian temple (like Karnak or Luxor, for instance).

The temple will consist of three pylons, an outer courtyard, a great hyposteles hall and various inner chambers and sanctuaries. Below is a small, mini-scale model.

The temple will be approx. 1.80 meters long, with the outer pylon standing at 40 cm tall. I made LDD models of the various sections, which I will post later on. I was thinking of making the temple in tan colour. However, I understand tan bricks are quite rare, and most of the slope parts I would need for making the pylons are already out of production.

I was wondering if you know of any (possibly cheap) source of tan bricks and especially slopes. There are appearently not many auctions involving tan lots on e-bay, and tan pieces are usually quite high priced on bricklink and only rarely available in the required quantities (consider that each pylon cosists of approx. 2,000 sloping pieces, and there would be 3 of them)...

Hopefully you either already have or will buy some heiroglyphic pillar/wall pieces.

That'll certainly take up a lot of space ( and some Prince of Persia pieces might bolster it )

Wow, an ambitious project, for sure! I can only wish good luck with it.

Tan slopes are hard to come by, so might I suggest you use tan pillars (2 studs wide, 5 bricks tall) and make them lean to make those sloped walls instead? The pillars come in abundance in Harry Potter sets, I have like 70 of them thanks to those sets.

Your tan slopes problem seems to be a difficult one, Sandy's suggestion is a really good one though. I was going to suggest this piece:

Thanks for the warm welcome and the interesting ideas.

Overall, the structure would be the following:

1. First entrance Pylon

2. Inner courtyard (open-air, sorrounded by colonade on four sides)

3. Second Pylon

4. Great Hyposteles Hall (colonade covered hall)

5. Third Pylon

6. Smaller Hyposteles Hall (only two rows of columns)

7. Inner Shrine: Shrine of the Sun barge, Altars and warehouses.

Well you can get these Slopes:

But that would take time, and look to fine. Mabye it would be easier to use the Ship Building Technique:

And just get a lot of 8x8 Tan plates and make a big wall, then you can tile it later. It will give the "limestone brick" look.

This is starting to look like a very interesting and promising project I really love ancient Egypt, so I'll be sure to follow this

As for the walls it might be just building them with regular bricks and putting hinges at the bottom is the cheapest solution. Or use this: and SNOT it (mount it sideways).

I watched alot of Pyramid shows, but not Palace shows. Because there isn't many temples or palaces left standing.

This is an amazing looking project and a great way to introduce yourself to EB!

Thanks so much for sharing. It's nice to see something (other than castles) designed with such attention to accuracy and historical detail. The layout is superb. I love the mini-scale version too - and it's probably more practical for some of us to imitate!

Good luck sourcing those bricks. If you were planning on a public display and were a member of a LUG, it seems to me that this is EXACTLY the sort of project that the scheme is intending to support. Look here for more info.

Your first plans look really good Horus, there isn't many Egyptian stuff made untill now and i'd love to see this made in real bricks.

As some suggested placing the walls on hinges is the cheapest and easiest way to make the sloped walls. Using different sizes of bricks and having some tiles and/or plates mounted sideways can give a nice texture to them.

Your entrance looks good, except that the flags and the blue & yellow pillars don't look that stable. You should put rods in them to reinforce it.
