Previous part: The Letters

A note before reading. This MOC was originally going to be part of a joint story presented by Legonardo and I back in May. To brush up on events mentioned in this chapter please view the MOCs below! (Being that these are older MOCs, I'd suggest keeping the comments to a 0) The general idea of Cornovaria goes to Legonardo.

Part 1: The Druid's Grave

Part 2: Morias' Mill

Part 3: The Messenger

Part 4: All for One and One for All

Part 5: Receiving Orders

Part 6: The Flight of the Dragons

Part 7: Welcome to the Mystic Isle

Dawn of Ages

Chapter 2: The Cornovaria Chronicles, Part 1: Stalkhead Beach

This chapter takes place a couple days after The Day of Black Victory.

img_7070.jpg

The winds blow ever salty on the shores of the Mystic Isle of Cornovaria. At its shore, Owlan awaits for The Ring along with the Head of Garrison.

On the horizon, ships from Glevum cut through the water. Among them however was a small ship bearing the arms of Lesser Burrium.

img_7069.jpg

It's crew boarded a raft and sailed for the land. Drinnian was the first off the raft; calm, albeit with a smile on his face.

"My good friend," he said, "you have no idea the hell you missed!" Drinnian gave a brotherly hug to the same, albeit much more lax Owlan. His trip had clearly loosened him up from the normal tenseness he had become so accustomed to.

"I had heard what was going through word of mouth," Owlan said. "I'm glad that The Hand didn't take your life!"

Drinnian took a quick glance at Owlan's cape.

"The Varlyrians! Did you hear what happened in Cedrica?"

"No! Is the King dead!?!"

"As far as I know, yes, but that isn't the half of it. The Fifth Guild betrayed us. If you hadn't left when you did, you would have been dead as well."

img_7072.jpg

Owlan fell to the sand in shock. His red Varlyrian cape flowing in the breeze.

"Just take that disgrace of an import off once we reach the town," Drinnian said.

img_7073.jpg

Drinnian looked up and noticed the man behind Owlan.

"By the gods!" he said. "Maisley is that you?"

"It's been a long time," Maisley responded. "Many things have changed for the worse." Maisley looked out at the ocean. "Is that the Army of Glevum?"

"Yes, but they will be heading for the settlements." Drinnian said. "We are a strike force, here to protect the Lord of Cornovaria. Can you lead us to him?"

"Due to recent circumstances, that man stands before you. Apparently the people of Shuckington saw that my being Head of the Garrison was sufficient enough for a promotion to Lord. Anyway, I need a mystery solved inland. Several Cornovarians have gone missing, and a band of living skeletons have been roaming the fields. I believe they are somehow connected, but I will need assistance. Are you up to the challenge?"

"Why wouldn't we be?" Drinnian replied.

img_7074.jpg

Owlan looked up and noticed two men bickering by the raft. Malivan slowly walked away.

"Who are they?" Owlan said.

"Warriors," Drinnian said, "and close friends. You see, Owlan, I take in any man I can find who is willing to serve me in my adventures. You could say I am like a Lord and The Ring is my micro-guild. A micro-guild consisting of people from all over the Guilds, even Ximius and beyond!"

img_7075.jpg

The larger of the bickering warriors walked up to Owlan. He was very clearly a Mitgardian, sporting features only like that of a mountain-man.

"How do ya do?" the brute asked, reaching his hand out, a gesutre that was gentlemanly but seemingly odd for a man of his size.

"I'm...er... Owlan," Owlan responded.

"I've heard many promising things about you. I'm Nordoric, brute from the Mountains of Mitgardia!" Nordoric began flexing his leather plated arms.

The second man dropped the ships contents with a mighty shrug.

img_7077.jpg

"You really are quite the show off, aren't you?" the man said to Drinnian. This man was quite small for a warrior, but he was wielding a bow that was clearly made for precision. "I'm Tristain."

"Now when did I ask you to comment?" Nordoric said.

"I'm just making a point!"

"You're still rattled up about our little chat on the raft?" The squabling of the Mitgardian and the Kaliphlinite continued.

"They've been long time partners," Malivan whispered to Owlan. "They're like brothers, but they never attack each other, even though they are each capable of taking the other down."

img_7079.jpg

"Would you men please focus!" Lord Maisley shouted. "I have an entire island's worth of people at the possible risk of death, and all I have to stop it is a squad of bickering Guildsmen!"

"Anything else?" Drinnian asked. Maisley crossed his arms and sighed. "Still the same as you've always been." Maisley smiled, and turned towards inland.

"Follow me."

C&C is always welcome.

I would like to claim the following credits for the UPDH:

Hydrology: waves (against the coast)

Landscape Design: sideways rocks

General Building: minifig posing

Geography: oceanside

Next part: The Legend of the Reaper

How many credits are you claiming? Reading it, seems to be six. You can only claim four. Please clarify, because I'm willing to approve credit if it's clarified.

Nice build!

However, I think you are claiming too many credits for this one. Regardless if there is a maximum limit (don't know if there is), I think that the more credits claimed for a single build the higher standards they should be judged by.

That said, I'd be happy to +1 "Hydrology: waves" and "General building: minifig posing" without any further consideration, since I think your use of that water technique is well executed and that your minifig posing in this build is great. I also give you +1 for "Geography: oceanside", because I think you've done a good job with the feeling of the whole MOC :classic:

I don't see any forced perspective in this build, and I don't think that just some differences in level of the sand qualifies as "sand dunes", at least not if it is also supposed to be a shore.

Technically you've built sideways rocks here, but when you claim this many credits I want to see more than just a SNOTed slab to give you +1 for showing mastery of that technique.

Thank you all for the kind comments!

Awesome susan mini jr, ive been waiting for this one!

Keep it up!

*Mini Susan.

And I was thinking that I wasn't going to get credit for this build back in May. This may be one of the only occasions where procrastination has benefited me.

Thank you for informing me of that. I've edited the first post accordingly.

+1 for minifig posing, very nicely done and illustrates the story well! Also happy to approve +1 for ocean/sea side geography, good to see a nice natural curve to the coastline there. I initially wasn't sure about the waves claim as i didn't feel that there was enough motion conveyed in the water part of the build, but i'll give it as the scumbling of the surface with the loose elements could indicate small shore waves. Just a note on that - sandy shores do have a gradient, so it helps to show this by building up the sand from the water's edge. (As it is, it looks like yr figs are in danger of getting thier feet wet! ) Sadly i can't approve the sideways rocks credit as i agree with Gideon that i'd like to see more than just a single slab with a flat surface. you could improve it by adding more sideways layers to the rock formation to make it look more natural, but to be honest it looks a little out of place and i think you'd be better off claiming for it in a different moc. :classic:

Thank you all again for the comments and the constructive criticism!

I agree with Gabe and Gideon that the SNOT rock seems a bit flat though :classic:

It does have multiple layers to it (now I regret not getting a better shot), but I understand the reasoning here. Perhaps if the lower layer was out further than the top layer...

Preparation of Ch. I has seen many different rock formations, so if I don't get the credit now, there is always the future.

Nice story!

Thank you.

If I may, I'd like to offer you all with a couple of pieces of trivia that went on with the story.

-I felt that "Head of the Garrison" was too generic of a name for the character that would branch both Legonardo's and my MOCs together. Thus he was given the name Maisley.

-Cornovaria was originally just a name for the Mystic Isle the story was placed, but I took it a step further by adding some very corn-y puns into the names of characters and locations. See if you can spot some in this very MOC.

-Originally Nordoric and Tristain were not going to show up until much further down the road of the story. I couldn't resist, and they fitted in with Cornovaria Chronicles quite nicely without affecting their own background stories.

+1 for waves and minifig posing. As for the sideways rocks, while you did put them in here sideways(or flat), there is not really any texture to them. I'd like to see you use them more extensively and use them to add texture and realism to the build for credit.

Nice MOC and good story too!

+1 for Geography: oceans

I agree with the others on the sideways rocks

Need to think about the waves and minifig posing ones a bit… Not sure if I'm looking for more there or not yet.
