Hi Sparkart - that is the next step. The inside is hollow and in the dark areas on the sides just below the top, there are trans-color plates for light to show through. I figure if I can isolate those areas and put some blue light behind the engines it would top it off.

Thank you both - this was a challenge (for me) to get the shape right. Angles like this aren't something I've honed my skills on with LEGO before - this was definitely a learning experience.

I built this for my love and interest of the RTS Game Homeworld. Check out my flickr album for comparison shots in-game vs. this model. Stats: Five months design, two months to source and build, just under 11,000 pieces, 57 inches (L), 15 inches (W)... Right on cousin!

Definitely an awesome build! When I built mine it ended up being cheaper than I expected - even with a modified interior. I wanted it to be a bit sturdier as I seemed to handle this a lot just to get it on its legs before putting the top on.

Unfortunately HJR-Holland is correct and I agree that the "Update" pages are probably not read often. However, if I were to do this again I'd probably do it differently. Great experience regardless and in the spirit of MOC-ing, the next one I'm working on is Star Trek related, uncertain if I'd send that to "Ideas" though. I'll definitely be posting it here for feedback as this community has been awesome when it comes to the Landspeeder - thank you all!

A few more updates: with LEGO further "defining" their "Ideas" rule set on Feb. 13th (after I posted Feb. 2nd about an update I made to the model), I felt the need to adjust my open engine a bit using "uncut" tubing. NOTE: this is a promoted practice by LEGO in step 15 of Architecture set 21003 (Seattle Space Needle). I also added some goodies to appeal to a broader audience (but really more for me). Let me know your thoughts... I'd say this about wraps it up but that might be lying... All, Thanks for the comments and support, greatly appreciated. Hoping for 10K at this point, not even thinking about the review right now. As Lego told Cavegod and Robianco eluded to, projects that would be "licensed" have a harder time making the review. I guess I can be positive in that at my 1K comment from Lego "green lighted" me to continue growing in support and that there were no known licensing conflicts or issues at this point. Regardless if this makes it or not, I'll still have my UCS Landspeeder.

As promised, the windscreen and engine updates. NOTE: Thank you to Artizan and TWB for reference pieces: Windscreen Ver 1 - I like that it almost looks like a solid piece but this would have to be cut from the top toward the back at an angle to be similar to the real deal. This would be a finished product if I decide to use it (but leaning toward a new prototype - Ver II below): Lego Star Wars UCS X34 Landspeeder by aaron.fiskum, on Flickr Lego Star Wars UCS X34 Landspeeder by aaron.fiskum, on Flickr Lego Star Wars UCS X34 Landspeeder by aaron.fiskum, on Flickr Lego Star Wars UCS X34 Landspeeder by aaron.fiskum, on Flickr Windscreen Ver 2 (prototype) - let's assume for a moment that all clear slopes are Trans-Black and that there is a full row of 1 x 2 Trans-Black tile on the top of each piece of the shield. I believe I'm going this route as the shape is just about dead on (with the exception of a fine curve toward the back). Remaining pieces are on the way to finish this. Depending on feedback here will determine what my update will be on ideas: Lego Star Wars UCS X34 Landspeeder by aaron.fiskum, on Flickr Lego Star Wars UCS X34 Landspeeder by aaron.fiskum, on Flickr Lego Star Wars UCS X34 Landspeeder by aaron.fiskum, on Flickr Lego Star Wars UCS X34 Landspeeder by aaron.fiskum, on Flickr Lego Star Wars UCS X34 Landspeeder by aaron.fiskum, on Flickr Lego Star Wars UCS X34 Landspeeder by aaron.fiskum, on Flickr

Gaut - good call on the SNOT arch - I did toy with this idea a little in LDD and will revisit again - I have much to learn.

All thank you for the feedback. I've posted some updates to the project if you're curious. A new windscreen will be coming next week. No doubt the most criticized part of the model - I have two options that I hope the public will like: Updated Grille Near Vents and Front: Updated Grille - Side by aaron.fiskum, on Flickr Updated Grille - Front by aaron.fiskum, on Flickr Updated Circuit Panel and Cockpit - enlarged and closer to the windscreen with cockpit reshaping up front to accommodate a new windscreen: Updated Cockpit and Circuit Panel by aaron.fiskum, on Flickr Minor Update to Open Engine (added tubing/wire - will revisit): Updated Open Engine by aaron.fiskum, on Flickr Updated Open Engine by aaron.fiskum, on Flickr

Artizan - still awaiting new pieces but I did change the very front of the cockpit just a tad (where the three windshields meet the dark red ) for what I'd consider a better look. Once the other windshield options arrive I'll try variations and post for feedback. By the way, just supported your AOE concept - very nice (and followed). Everyone, thank you for your comments and feedback - much appreciated!
