  1. I have released a new v1.3 of Pimp up my Lamborghini with some minor upgrades! New features: Revised building instructions with part highlighting and continuous step numbers and some improvements for ease of use Using new printed parts in instructions and renderings Added 2 half pins next to center diff to allow free run when wheels are detached (step 34) Reinforced gearbox indexer with reduced friction for shifting (steps 40, 46, 62) Reinforced gear stepper (step 64, 116, 171) Smoother door mechanism by using non-friction pins and axles (steps 189, 192, 193, 203, 206, 435, 456)
  2. Has been released today on https://rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-198397/jb70/42172-pimp-up-my-mclaren
  3. And here is my next release Pimp up my McLaren v0.5: Digital model: https://bricksafe.com/files/jb70/42172-pimp-up-my-mclaren/history/v0.5/42172 - Pimp up my McLaren.mpd Building Instructions: https://bricksafe.com/files/jb70/42172-pimp-up-my-mclaren/history/v0.5/42172 - Pimp up my McLaren_Book1.pdf https://bricksafe.com/files/jb70/42172-pimp-up-my-mclaren/history/v0.5/42172 - Pimp up my McLaren_Book2.pdf New features: I improved the shifting process by replacing the universal joints with strong CV joints between paddle shifter and gearbox. Now it works very smooth without any backlash. And I improved the door mechanism by replacing most of the involved friction pins with non friction pins or axles. I added some reinforcements to the main door hinge and the lock which catches the closing door and holds it in place. Now the door opens easy and precise, keeps well in opened position, is more stable (less wabbly) and the closing door will always be safely catched in place. Next steps: I will add some final renderings to the building instructions, create part list and publish v1.0 on https://rebrickable.com/users/jb70/mocs/ soon.
  4. The digital model of the original set has been updated. All new parts are now available and included.
  5. @jbuccino Thank you for reviewing! I will fix these issues with the next release.
  6. I made some more improvements on the gearbox and DNR section with v0.4: optimized bearing of axles in gearbox and DNR section to reduce friction changed gear ratio in main drive shaft between rear axle and DNR section from 20/12 * 12/20 to 16/16 * 16/16 This results in the same total gear ratio as v0.3, but less velocity and more torque on the clutch to get the clutch engaged when the gearbox blocks. That happens sometimes, if you change gears via HOG switch under load when the car is moving fast. Changing gears via paddles seem to be more precise (or just slower) so that I do not see the gearbox blocking. some color optimizations some improvements on the building instructions Now I am satisfied with the gearbox. It works as fine and smooth as it used to be for a pimped up supercar. The new gearbox elements 3584 and 4159 offer a complete new gearbox design with a true 7-gear or 8-gear sequential gearbox compared to the previous supercars (2 gearboxes with 4-gear plus 2-gear combined). This comes much more close to real car's design of a gearbox. Here are the files: https://bricksafe.com/files/jb70/42172-pimp-up-my-mclaren/history/v0.4/42172 - Pimp up my McLaren_Book1.pdf https://bricksafe.com/files/jb70/42172-pimp-up-my-mclaren/history/v0.4/42172 - Pimp up my McLaren_Book2.pdf https://bricksafe.com/files/jb70/42172-pimp-up-my-mclaren/history/v0.4/42172 - Pimp up my McLaren.mpd
  7. Yes, here it is: https://rebrickable.com/sets/compare/slow/?1-set=42172-1&1-inv=231259&1-user_list=&2-set=&2-user_list=402539
  8. And here we have: A pimped up gearbox! Optimized 1st gear by omitting 2 gear meshes replaced by a direct connection Optimized housing with improved stiffness reducing friction Geared up by factor 4.3 (pistons move much faster, but still fluently) Replaced the red rubber band by a stiffer white rubber band to improve proper positioning of the gear stepper Simple, but efficient Gear Block between 7th and 1st gear (2 Half Bushes block the gear shifter fork to move in neutral gear), Neutral can still be selected by DNR switch. Here you see the original gearbox layout (1st gear engaged in red, V8 engine in dark red, electric motor in green): And here you see the pimped up gearbox layout (optimized 1st gear engaged in red) and 2 gear meshes swapped (in dark grey and tan sections) to gear up: And last but not least a preview of building instructions including all pimped up MODs so far (HOG steering, HOG shifting, this Gearbox): https://bricksafe.com/files/jb70/42172-pimp-up-my-mclaren/history/v0.3/42172 - Pimp up my McLaren_v0.3.pdf https://bricksafe.com/files/jb70/42172-pimp-up-my-mclaren/history/v0.3/42172 - Pimp up my McLaren.mpd
  9. I will focus mainly on technical improvements, but others may have a look for MODs on the bodywork.
  10. And here we have a gear indicator, that can also be used for HOG shifting. I reversed the order of the paddle shifter, so that pulling the right paddle shifts one gear up, as it was the real car. The mechanics fitted perfectly underneath the gloves compartment of the dashboard and needed only some small adjustments to be fixed. The gear indicator turns 45° per gear switch. https://bricksafe.com/files/jb70/42172-pimp-up-my-mclaren/history/v0.2/42172 - Pimp up my McLaren.mpd
  11. And here we have a pimped up Hand of God (HOG) Steering with Ackermann geometry and extended turning radius! Works smooth and fine! https://bricksafe.com/files/jb70/42172-pimp-up-my-mclaren/history/v0.1/42172 - Pimp up my McLaren.mpd
  12. Box 3 has been finished as original digital model: https://bricksafe.com/files/jb70/42172-pimp-up-my-mclaren/omr/42172 - McLaren P1.mpd This model is complete now, although it contains some mockups for new parts that were not yet available at ldraw.org. They will be added later. But for starting our MODs it will be OK that way. I will now start pimping the front axle by adding Ackerman steering and HOG steering.
  13. Box 2 has been finished as original digital model: https://bricksafe.com/files/jb70/42172-pimp-up-my-mclaren/omr/42172 - McLaren P1.mpd No MODs included so far, but can be used for your own MOD ideas.
  14. Please welcome to share some of your ideas for MODs and Improvements to the new 42172 McLaren P1 1:8 LEGO Supercar! I am just starting to build this model, but I already have some ideas to pimp up this model with: - HOG steering - Paddle shifters in reverse order (pulling right to shift up) - HOG shifting - some improvements on the gearbox (e.g. limiter between neutral and 7th gear) - and some other cool stuff I am building the real model and a digital model in parallel, so you can follow and use the digital model for your investigations and MODs: The original set without MODs has been finished as digital model, so far: https://bricksafe.com/files/jb70/42172-pimp-up-my-mclaren/omr/42172 - McLaren P1.mpd
