Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
badbob001 replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Or how about this idea. The modular set is actually a single 3-in-1 where it has three designs: Common roof + Ground floor Upper floor design 1 Upper floor design 2 So if you want a tall building or all the designs, you need to buy at least three copies and mix/match the designs you like. And in following sets, you can either add on top of the previous ground floor or start a new one with the new set. Most importantly, it should not be an open-back design. -

Other themes like Mindstorms and Mario Brothers have "base" sets. It doesn't necessarily need to have the same base floor for 10 years as they can introduce a new base floor every 3-4 years that is still compatible with the old floors. I would imagine people may want multiple sky scrapers instead of a single super-tall one. Maybe even make it cross-theme like a Ninjago floor, Marvel floor, etc. One issue is that the designers may need to have some restraint on the exterior so it looks uniform as a whole since a rainbow looking tower may not be that appealing to adults. But now the designers can put all their focus on the interior. On rebrickable, I've seen this idea used to incorporate the sitcom sets into the modular line: https://rebrickable.com/mocs/?q=sitcomplex -

With the first modular building, Cafe Corner, modular meant the building itself could be expanded. Maybe it's time for LEGO to re-visit the original meaning of "modular" in the brand's name. LEGO can introduce a sky scraper sub-theme where we initially get several sets that includes the ground floor and some additional floors. Then over time, introduce more floors to be added. So kind of like a sim-tower / apartment / department store management game. -

Along those lines, I wouldn't mind a baby carriage that is pushed by a man. There had been two baby carriages so far but they were shown pushed by women. -
When pressing the wing-flapper, the mechanism rubs against the 2x3 plate next to it on the the tail-ward side and causes the plate to loosen. Happen to anyone else? Not super impressed with the wing-flapping. It basically gives the wings a nudge against gravity and you have to build up a persistent rhythm to get meaningful flaps.

The color scheme makes it looks like an alternative build of the Haunted House (the tall one). Also not a fan of the statues in front of the windows. Maybe push back the whole building to the rear edge of the baseplate and use the additional space in the front to place the statues (in white) in front of the columns? -

Maybe they can take the "modular" approach to the next dimension with at least three base plates that can be combined in multiple ways to form multiple layouts like: Normal corner Inverse corner U-shape Straight etc -

Imagine if we got a library! 1/3 of the piece count would be for the book tiles! -

If we include modular building compatible sets, then Gringotts bank is an inverted corner. -

Ideally, a wall section that fills that hole between the club and the pizzeria. Maybe a mini bar counter there? -

It's a clash as long as the Bugle is still on the shelves. -

@24nolf I can understand why the foosball set needs an explanation since it's very different from the design voted for. But what makes you think LEGO themselves thinks the Jazz Club is a failure and needs explaining? Just based on the existence of the interview and its PR-filtered content? Were there other interviews in the past that were different because of LEGO's own opinion on the set? Now if there is an embargo on reviews until AFTER the set is released, then I would be suspicious. And they better not slash the price down by 30% a few weeks later like some other set. That would be just awesome horrible. -

I'm curious about what you're talking about? Is it this? Is there a "fixed" version? I see this on the US Lego site. I'm more curious about what is on the second floor of the pizzeria and what those four axels are for.
