About Me
I'm an applied mathematician at the University of Canterbury, in Christchurch, New Zealand with a background in Electrical and Mechanical Engineering. I do work in mathematical modelling of biological systems, numerical analysis, scientific computing, and also a little computer vision.
I quickly outgrew standard Lego (or so I thought) and cut my childhood teeth on the Technic universal sets 8055, 8074. I then eventually hit high school and entered a prolonged dark age during which I got my degrees, got married, had children, etc. etc. My wife then brought home one day a large telescopic handler technic (8295) set that she'd somehow acquired on sale very cheaply. Things had really changed since I last looked at Technic! This was followed by the baby bulldozer (8259), cherry picker (8292), large amounts of gears etc. from bricklink, and just recently the remote-controlled excavator (8043).
I'm interested in models that make optimal, efficient, use of lego parts and mechanisms. My next model (which I keep putting off due to no time!) will be a mechanical clock - yes I know that's not very original - but I can't resist the challenge of seeing just how efficient a design I can come up with.
