distortme Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 hmm dunno if there is an ipad app but you could use it for larger MOCs or kits. Didn't think about trying my ipad too! All iPhone apps can be installed on ipad too, then 2x to fill the screen. Something to try tonight me thinks :D Quote
smokebelch Posted January 4, 2011 Author Posted January 4, 2011 Wonderful snow shots fenris! The last one is my fav- truly epic. Im so jealous of the great scenery you had to work with- and share your frustration you didn't have longer to take more shots, but you got some great photos from the time you had though. Nice shot with the iPod distorteme- have a play round, I always find that a longer exposure gives some nice results depending on your camera having changeable settings. Maybe try a lower angle to shoot from as well, gives the figs a better sense of scale. All the apps can be used on the iPad as well, ive been playing round with mine for lighting, but its a bit bigger and heavier so not quite as useful for lego shots. Good for vehicles and larger toys though, but to be honest not found it as good as the trusty old iPod touch Quote
CommanderFox Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 Wonderful shot Smoky and Fenris! You guys are incredible with you photographic skills! Very nice lighting distortme! CF Quote

The iphone/ipod can light up large objects but I think the ipad would be easier. For example, here is the biggest Transformer toy, Fortress Maximus. He stands at about 53.3cm. Quote
smokebelch Posted January 4, 2011 Author Posted January 4, 2011 Thats pretty cool Solscud- nice to see some results with the pad. Bit off topic I know but relevant in terms of lighting tips - Heres one of my favourite shots- Ashley Wood's Bertie, round 14in tall and just lit with my iPod touch on a slow exposure. Figure is just stood in front on my living room wall- no post processing done on this one, red light from the torch app. 'If Found Return To Hell' by smokebelch, on Flickr Quote
KimT Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 That's amazing, I never knew such could be achieved. Perhaps I could persuade you to do an article on lego photography for our blog? That is, when you're done judging? Quote

That is, when you're done judging? Heheh yeah its been proving a lot harder than I thought it'd be to judge the photo comp Me and fenris have a plan in motion the try and narrow down our choices to a top 3... Its so tough, so many great entries And yeah I'd be happy to do an article for the blog, as I've said before im really a low-tech amateur photographer and be glad to offer any tips I can to help people out with thier shots. You can get some great results with some fairly simple set-ups, you really don't need expensive equipment etc.. Quote

Oh ok- I really need to play round with mine more for lighting stuff. Really want to try lighting some larger ships... Trouble is most of my sets are broken down at the moment- I need to get building Quote
distortme Posted January 5, 2011 Posted January 5, 2011 If I hadnt got 10 pounds of loose bricks to sort in the post today, I'd give it a go :) But just too much to sort tonight :D Quote
Solscud007 Posted January 5, 2011 Posted January 5, 2011 (edited) Nothing to get worked up about. got impatient with lighting but wanted to show off some figs I legoed. Mandalorian BP makes for a nice Jango as people have mentioned. Here is my attempt at the CW Deathwatch leader Pre Visla. I know he has a more samurai sword hilt and grip but I dont like the idea of simply painting a ninja/samurai blade black. It is technically a light saber in the cartoon. So here is a light saber with black blade. Modified my R2D2 with rotating head. tried making capes with scrapbook paper. (the orange one) Edited January 5, 2011 by Solscud007 Quote
Igoran Posted January 5, 2011 Posted January 5, 2011 (edited) Fine photo. I am enamoured of it. The others too are very good! Edited January 5, 2011 by Igoran Quote

KimT Posted January 5, 2011 Posted January 5, 2011 Solscud where did you get that cape for Pre Visla? Quote
Brickdoctor Posted January 5, 2011 Posted January 5, 2011 Solscud where did you get that cape for Pre Visla? He said he used paper for the Sandtrooper pauldron; I assume he did the same here. Nice job, Solscud! Quote
Solscud007 Posted January 5, 2011 Posted January 5, 2011 He said he used paper for the Sandtrooper pauldron; I assume he did the same here. Nice job, Solscud! you are correct. I scanned my 8097 Slave 1 Boba Fett cape, traced the cape in photoshop, then printed it out on a dark blue piece of scrapbook paper. it has a slight texture to it but the paperweight is nice and sturdy. KingDom Posted January 5, 2011 Posted January 5, 2011 Nice techniques on your custom figures. I think I might have a go at that... when I manage to get my hands on one of those battlepacks. Quote

Churchill Posted January 5, 2011 Posted January 5, 2011 Great shots! How does the rotating R2 head work? Has it been posted before? If so, I guess I missed it. I'd like to give it a go. Quote

R5-N2 Posted January 5, 2011 Posted January 5, 2011 (edited) Modified my R2D2 with rotating head. Really cool idea... How does it work ? Edited January 5, 2011 by R5-N2 Quote
Solscud007 Posted January 5, 2011 Posted January 5, 2011 (edited) Really cool idea... How does it work ? Yep here i just this posted in custom figs http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=50467 That's smart. I'll have to try that for myself. KimT, the hardest part is cutting out the neck post holes and the small fold hole. Luckily I have a craft paper punch. It looks like a tool punch but has an interchangeable tip and cuts holes rather than makes a impression. It comes with three tips. the large and medium are perfect sized for the capes. I will post a pic in the custom fig section and link it to here. Edited January 5, 2011 by Solscud007 Quote
Solscud007 Posted January 5, 2011 Posted January 5, 2011 KimT and others. here is what I used to cut the holes in the paper capes. Well I didnt really used paper, more like cardstock. http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=50468 Quote
