I love Lego Elves.

What disappoints me is that the men have the same haircuts.

In last year's Elves sets, each of the girls got a cape, but Farran did not. So I figured he would get one this year, but still nothing. I wonder why Lego does that.

It's too bad that LEGO has a tendency to neglect a gender in their themes. Sure, the Elves is going to be overall more directed females, but this theme has an opportunity to pull in both male and females with the fantasy theme and story lines involving dragons. I'm sure Lego realizes this already with the inclusion of male characters, and since they've even made sets lacking female Elves with Farran's Crystal Hallow and School of dragons. Regardless, even if no males were interested at all in the sets, female buyers will still want the male minifigures/dolls to have personalities, and varied physical characteristics. It wasn't much of a surprise that the sole male elf hairstyle was used for Johnny, because he was a minor character in both the sets and the minimovie. Tidus, however, is looking to be a more important character to the story, so a new hairstyle for him would have been great.

As for the lack of accessories for Farran, that was also not surprising as he doesn't appear in neither of the two largest summer sets of this and last year. The question then is why couldn't he be included? He isn't a random supporting character, he's one of the five main characters. For the price of the ~$100 castle sets, I think it would have been fair and worthwhile to include Farran and his cloak/cape.

Yes It's too bad. It's 100% girls or 100% boys.

But I think LEGO Elves is more unisex now with dragons and colors less girly.

For Farran I created my own cape

I agree Iria, no reason why Farran couldn't have been included in the castle set. Would have been nice considering he's there at the castle in the book.

I just used a green cape from one of my LOTR/Hobbit sets for Farran.

Some person from Youtube spotted the new sets in a store, in (what I think they said is) Legoland? And there's new merch!!! Keychains of Azari, Aira, Naida and Emily in their new outfits. No Farran though. I guess this confirms it, Lego hates Farran. Why do you hate Farran, Lego? .... There's also something called a "carrying case" the purpose of which I can't grasp (it's for carrying something, I suppose ;D)

Ragana actually has a proper house with a sitting room,kitchen/lab, a bed room and a bathroom! I appreciate that. Finally an elf with proper sanitation and a hard working interior designer. Also a big wonking portrait of herself over the sofa- I think I like Ragana.

Thanks for your video. Yes I think so, It's not in Lego Store but in Legoland.

And Yes LEGO hates the boys in licenses for girls.

I'm sorry, Johnny, Tidus and Farran. You should wear a dress.

It's a pity that. Why do toys have to be so binary. I think this theme is far more neutral than the Friends and Disney themes, and it seems sad that by underplaying male characters it misses out on the market share of boys who are less interested in combat and more in character-driven sets.

Haha, agreed. It's kind of odd how the "evil" characters' lairs seem even more livable than the good characters'! It's the same in Nexo Knights — Jestro's Volcano Lair has a bedroom, bathroom, and kitchen! In that case, I imagine it's partly to reflect how he's a sensitive guy who deep down just wants to be happy, and wouldn't be evil at all if it weren't for the Book of Monsters' tricks. But it also probably has a lot to do with price point. Both the Shadow Castle and the Volcano Lair are the biggest sets in their respective themes to date (the Shadow Castle is $100, $20 more than the Sky Castle, and the Volcano Lair is $120, $20 more than the Fortrex).

Granted, the Sky Castle itself wasn't all that bad in terms of these kinds of details. The main thing it was missing was a bedroom. Maybe Skyra just sleeps on her throne. That'd explain why she's so grouchy!

I totally agree with you !

And many boys like Lego Elves.

Also the sets 2016 are more unisex than sets 2015.

Well I want an earth elf on my keychain. :/ or at least a cute dragon baby. Maybe they'll eventually make one with Farran or at least Sira.

It's dissapointing that Lego chooses to market their sets to one gender in particular, though they've made some improvements in that regard. Maybe the next year could bring a more "livable" treehouse, or a fire themed building that is less ugly than the bakery, or the mysterious missing airship :D

I like the shadow castle more than Skyra's castle. It seems less of a gimmick and has more depth to it. Skyra's castle was just so disappointing from behind. Hey, I liked the bakery. Don't diss the bakery! :D

I always wonder where these bad guys shop for clothes and home furnishings. They can't be that big of a market, and yet they always seem to get the coolest stuff.

It looks like the Shadow Castle has a dungeon, maybe with a trap door? And then there is a bridge, possibly also with a play feature and then the main house. Those goody two shoes elves aren't going to get to that egg easily!

Yup. Off the top of my head, the Shadow Castle features:

  • Throne room with throne, chandelier, trapdoor, and some sort of structure in the tree branches—possibly a bed for Ragana's cat?
  • Dungeon with removable wall.
  • Collapsing bridge from the throne room to the castle, with a small river and stalagmites below.
  • Main entrance and moving bridge—opening the main doors retracts the bridge INTO the castle, a freaking awesome feature. The ground floor also features a couch and portrait of Ragana.
  • Bedroom with side table. There's a hidden compartment under the bed where a map and letter are stored.
  • Treetop/balcony with cauldron.
  • Washroom with sink, large mirror, and hand mirror.
  • Rooftop with dragon egg and dragon statue.

All in all, it's an amazing set! I hope the Elves theme continues to get bigger and better in the years ahead. If this is what they can achieve at a $100 price point, I can only imagine what a $120 set could offer...

I'm just getting into Elves and I'm pretty excited for the new sets. That is, as soon as I get caught up with the current sets! I was looking around the usual places and couldn't find a single Elves MOC! Are Elves MOCs not a thing?

Iria made some. They're very cool, check them out! http://www.eurobrick...howtopic=119820

Some people on reddit have made some, too: https://goo.gl/SrjDDB https://goo.gl/P89xGb https://goo.gl/vuVFlF I remember I've also seen at least two different LOTR-ified versions of Naida's ship, but I can't seem to find them...

Yes, there are some Elves MOCs here in the Flickr group: https://www.flickr.com/groups/legoelves/

I think the sets are so well designed for the genre, that people are building them per instructions and really enjoying them that way.

Since it's fantasy, it may be different than other themes, of which people want to tweak (Mod/MOC) to fit their particular City or historical reference. Hopefully new storyline will give builders more 'material' to re-create!

Secret market place review, I love that book...

http://www.brothers-...iew/#more-67739

That book is great. I wonder... do you think the "interior pages" (1x2 tile with the green dragon print) are the same in all the summer sets that feature that book? Or is it possible that they feature alternate prints with some of the other dragons?

That would be a very nice treat. It's a little unfortunate that the tile is white instead of tan, though.

I particularly like in Ragana's castle, its witch objects!

Dungeon keep, crystal ball, cauldron, potion, and the colors are beautiful for a witch.

It's a very scary theme for "girls" and original for LEGO. I Love It !

I've built some Elves MOCs on LDD, but I've only really shared them in Facebook groups and the Lego.com galleries. Here's my Elvendale Arboretum. And here's a horse-drawn carriage for the Elves. I'd like to put some of these together in real life sometime, but no idea if I'll ever get around to it.
