I just wanted to say that today our packaged arived from China with the most wonderful set of building toys. My son loves them. It is a pirate building block set, a very large boat. My son says it is called the black pearl from the pirate movie. The parts in the set fit together with his lego brand bricks but this set we bought is not lego brand. What is the difference? Here is the address to the bulding toys http://www.liangdianup.com/buildingblocks_1.htm and the company's main website page is www.lducompany.com

There is no place to post a review on thier website but if there was I would surely give these guys a 5 star :)

We have indeed seen these boats before, i myself own eight of them, different variations...

here is the topic i posted some time ago on the boats, the black pearl is the one with red sails, it has nothing to do with the movie unfortunately, and as for the difference between products follow the link and read all about it, BTW, as its from china and they have loose standards on lead in paint, to be on the safe side DO NOT LET HIM PUT IT IN HIS MOUTH AND EAT IT! i don't know how to get it checked for its contents, but i have not had a problem as of yet...

btw i am hoping your not from thier company trying to get us to convert... you would be having a very hard time doing so!

Feel free to write a review here Yunfang. We allow the occasional review of non LEGO products to give user an insight into what the competition brands are offering.

we tend to give people the benefit of the doubt, and we know this product rather well... my first reaction was to give this message the same response as you, however we have had other comments like this from people that chance to come across the forum, however they hardly have such great product placement skills. :pir-grin:

as Phes has said, we do often like to hear about the competition, no better source to hear about it than the competition itself, who knows they may even be able to help us in our time of shako shortage!, given they will not be as edible as the Lego version...

if it truly is just spam however, i am sure members here are not likely to fall for its cheap attempt, and those that do not frequent the sight like parents whom come across it buy chance should be deterred enough by my health warning :pir-wink:, if they try numerous spams they will find the chamber quicker than a speeding bullet and that by admins miraculous doings their posts changed into an ad against what they want promoted on our humble site...

justice will be done where required, be assured of that, we be pirates! :pir-skull: , do not be thinking we give much away for free!!!

Um, this is spam, guys.

Chris

As long as your are not a moderator, I'm considering a post like yours as spam Chris. Besides, and admin (Mister Phes) already posted before you in this thread which mean implicitly that this thread is approved. Thanks for keeping this in mind for the future!

Hmmm... I've looked into the clone version of the BSB, but I was allways detered by the fact that most here say that they don't have the holding power of Lego Bricks (probably true, scince the Lego Mchinism is copyrighted.) Do you own any Lego Bricks to compare their holding power?

Hey, I'm back again :pir-cry_happy:

Mister Phes has said that I could post a review here but I am not sure that all people would like to here about the bricks that we bought because they are not true lego. But they do work well and fit together strong as the others.

My son would like some star wars bricks but that ldu company does not have star wars things. Are there copies of star wars bricks out there?

These little block heads are fun :pir-tongue:

How do I get a picture to go with my screen name here? Can I make one and upload it?

 I'm very angry to see that clone version of Lego bricks from China. I've tried to open this page: http://www.liangdianup.com/buildingblocks_1.htm. And I saw one of the set(9609,9821,9602)just changed the logo of lego and place their company logo. And the set 307's design is almost the same from BSB. Not just set307, the others designs were copied from the Lego company. The picture of 9821 in this page is different from this9821_200.jpg. They are fake Lego sets. So, don't buy them any more! Edited by Captain Cavinano

I'm not the type of persons who keeps people from buying sets produced by clone brands. If someone really likes buying a clone brand set, they should do. And I can understand that people buy clone brand pirate sets since LEGO have not produced pirate sets for a while, so it is their fault when people spend money on clone brands. However, the link really made me furious. I had a look at the sets and only the logo has been changed. LEGO products were copied 1:1 without making any changes to cloak their origin. That's going too far!

If I say you can post a review about a non LEGO product then it doesn't matter what others think. Go ahead and share your review with us!

But this is the wrong forum to be asking about Star Wars...

The Shifty/Enlighten/Brick Brand is comprised mostly of clone bootleg copies of LEGO sets. I've acquired a few, and reviewed them elsewhere, and reprinted here. Those really curious about Clone brands should check out http://bloks.hyperboards.com/index.php .

Clones of Western Set 6790 Bandit with Gun

I purchased a few of these for a dollar each at a store here at a variety store here in chicago

It has all three brands (enlighten, brick, and shifty) on the packaging and/or instructions. I seem to have misplaced the box, but it's a copy of this set.

http://www.brickset.com/detail.aspx?Set=6790-1

It's a pretty close copy, and the box and instructions are obviously copies of the LEGO set with a few photoshopped differences. The brick quality is a bit better than the enlighten sets I bought 2 years ago probably a bit under MB.

The set was not a perfect copy. Here are some of the differences...

-black hat instead of brown

-no bandana

-rifles are a lighter shade of grey. and have deeper indentions on the stock than the lego versions

-sign says "shifty" instead of "keep out"

-different minifig head

-instead of a revolver, the set has a chrome colored pirate flintlock pistol

-Strangely, the torso is black, with a one color (light yellow) copy of this aquasharks torso pattern.

http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemPic.asp?P=973pb75c01

I bought 5 of these sets, and they all contained this torso piece, I can't figure out what happened. I guess they just had a bunch of extra aquashark torsos so they put them in every set.

I was buying it mostly for the cowboy hats, guns, and cowboy torsos, so not having the torsos or revolvers was kind of a letdown. Still, the black hats and rifles are neat, and the chrome flintlock pistols will look great with my pirates. Also, I now have plenty of dynamite, and lots of nice black wagon wheels.

As for the torsos, I still haven't decided wether to keep, trade, or brasso off the aquasharks logo.

Clones of Pirate sets 1733 and 1747

These two sets are very close copies of LEGO sets1733 and 1747. mentioned in the subtitle. You can see the sets they copy here.

http://brickset.com/search.aspx?Page=1&Theme=Pirates

Points of note:

-Like all of this brand the colors and quality are fine for play, but not good enough to match LEGO. The pieces tend to be less glossy, and more translucent.

-the box art is strait from the LEGO version. You can tell by the lower quality printing on the minifig torsos and heads that come in the set that the minifigs on the box are LEGO minifigs.

-Unlike many simlilar sets, even the minifig faces are even copied fairly accurately from the LEGO versions.

-Set 9603 "Shipwreck..." differs from the LEGO version only in it's red oar rather than brown, brown bandana cap (a pretty neat piece) rather than a blue one, and chrome colored cutlass rather than grey.

-Set 9821 "Treasure..." differs from the LEGO version only in that it has a trans-red coffee cup instead of a gold goblet, chrome cutlass, and it has the same one color (yellow on black) printed aquasharks torso that came with the western set I previously purchased.(very wierd)

Final Thoughts.

The charm of "Enlingten/Shifty/Brick sets is -for me- related mostly to minifig pieces and accessories that are unavailable from LEGO or difficult to find. The cheap prices makes it worthwhile to take the accessories, and sometimes the minifigs, and toss the rest of the bricks in the "clone" pile. I already have alot of pirates, so there wasn't much to interest me in these sets. The brown bandana, trans-red cup and chrome cutlasses are nice, but that's really about it. Even the pirate pistol is the regular brown color, and the reappearance of the aquasharks torso is disapointing.

If you missed pirates the first time around these may be just the thing for you, if not you may not want to bother.

Actually the box pictures look the same, with just the logo changed. However the sets themselves are often slightly different from what we see on the box (= slightly different from Lego sets they copy). Colours of many bricks don't match those we see on the box or in the instructions, and minifigs often look completely different.

It all depends on which set you get. They are all pretty shameless copies, and all are very close to LEGO packaging, but there are three variations in that I've seen

1) exactly like LEGO with logos changed. These products often have significant differences in packaging and contents.

2) Lego looking packages with pictures of the actual product. This has been more common recently. Chrome pistols, cutlasses, lower quality printed torsos, color differences and others ususally give this away. The result is usually that what you see is what you get.

3) exactly like LEGO with Logos changed and some additional photo shopping. Usually it's pretty obvious when you look close. The most common is photoshoping headgear or weaponry to match what comes in the box. The forestman's Catapault set shows this as the cloaked headgear has been photoshopped into pirate head scarfs.
