Captain Green Hair Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 I'm not really sold on the kraken/sea monster angle, but I'm sure LEGO will go that way anyway. Still, I hope we see some of the more realistic dangers that could be confronted as well. We don't always need "epic" monsters, real life can outscare the best of them with a little imagination, and isn't that what it's really all about? Aren't pirates supposed to be the threat? Quote
Shadows Posted July 17, 2008 Author Posted July 17, 2008 Aren't pirates supposed to be the threat? Only the ones in bikinis. As far as threats, I figure we'll be lucky to start with pirates vs ninjas soldiers/Imperials, and probably no third faction like the old Islanders. I just hope they fill out the sets a bit by adding some natural hazards and not a lot of silly fantasy elements. It's probably a hopeless cause there, as fantasy sells and it's made the current castle line work out nicely, but I would actually be annoyed if it was all massive sea-monsters or skeleton crews. I'm not, however, opposed to small amounts of those things, if they really think it's necessary. Quote
Antsa Antero Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 What I'd like to see, is definetely something new: A Ship that actually is BIG and still floats. Maybe with big and deep base parts and using weight-pieces that could be possible :) Quote
Sandy Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 What I'd like to see, is definetely something new: A Ship that actually is BIG and still floats. Maybe with big and deep base parts and using weight-pieces that could be possible :) I'm no engineer, but I think the basic thing with having a floating ship is that it still needs to be flat-bottomed to stand on floor. You can't expect anybody to build it on water, or on it's side, can you? ;D So the structure can't be very realistic, with a deep keel or anything like that. The only way I see that it could both float and stand on floor is that the ship is really, really wide. But then again, as I said, I'm no engineer. Quote
Antsa Antero Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 (edited) Yes that's true. Maybe It could have four support stands to keep it up when on ground.. I think that would look okay as well. But then again, that ship would be more like decoration than for playing, except when in water Edited July 17, 2008 by Antsa Antero Quote
Pencoin Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 Actually, those Navy Ship's masts were painted to be white, so it could be possible that LEGO masts are painted. No sure how I feel about that, as most historical themes (Vikings, Castle, etc.) involves fighting monsters. I think a Hydra would be better in a Grecian historical theme, possibly with Odyesseus and his ship. i meant a 'proper' hydra Quote
MagPiesRUs Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 Some great ideas guys, I especially like the suggestion of wigs and attachable cockades. Mitre Cap Mitre caps were used by the Grenadiers of many nations during the 18th and 19th Centuries, and would add some more variety to the Imperial armies. If done right, they would also work well for priests, and even a Khepresh for an Ancient Egyptian theme. Quote
Capt. Bluebeard Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 New pieces: 1) Telescope 2) A cutlass holster! 3) Bayonet Pieces that should return: 1) Cannon 2) Rag-hat (in red, blue, green, black and white) 3) Pistols and muskets 4) Epaulette (maybe they could make them in gold for the Admiral and the Commodore ) 5) Shako 6) Tricorne and Bicorne 7) Cloth sails (Not plastic! ) 8) The old masts (in brown) 9) The old hull pieces 10) The old pirate flag Possible factions (other than the pirates ): 1) Imperial Armada (they didn't really get a chance to shine) 2) Islanders 3) Redcoats AKA Imperial Guard 4) Ninjas! (j/k) Bluebeard, out- Quote
Pencoin Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 Yeah a ninjas vs pirates thing would be cool to tie in with LEGO universe Quote
BlueBard Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 Well, I think some basic needs for LEGO Pirate Fans would be: 1.Telescope 2. Cutlass 3. White wigs!!! 4. Bayonets 5. Conquistadores & Aztecs! 6. New LARGE ships Quote
indyj11 Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 I can say now that other than the original cannons, I definitely want the original cutlasses and not the lame new scimitar type swords. I mean, maybe they can have some scimitars thrown in to add variety, but they better keep with the old style cutlass because it was the best pirate sword ever. I mean, if they really want to, they can make it a chrome or something, but just keep the traditional design the same and not get all fancy, because the simple original was the best. Picture courtesy of Bricklink.com. I'd also like to back the idea of the wigs because you could put them on high ranking officers when they're not wearing their hats or you can create a new class of royalty with them, like governer Swan in Pirates of the Caribbean or Beckett, not them exactly considering Lego doesn't have the rights to POTC, but that idea. Norrington Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 We don't need Hydras and other crap for pirates! Pit them against the Empire, or even better, put them up against nature! Attacking a Nautilus-like Satelitte Ship in the 20k ride at Disneyworld Captain Nemo being mauled: ^ Now, that would suck! Quote

I totally agree! I really hated how they tried to introduce mediterranean and nordic mythology in POTC What does a kraken in the caribbean? Please! Quote
Admiral Blockbeard Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 I would like to see some thing completely new... pieces that fit over a mini fig head, as in around its circumference like an eyepatch and hair pieces that can sit below the hat, this can create great diversity in the range of figs... but that is not likely to happen so... i want to see the return of a compass, sextant, and the introduction of rum bottles!!! I think the below hat hair peices and eye patches would be really to bulky to be feasable. Now, if LEGO wants the line to be fanciful, don't do sea monsters! DO underwater steam-punk pirates in the style of Captain Nemo and the Nautilus: ^ That is so cool "Colission speed!" "We'll have to rise and fight it on the surface!" Or better yet, get a Disney liscence to do a 20k line with the awsome Harper Goff suits and Nautilus. I swear I wouldn't care if the Nautilus is all one peice. It would just make it easier to put in a working motor+ Propellor then seal it. Quote
Cardinal Brick Posted July 20, 2008 Posted July 20, 2008 I’d like to see a musket that didn’t expand at the end and become a blunderbuss. Quote

Wes Posted July 28, 2008 Posted July 28, 2008 (edited) I would like to see a return to the traditional masts. 2537 Boat Mast Section Middle 13 2/3 H, (Newer version With Bottom Connector Prong) 2538 Boat Mast Section Top 16 H with 4 stud holes at bottom (With Bottom nipples) 2539 Boat Mast Platform 2541 Boat Mast Rigging Long 27 x 5 4844 Boat Mast Section Base 4 x 4 x 9 6057 Boat Mast Rigging Short 16 x 5 6067 Boat Mast Section Base 4 x 4 x 1 2/3 30047 Boat Mast Section Top 11 2/3 H with 6 studs at top I would also like to echo the requests for cloth sails, boat hull pieces, and those nifty working compasses. Side note: Am I correct in hypothesizing that the very useful part 2540 (Plate Modified 1 x 2 with Handle on Side) was introduced in the legendary 6285 Black Seas Barracuda set? Yes, 6285 Black Seas Barracuda and 6274 Caribbean Clipper were the first two sets featuring that piece in 1989. Quote
Fluyt Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 I would really like to see a minifigscale globe and more map designs. Also different sail shapes, scale and compass (the kind you draw circles with) would be nice. Quote

Dreamweb Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 (edited) Cloth sails printed on both sides, just like in the first ships! No paper sails and no sails white on one side, like in the late ships of the original Pirate theme. Unless they're white on both sides - in that case I'm all for it! Edited August 12, 2008 by Dreamweb Quote
blueandwhite Posted August 12, 2008 Posted August 12, 2008 I'd actually like some white/offwhite canvas sails instead of the older striped varriants. The striped sails look ok on smaller ships, but when it comes to large MOCs they tend to look too busy. As I'm a purist and cringe at the thought of making my own sails I'm hoping LEGO will solve this dilema for me. I'm also hoping for dark brown hull pieces. I'm not overly fond of the reddish brown colour but I absolutely love the new dark brown. It actually seems like the perfect colour for a ship's hull. The other thing I'd like to see is a modular port system using technic pins or something similar. I miss the modular castles from the 80s. The idea of combining sets to create something more impressive always struck me as being a good idea for those builders who weren't that into MOCing. Quote
