Excellent Mr Tiber! But don't forget to "vacate" upon your vacation or at least have a well earned rest so you're a bright eyed and bushy tailed Pirate Moderator - eh that doesn't sound right! :-D

Best way I've found is to start from the bottom and work your way up. :P

How would you do a tutorial on how to build ships? Isn't it just a case of get a picture of a ship , tip all your lego into a pile and start making something that looks like whats in the picture.

Which part doesn't sound good? And why?

I said it doesn't sound right which is different than not sounding good. Anyway, I was referring to a Pirate Moderator being "bright eyed and bushy tailed" - that's more like a squirrel or something cute and fury, not a mighty Pirate!

Ah now I see...

Well, I didn't start with the tutorial yet, but until I finished it, these instructions made by RTN LNA (or Kurt Baty) could be useful.

I've got an idea Mr Tiber! When you finish your tutorial create a new thread for it and then we'll turn this thread into the Building Small Ships Tutorial Discussion - how's that sound?

Not bad, not bad at all...

So there will be one thread for the discussion and the tutorial will be posted in the pinned topic Tutorials?

This may sound like a Newbie question but i have always wondered.

When Building Ships such as Planned ships how do you make them to the proper detail.

And i know you may get it all from bricklink but doesnt that take time i meen How do you know what bricks you will need and how much it will come to and how long it will take?

Also do you make your own building instructions?

Thanks *y*

What do mean by planned ships?

Do you mean having an actual ship's plans?

And i know you may get it all from bricklink but doesnt that take time i meen How do you know what bricks you will need and how much it will come to and how long it will take?

I just build what i can with what bricks i have (whatever the color) :)

and the count the amount of pretty colorful bricks i have so far :-$

and purchase those bricks (if i can afford it) :-/

and get a rough estimate of how many more i'd need :-|

and include that amount in my next BL order :S

and hope i can keep building between BL orders. X-D

Depends on how much money you have,

how much time you want to invest,

how many bricks you have,

how detailed/accurate you want to be.

For instance with my USS Constitution, i figure it's going to be at least 2 years before the ship is completely built.

And i have no idea how much i will have to spend on BL, but so far just for the Constitution i've spent almost $150 on bricks.

but i'm going for super obsessive-compulsive accurately detailed though X-D

Also do you make your own building instructions?

...

NEVER!

Too much work. :-P

That's why i always design my ships in LDD first.

I know which blocks i will be needing and the plans well LDD makes em for me after i am finished.

the design itself is done mostly off the top of my head though ( is this the correct way of saying that? :-P)

I always base my ships loosely on real ships and look a ot at pictures.

I usually have enough bricks to build and do a lot of experimenting on techniqeus. The rest i get of BL, i spend somewhere around of 75 euro's per month right now.

First I do a lot of research on the internet to get an idea what the ship should look like.

Then I start building as much as possible with the right color bricks.

Once I finish a part (e.g. the hull), I order the bricks that I miss and wait until they arrive.

Then this slow process continues. My last ship took 6 months to complete :-D

Earlier in the year, some of you will remember that I had created a large Jungle Adventure Diorama containing Indiana Jones and Adventurer sets.

I'm in the process of doing something similar once again; but this time, I want to create a Pirate Lagoon/Island and Imperial Port. As I don't want this to come out the same as an "Along the Amazon Creation", I could use some tips.

How can I create a Pirate Lagoon that differs from my Jungle Adventure? What would you recommend? I'm considering having two sides to the creation, the port on one side, and the lagoon on the other.

What would you master Pirate builders recommend? Your help is appreciated.

I am no master pirate builder, however I love that adventure diorama, so I would be extremely curious for a pirate themed one! First thing to do to make it more piraty is add beach, either yelllow or tan. I think beach + blue water + jungle behind the beach already brings you very close to a pirate themed background. I am guessing you are going to base it on the 2009 sets, as you seem crazy about them and are lucky enough to own them, so there won't be a need to add all the indian/native/islander like statues, already reducing your amozonian feel. Things you could add include buried treasures, raft building attempts, pirates stranded, 'sunken' ships, reefy rocks, etc, or you could go more into the PTV direction and go for 'cozy' villages being visited, pirates hanging from gallows etc..

Also swapping the crocodiles for sharks would make it a bit more salt watery.

I don't really know how to help you, when I build, I just put bricks together ,and it gives something strange^^ the advice that LKOE gave are nice I think , the MUST HAVE in a pirate diorama like the one you want to make are hidden, buried treasures, a yellow beach, some palm tree, a drunken pirates on the docks, and more piratey things! yay ^^

Thank you both for the great suggestions. I think one of the big differences will be the addition of a sand beach using tan/yellow bricks. I will definately need more palm trees this go around. Some reefy rocks is a really good idea that I had not considered. I also like the gallow idea.

If any of you have any more suggestions, I'd appreciate it.

The xebec has always intrigued me, however i never quite figured out hw to make one. I am open to any sudjestions, I mainly need help with the hull structure, what pieces ect. Here are some pics, and thanks for any help!

I'm thinking i might make the oared variation, similar to the galley, for my barbery corsairs.

It would help if you made the images of the Xebec larger so we can really see what the ship looks like and get a good idea about what you are trying to do.

I never have made a custom hull so I would look at this if you want to use traditional hull pieces:

Hopefully this kind of helps you invision how to make the hull. Once you make the pics larger(if it is possible) then I might have some better suggestions. Good luck.
