WesternOutlaw Posted January 16, 2010 Posted January 16, 2010 Expanded Arena as of 1/17/2009: What started out as a hidden Aztec treasure trove soon found itself rebuilt as the entrance to a a Bull Fighting Arena. My 12th Old Mexico creation, Plaza de Toros introduces the famous sport of bullfighting to the Town with No Name. The signs on the wall have not been photo-shopped, but actual decals from bullfighting signs/artwork with some custom lettering (part of the decals). While this creation is not much more that a wall with door and entrance, it provides some inspiration to building a much larger creation that could serve as the entrance to entire bullfighting arena. NOTE: Bull not included Quote
lightningtiger Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 Si, I like ! Good one again 'The Brickster', can'r wait to see the bull fighting ring - it will be awesome ! Quote
BlueBard Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 Nice job, looks like a very promising beginning! And as spanish let me say: ¡OLÉ! Quote
curtisrlee Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 Si Senorita, Awesome! PS shouldn't this belong in the Pirates forum? Quote
Athos Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 Awww... I was hoping for the ring. Still a nice MOC and I look forward to seeing the arena. Steve Quote
Emperor Claudius Rome Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 Si Senorita, Awesome! PS shouldn't this belong in the Pirates forum? Just because It has a pirate torso, doesn't make it pirates. I can't wait for the rink Brickster! Quote
I Scream Clone Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 You really had me worried on this one. When I read the title all I saw was Plaza de TORSOs! I thought you had created a massacre in the ol mexico town. Looks quite nice, I assume if you were to make a full bullfighting ring it could have torsos everywhere! Quote
curtisrlee Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 Just because It has a pirate torso, doesn't make it pirates.I can't wait for the rink Brickster! I meant the TIME PERIOD! Idiot! Quote
Sir Dillon Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 Well, it's a nice looking wall anyway. I like the brown framing. The little archway on top looks out of place, considering there's nothing else around it. I meant the TIME PERIOD! Idiot! Calm down. Even though you crossed it out, calling someone else an idiot is not acceptable. As far as I can tell, this has nothing to do with the pirate theme, and therefore does not belong in the pirate forum. Rick Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 I thought you were done with Mexico TheBrickster But this is another really nice creation. The big doors really do the trick in making it recognizable as an arena. The minifig also works well again. If TLG would have done this, they would have come up with some nice Lego-ified posters, which is a bit too much to ask to also design for a MOC Quote
Legostein Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 Hello! A great continuation of your popular theme! The brown bricks standing out beneath the tan arches work really well here. Cheers, ~ Christopher Quote
Ras 74 Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 This is just lovely Brickster I like details you do like the wheel standing against the wall. It just add the touch you want in a creation like this. The idea of making a full arena sounds very good! I know there is no point in putting any preassure to you, because you seem to be one step ahead all the time. Maybe if it was frontpaged though I was so looking forward to see the actual bull and the Bullfighter. Edit: And done! Quote

I'm smart enough to see that it was just sarcasm.. (Not saying your stupid! please don't mix that up..) anyway, back on topic. Nice use of the pirate torso, Looks real nice on him Looks like the rink will be a bit big for that building though? Quote
RoryoCox Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 Another great MOC. It looks great with the other buildings. I can't wait to see your next MOC and the arena. Quote
Lorentzen Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 I am really impressed with all of your Mexican MOCs - this one is actually one of my favourites. I love to browse through all of the MOCs, they really have that Mexican/Zorro/Alamo feeling to them. Keep 'em coming Quote
Zorbas Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 Very nice work for once more! You've really got into the mexican spirit TheBrickster. A bull fight MOC sounds great! (Although that I'm not a fan of the real thing.) NOTE: Bull not included This made me laugh because it reminded me of one of those ads on TV. "Buy the mighty vehicle and the tank of the Super Action Figure Man and crash the Super Action Figure Man's Evil Enemy Action Figure!"* *Each action figure sold separately You sure know how the market works. Quote
Emperor Claudius Rome Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 I meant the TIME PERIOD! Idiot! Its more relevant to the western period than the correct period on the Pirate forum. I assume this takes place in the 1830's, as Mexico wasn't independent from Spain until the 1820's. Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted January 18, 2010 Author Posted January 18, 2010 Thank you all for the nice feedback. It's always a pleasure to read the comments re. one's creation. -and special thanks to Ras for taking the time to front-page. I must admit that I was not happy with the final entrance to the arena. It was just lacking those additional details (like an open arena, people, and a bull). With a very limited supply of bricks I didn't use for the village, I created not one wall, but rather three (including the entrance). Not sure if I wanted another arch/tower, I chose rather a custom clock decal I used for my Ghost Train Abandoned Station and the Haunted Clock Tower of Grimwell Manor. The decal has an "old-world-look" that I think looks pretty good. In addition, the new walls utilize the 5x6 wall sections with the flat side facing the inside of the arena (partially covered with an arch), with the opposite side (indented side) facing the outside. This required double-sided decal walls. Here are the four custom "decal bricks" with authentic bullfighting artwork: Hinges between each of the three walls also allow the partial arena to fold straight open. While some of you may question the use of the farm cow as a bull, I did do some research and found this actual bullfighting bull reassuring me that the black and white cow isn't too bad. I must admit that I haven't opened the Medieval Market yet which would have provided a better fighting bull. So here is the new Plaza de Toros that has been expanded to include bleachers, people, a bull, and larger arena: I'll share some additional images to include the front-side tomorrow. Quote
iamded Posted January 18, 2010 Posted January 18, 2010 Woo, it's lookin' very nice now! The pirate parts make for a great matador figure, and (needless to say) the colour scheme looks great and wonderfully fits in with the theme. And since I haven't commented on this before, I must compliment you on your decals, they are very nice indeed. Fantastic job, TheBrickster! ~Peace Quote
Sir Dillon Posted January 18, 2010 Posted January 18, 2010 The update is definitely an improvement. One thing I would change is the colour of the benches to something other than tan. Perhaps dark grey? Quote
Rick Posted January 18, 2010 Posted January 18, 2010 Wow... I'm surprised at how you've managed to capture every important aspect of an arena with a relatively limited (in terms of space) 'interior'. Nice work. Quote
WesternOutlaw Posted January 18, 2010 Author Posted January 18, 2010 Thanks guys! Here's those additional images: Eagle's eye view: The cheering crowd - all of these folks appeared in the other village creations: Side shot: That looks like Johnson Willoughby in the crowd The back (actually the front). I think I need another clock decal: The front side posters: The wall can be straightened: Or even turned inward forming a U-shape: Lastly, a close-up of the entrance: That concludes my visit to the Plaza de Toros. Now I have to work on integrating it into the Mexican Village. EDIT: Expanded one again: Quote
