Superkalle Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 Here you can discuss everything related to the LDD contest Quote
Zerobricks Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 Can you use the alternatives if the bricks arent in LDD? Quote
not-in-use-anymore Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 I'm geussing Super Prices doesn't mean the sets are cheaper. Quote
alienwar9 Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 AHHH!!! you had to limit the bricks! lol, otherwise I'd enter my project in. Oh well, I'll see if I can use parts of it, though I might run out of bricks there even. 1500 is too little :) corner cafe buildings wouldn't be able to be entered even! Just kidding really. Great contest! Hope it brings out some great LDD usage! Quote

We've increased the limit to 2500 bricks. @Zbjl - You can use alternative parts. Anything in Universe Mode can be used. @IndianaJones - Aahhhh. We didn't think anyone would notice Fixed now. Quote
Toa_Of_Justice Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 I just posted an LDD MOC a few minutes ago (Undersea Hauler)...may I please enter that model? -Toa Of Justice Quote
Superkalle Posted June 4, 2010 Author Posted June 4, 2010 I just posted an LDD MOC a few minutes ago (Undersea Hauler)...may I please enter that model?-Toa Of Justice Yes, if that is what you want to compete with. Quote
marcosbessa Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 Yes, if that is what you want to compete with. You mean we only may have one entry in the contest? And can I enter with my Villa Maison that I presented here in February? Quote
Toa_Of_Justice Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 Yes, if that is what you want to compete with. Thank you so much! I will enter now. -Toa Of Justice Quote
Oky Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 Very cool contest, especially now that the piece count limit has been raised! But why have a separate thread for the rules? That's confusing. It would be good if you would either lock the rules topic or merge it into this one. I would prefer the latter. And wouldn't it be much more organized if we had just one entry thread here instead of several ones scattered across the board? I mean, if all LDD MOCs are going to be kept inside this forum, why not the contest entries? So, we can only make one entry for each "class", meaning we have to choose only one theme for each class, right? Quote
prateek Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 So pretty much one entry for me since I don't have a lot of Lego right? Quote
menq Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 ...The MOC has to be between 30 and 2500 bricks. .... and please, no recycling of old creations. I have a 3.000+ pieces MOC designed with LDD and made in real bricks that I made last year. Can I enter that or is that to many bricks and/or considdered as recycling...?? Quote
prateek Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 Can we have custom minifig pieces, for example, a tan torso with an airport print on it? Quote
Superkalle Posted June 4, 2010 Author Posted June 4, 2010 You can have one entry in each class, and since there are two classes, you can have maxium 2 entries in this contest - one in each class The minifigs colors and print combination must have been manufactured by TLG. The reason is that we have to draw the limit somewhere to avoid completely far-out entries. The idea is that if people see a MOC they like they should in theory be able to buy the pieces for it. The reason Toa of Justice could enter was that his MOC was posted just a few hours/days ago. For older MOCs than that, you cannot enter them. Sorry, but we have to draw the line somewhere. The brick limit is now set and finalized at 2500. Quote
Superkalle Posted June 4, 2010 Author Posted June 4, 2010 And wouldn't it be much more organized if we had just one entry thread here instead of several ones scattered across the board? I mean, if all LDD MOCs are going to be kept inside this forum, why not the contest entries? This decision was made at staff level. The idea is to have the entries at each theme so that LDD can be seen by more people. If the contest and entries would only be made in the LDD forum, it would be to much of a "LDD only" thing, and with this contest we want to invite people on a broader base to try LDD. And also because it's a way to make an EB wide contest for the first time and to see how it works. Quote
Randal Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 That official color rule is kicking me in the butt. That would take me forever to constantly check if something I want to do is not in the color I need. I was thinking of entering my little retro Sci-Fi skiff, but I'd want to modify it or redesign it... and I'd have to see if technics came in certain colors... I'm pretty sure those weapons pieces come in metallic colors though... Like silver or gold. Quote
Superkalle Posted June 4, 2010 Author Posted June 4, 2010 So pretty much one entry for me since I don't have a lot of Lego right? Yes, but you could make a small entry for the other class too. The minimum limit is 30 bricks. That official color rule is kicking me in the butt. That would take me forever to constantly check if something I want to do is not in the color I need. You can use LDD Manager to quickly import the LDD model and it will tell you pretty much immediately if you've used a non-produced color. I think that's the fastest way. Quote
Oky Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 The idea is that if people see a MOC they like they should in theory be able to buy the pieces for it. Aaah! I'm finally starting to see how you mods can get TLC to sponsor these contests! Quote
prateek Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 Sorry, but one more question. When voting, do you put all the entries from every theme together in one voting poll, or is there separate voting for each theme? Quote

But having two of the same discussion topic going on still does not make sense to me. Quote
Superkalle Posted June 4, 2010 Author Posted June 4, 2010 Aaah! I'm finally starting to see how you mods can get TLC to sponsor these contests! No, it has nothing to with that at all. Many of the colors produced by TLG at some point cannot be bought anymore. The only reason we have the rule is that we want to promote LDD as a design tool to use before the building of the MOC, i.e. to close the gap between digital and physcial bricks, and the only way to do that is to allow only manufactured colors. And TLG has no saying whatsoever in how we run this contest. Actually, they don't even want to become affiilated with this type of pure fan-organized contest. Sorry, but one more question. When voting, do you put all the entries from every theme together in one voting poll, or is there separate voting for each theme? All entries will be put together in one thread with all entries in it. Then the voting can start after that. Quote
Superkalle Posted June 4, 2010 Author Posted June 4, 2010 Okay, I understand that. But having two of the same discussion topic going on still does not make sense to me. Well, I guess you're right it's not an optimal solution. The idea was to have one thread to discuss the entries, and one to discuss the contest itself. I'll look into cleaning this up. EDIT: Done - the rules thread is now locked and all questions and comments will be in this thread. Quote
Randal Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 I'm going to make a thread which will help peoples LDD MOC's look better than the raw scans, as if you read my comic or look at my official set previews, you can tell I'm not putting up raw captures. I think once people see that you can take a couple steps to make LDD images look better, they'll warm up to it a bit more. Quote

Please note Randal that it is not allowed to enhance or Photoshop the LDD model screenshot itself. You are only allowed to place the LDD model on a nice background (like a scenary, water, a road etc). You can put up a thread to help people how to place their LDD model on a nice background if you want. Quote
Randal Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 I thought entries were going to be the lxf files, not screen captures... Any lxf seen by judges will be in their raw visual state. Quote
