Brickdoctor Posted May 3, 2011 Posted May 3, 2011 So in all of my topics, (and only my topics) I recently noticed that on the right side at the bottom of the page, there's a drop-down list with only one option that reads 'Topic Moderation'. Whenever I click 'Go', I get an error page saying I don't have permission to use that function. I don't remember that being there before; and what exactly is its purpose if I'm not staff? Quote
XimenaPaulina Posted May 4, 2011 Posted May 4, 2011 I've noticed that too when I reached the rank of Grand Duke, but I never bothered to do anything with that. I might be wrong but I think it has something to do with previous Grand Dukes having some sort of moderation capabilities(?). The fact that there is only one line in the drop-down list (Topic Moderation) means the list is blank, because the complete list includes Move/Close/Delete/Merge/etc., which the moderating staff use in their function. That's why when you click the 'Go' button it doesn't do anything, simply because those functions are disabled (removed actually from the drop-down list). Quote
Brickdoctor Posted May 4, 2011 Author Posted May 4, 2011 Okay, thanks, KDM. Was/is this then used to grant temporary mod powers to Grand Dukes? I noticed during Werewolf Jim Butcher seemed to be able to lock his own threads. Quote

With regards to mafia games, I believe mafia games hosts are granted that power, regardless whether they are Grand Dukes or not. Quote

Siegfried Posted May 4, 2011 Posted May 4, 2011 Grand Dukes can open/close their own topics. That's probably why it's there. I'm not sure why that privilege is enabled but for now it'll stay that way... Quote

I'm not sure why that privilege is enabled but for now it'll stay that way... That is curious, I don't recall that showing up when I first hit grand duke. But I seem to have it now. But why would I ever want to delete this gem of a topic. Quote

prateek Posted May 20, 2011 Posted May 20, 2011 That is curious, I don't recall that showing up when I first hit grand duke. I've always had it since Grand Duke. Maybe you just didn't notice. It's a nice feature anyways. Quote
def Posted October 16, 2011 Posted October 16, 2011 Big Cam, you would have had that as a teacher as well, which JimB would have also. You can only moderate your own topics though. Quote

Before I became a Grand Duke, I could not open/close my own topics outside of the Academy, I'm pretty sure. It's probably different for Big Cam since he's the Shipyard Master. So, I don't think teachers get any special powers outside of the RA. Quote

They do, I specifically remember it from when I wasn't a Fellow, but was a teacher. And I had less than 2500 posts. I could lock my own topics if I wanted to. I'm not making this up Quote

I'm not making this up It looks like we'll have to pool our money together, buy a DeLorean, convert it to a time machine, hit 88mph, go back, and simply verify this. Or we can just take your word for it. Quote
