The_Chosen_1 Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 Now that we have all of the essential characters for both films, I am glad to see them exploring other minor characters. That's definitely an arguable point, since there are many characters that some might see as "essential" (myself included) that haven't been made yet: Eowyn, Faramir, Old Bilbo, Wormtongue, Treebeard... just to name a few. Mahtion Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 Couple new thoughts. Rivendell should have two new hair molds with elf ears, circlet for Elrond and the thick hair for Arwen. This will work great to make more diverse elf minifigs. The choice of using a Last Alliance Elven great sword makes sense over a one handed long sword like Hadhafang. Not only do all of the Last Alliance elves carry one, the Galadhrim in their scout uniforms do as well as their armored versions at Helms Deep. Likewise in the Hobbit the four Mirkwood Elf nobles with Thranduil are seen carrying them as well. Compare this to the noble style of Hadhafang, only Arwen, Haldir, Thranduil and Elrond use this type of sword. It is much less common whereas the Elven great sword is found on almost every elf. Quote
Zilcho Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 I love each set! I don't care about there being only 4, the new Lone Ranger and superheroes sets need my money as well! Just a couple of thoughts: could the man in the black gate be faramir? If you look closely in the corner of the box you can see him with fair hair, not Aragorn's dark brown hair. I'm not sure but it looks like Gimli in the council of Elrond could have a brown version of Gloins hairpiece which would be very welcome. I just hope they don't use the same Orc for this wave as they did in Orc forge and attack of the Wargs, and maybe even have 2 new torsos and heads for a lot of variety. Quote

It couldn't possibly be Faramir because by then he was in the House of Healing falling in love with the beautiful Éowyn :) Quote
Rogue Angel Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 You're... ahem... late to the party. Well, there had been no discussion on the pics, so it was still relevant, and jump started the convo, didn't it? Put that in your pipe and smoke it. (sticks tongue out) Quote
Gryphon Ink Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 I like what I'm seeing for the 2013 wave. No, it doesn't cover all the bases, but I think it's a solid wave. Wizard Battle - GREAT small set. Saruman available at this price? Gandalf with hair at this price? AWESOME! I know a lot of you guys wanted Orthanc, but this gives you everything you need: take your Wizard Battle and your Orc Forge set. Hold the Wizard Battle six feet in the air above the Forge. Now imagine there are 10,000 black bricks in between the two sets. Voila, it's Orthanc! What a fabulous design! And the PPP ratio is out of this world! Council of Elrond - again, great set for its size, although it definitely could have been bigger and captured a little more of the flavor of the Last Homely House. But this looks nice, and we get Arwen and Elrond! Woo-Hoo! Black Gate - I don't know about you guys, but I can't see a thing in that picture except for the spikes atop the wall and a tower on the right-hand side. But I agree that there is a wavy shape at the top of the box that MIGHT be an eagle, and if it is that is awesome. Seems like a solid set, lots of key characters and a big surprise in the form of the Mouth, who is one of the creepiest villains in LOTR and has only a tiny role. That, to me, is showing a lot of love for the AFOLs and AFOLOTRs especially. Thanks TLG! Corsair - really can't tell about this ship from the art. You may remember I did not believe they would make a corsairs set. Well, I admit it, I was wrong. This ought to be a cool set, but I don't know that I'll buy it before the inevitable clearance sale price drop. So many minifigs suggest that this is a gigantic set that I don't really need to have. Awesome stuff for Pirates fans, though. To those who are saying that this sucks because they missed a lot of iconic scenes in this wave, I say take heart in this: the fact that there are so many key scenes that haven't been done yet, tells me that TLG are confident in LOTR and are saving those preciouses for next year, making 2013 the "middle chapter" year. LOTR will return! In 2014 we will see a Balrog, Witch-King, Eowyn, Fell Beast, Gothmog, Faramir, and the gates of Minas Tirith, if not the whole city (see ongoing debate ). It's going to be awesome. And what about Treebeard, you ask? Well, here's another prediction: Treebeard is the 2013 exclusive. $40 ($50 if it's a TRU exclusive), includes brickbuilt Treebeard and Pippin, Merry and Grishnakh, a small tree. Quote
Zilcho Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 It couldn't possibly be Faramir because by then he was in the House of Healing falling in love with the beautiful Éowyn :) Ah. My lotr knowledge fails me. And I guess this will be our only chance to get Aragorn in Gondor armour. Quote
Sigolf Brimabane Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 Ah. My lotr knowledge fails me. And I guess this will be our only chance to get Aragorn in Gondor armour. The Gondor armour will be sweet :D Not very excited about the eagle though... Sure they're nice fellows and one would need a bird of Manwë for some parts of the sagas, but I'd not grieve if I didn't get one :/ I still want Éowyn more than anything else </3 Hope she'll be cheap because both me and my elder brother will have to get one each xD Quote
Haltiamieli Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 Well, there had been no discussion on the pics, so it was still relevant, and jump started the convo, didn't it? Put that in your pipe and smoke it. (sticks tongue out) General Magma was around five hours and close to a hundred messages before you Concerning Wizard Duel, I don't think it rules out Orthanc as a D2C set. If they would be making Orthanc as an exclusive instead of a normal retail set, it would make sense to offer Saruman in some other set too – he's a bit too important to be left out of the main line, and Orthanc D2C could have some other exclusive characters (Gríma, Orcs, possibly Ents if they so choose, even Dunlendings). I think Orthanc would scale down nicely into the normal non-D2C set style, but it has always been one of the better possibilities for a D2C set too (other possibilities that I would like are Rivendell (which too has a small set with main resident characters now) and Meduseld). Quote
Sigolf Brimabane Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 I'd vote for Meduseld! It'd be nice with Éowyn in dress in one set and Éowyn in arms in another set :) Quote
wesker Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 I still want Éowyn more than anything else </3 Hope she'll be cheap because both me and my elder brother will have to get one each xD Same here. I would happily trade both Arwen and Tauriel for Eowyn. Quote
Sigolf Brimabane Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 Yes! A funny thing with Éowyn is that I suspect that her name MIGHT mean 'Horse Lady'... Since 'eoh' was an old English word for 'horse' and 'wyn' looks like it could be a dialectal form of the element '-wen' from Morwen and Arwen, which means 'lady' or 'woman'... Quote

I don't see how this relates to Lego LotR 2013 however. Quote
Mr_Malfoy Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 I believe that this wave might be, as Gryphon Ink said, "the middle wave". They'll probably more than four sets in 2014. I've got a feeling that the rehash of Castle (which looks terrible), will only last one wave. Quote

Basteq Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 There might be more sets coming this year. The source revealed only two SW sets and there should be much more for sure. From financial point of view I hope there will be no more considering 2nd wave of Hobbit sets by the end of 2013 ;) Quote
frumpy Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 From financial point of view I hope there will be no more considering 2nd wave of Hobbit sets by the end of 2013 ;) I agree. I've got LOTR, Hobbit, Castle some super heroes and some TMNT on my list to buy. Quote

I'm now pretty sure that perhaps the source only took a picture of one page, there might be two for LOTR. I'm still hoping for Balrog and Treebeard sets, and something with Gondor. Quote
Rogue Angel Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 General Magma was around five hours and close to a hundred messages before you (slaps forehead) i don't know how I missed that. I was reading posts from the 22nd on what I thought was the previous page-stupid phone! Quote
Pumpkin Pie Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 I do have a quick question. I have a Elrond fig so should I give Elrond's cape to Thorin? And should I bricklink a longer dark blue cape? Quote
Hive Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 But that was sort of an army builder with 2 grunt soldiers, was it not? Sure it had Jack.. but buying him with 2 grunts wasn't that bad. In comparisson Orthanc would most likely have Saruman at the very least, and most likely Gandalf. Why offer a smaller section of the tower with the exact same minifigures a larger version would have? Good point, didn't think about that. I guess only time will tell, though it would be a huge surprise to me if they don't release Orthanc at some point. Quote

Shroffy123 Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 Sets look great, with a June release we may start seeing these sets late April? Only downside, as with all licensed themes, fleshie and redundant figs. Quote
