def Posted March 2, 2013 Posted March 2, 2013 Yes, after a very brief break, it is back: What is it? See this: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=78833 I thought the last game was fairly balanced, and that the town were very close to turning it around. If they had had two more townies, the game would have lasted another day, and a lot of the scum would have been caught and things would have turned around. To a town win? Can't say. But, it was close. Still, I am not immune to player feedback, and have tweaked the mechanics. Originally, I was going to have this be 100% open about the roles, but I've decided against that, since it would hurt scums ability to lie. Rather, I will highlight the major changes to the last game, and you can decide if it seems balanced or not. If you have a suggestion to improve it before the game starts, I will take it into consideration, especially if other would-be players strongly support it. Roles will not be 100% the same, allowing flexibility. So, here is the game situation: -two scum teams, one who kill, one who recruit. They don't know each other, and can only unite through trust of each other (or Big Cam <But seriously, Big Cam, I expect you to play. You are my hosting mascot >) -town has to get the scum while not letting them unite, meaning hard claims in thread are difficult, but also that town should consider trying to infiltrate the scum. In the last game, scum did not unite until day five! That is plenty of time to do something. Here are the major changes: -I won't be able to delineate the kills at all and the SK will have to be a night kill, allowing all sides to megablocks better. It makes the night kills a little less fun (or presentation will have to be total decoration), but it will free up teams to scheme better. -the town will not have a cop. It will be replaced by a pair of masons, who can recruit only town to their masonry. One of the two may recruit each night, and if both die, town is out of luck, much as if the cop were to die. This is a big power to town, and to balance that, scum will have no godfather. Instead, both teams will have a recruitment blocker that will replace a frame, giving a certain amount of doubt to failed inductions. But town will have the flexibility to trust their own team among the masons. -that's a big power swing to the town, so the scum-recruitable players will be randomly distributed among the town, including power roles, preventing scum from simply targeting bored vanillas, but also giving them an ability to take out power roles. -I'm willing to fatten out the town to a total of 28 players, depending on sign ups. There will be between 26 and 28 players. Theme has been determined, but once again, I want you to sign up for the game, not the theme. Please sign up here if you would like to. Only people with mafia experience may apply. Please tell us: 1) Your mafia experience 2) If there is anything you would like changed about the rules before going in 3) Your opinion on pussyfooting
Scouty Posted March 2, 2013 Posted March 2, 2013 Any Seers? Not sure if I'll be able to play, I'll have to think it over, based on my schedule.
Piratedave84 Posted March 2, 2013 Posted March 2, 2013 I would loooove to play this again seeing I was killed on night 2 and I would like to redeem myself! 1) recent history included Heartlake Heartbreak, EB mafia (untitled mafia 1) and just now The Pearl Mafia 2) the changes you announced here are sufficient to balance things out a bit better than last time. 3) what??? I'm going to assume you mean this in a synonymous way to lurking; if so, I'm no fan of it! It is sort of necesaty in some contexts but as a general rule of thumb; "you sign in, you post" is my philosophy!
Cecilie Posted March 2, 2013 Posted March 2, 2013 1) I've played a few... Witchbreed, Imhotep, Yakuza, Steampunk, The Forest II, Heartlake, not sure if I can count the predecessor to this, seeing as I died before day 1 2) I think the changes sound good, I have no doubt this game will be balanced. 3) Ok, I had to look that word up, and if I understand the term correctly, I hope nobody feels like calling me a pussyfoot based on my playing
Piratedave84 Posted March 2, 2013 Posted March 2, 2013 I didn't see a mention of this; will there be a nigt zero as there was last time?
Dannylonglegs Posted March 2, 2013 Posted March 2, 2013 Alright! Round two! I would love to play if you'd have me! Apart from two Lab-Practicals this week, I should be clear-to-play (and the Lab-Practicals shouldn't interfere with my playing much either.) 1. I've been in many games at this point, but if you'd like a complete list, my about-me-page is pretty much just that. I was in Forest 2, Heartlake Mafia, your last Mafia, The Viking-line Mafia, and a gaggle in between. 2. It actually looks good. The Mason idea is a great one. 3. That depends on whether or not it's flying. ~Insectoid Aristocrat
CMP Posted March 2, 2013 Posted March 2, 2013 1) Too many for me to bother to list anymore. I've played in 16 games. 2) Nope, things look pretty good. 3) I'll assume you mean lurking, and if so, I don't approve of it, even if I'm scum and their inactiveness inadvertently helps us.
TrumpetKing Posted March 2, 2013 Posted March 2, 2013 I'll play. 1. My history can be seen on my profile, but I'll post it here. I played in Mafia School: Police Infiltration, Heartlake Heartbreak, Eurobricks Mafia (I was your butt-awful vigilante), and I just finished (and won!) The Pearl Mafia. 2. They look fine to me. I just don't understand the mason idea. Will the masons basically be a second faction of the town? If so, then I understand and like the rules. 3. I hate it so much. I was more of one in The Pearl, but I was as active as possible. As useful as it can bes for the town to find out scum, it's not a good thing to do. May my friend Antoine come with me?
def Posted March 2, 2013 Author Posted March 2, 2013 I didn't see a mention of this; will there be a nigt zero as there was last time? Yes. 2. They look fine to me. I just don't understand the mason idea. Will the masons basically be a second faction of the town? If so, then I understand and like the rules. The masons will be a town group that is confirmed town to each other. If they were recruitable, they will no longer be so.
Hinckley Posted March 2, 2013 Posted March 2, 2013 1) Your mafia experience I played this one game with a castle and a slut and some other ones too. 2) If there is anything you would like changed about the rules before going in You want my opinion? I'm not one to divulge it, normally. I'm usually pretty quiet about things, but since you asked: I've heard you say before that you think a mason is over-powering the Town. Perhaps, consider that you've taken the feedback about your first game too far and are swinging too far the other way. Even with the conversion blocker, the Town may have too much power over the Scum with host-confirmed group of Townies. Maybe it would help to balance it more if you simply removed the framer from your original setup. But, it's worth a shot to try it your way. I'm not saying it wouldn't work, I'm just saying maybe consider. I hope that's OK... 3) Your opinion on pussyfooting I enjoy being a pussy foot. I usually dick around games and don't do shit, just sit on my megablocks and watch others work. I patiently put things together behind the scenes and reveal only what's necessary too. At least I got to say pussy, dick, shit and megablocks all in one sentence. megabluck, that's cool... ...what am I, 13 years old? Am I in?
Fugazi Posted March 2, 2013 Posted March 2, 2013 I'd like to sign up. 1. I have played in 10 Mafia games so far but due to circumstances none yet hosted by def, so I'd be thrilled to join in for a change! 2. Nothing. I'll just complain when it's over! 3. Pussyfooting? 1)adj. The act of using ones brake pedal excessively, usually while driving down hills or in the case of Washintonians; while merging into traffic. An inherent problem with Western Washington drivers who don't understand the capabilities/limits of their own vehicles.- http://www.urbandict...m=pussy-footing Yeah, I hate pussyfooters.
TrumpetKing Posted March 3, 2013 Posted March 3, 2013 That is true here in Washington. Very, very true, Foog.

Well, an argument was made that if the town cop cleared townies, they would still be afraid to work with them because of recruiting. If there was a single recruitment, it's not much of a danger, but with multiple possible recruitments, that hurts the town's ability to make a safe group. What do others think?
CorneliusMurdock Posted March 3, 2013 Posted March 3, 2013 I like Masons. (if you don't say that, they'll kill you... ) 1.) My incomplete mafia history is on my profile page. I should probably update that sometime... 2.) I think there should be a title. And requests for specific hair pieces should be honored this time, no matter how pretty I might look with a bow. Oh, and I should survive past the first night. 3.) Well, kittens have four legs, they should probably have feet attached to them. Otherwise, there will be youtube videos of struggling, footless kittens that would make me cry. So, if pussyfooting is defined as the barbaric custom of chopping off the feet of kittens, I'm against it.
Palathadric Posted March 3, 2013 Posted March 3, 2013 1. Bedtime Story, Jedi Temple, Excalibur, Ragarnok Now, The Pearl...am I forgetting any? I'd better not be. 2. Nothing to say now, I'll be sure to cause problems at the end of the game though. 3. Two words that should not be combined.
TheBoyWonder Posted March 3, 2013 Posted March 3, 2013 1. Cirque Du Freak, Gotham, Yakuza, Jedi, Police Infiltration,Heartlake Heartbreak, The Pearl. 2. Nothing to say. 3. I practice the art of pussyfooting, but I aim to stop.
Pandora Posted March 3, 2013 Posted March 3, 2013 I really would like to play, but I'm still wrestling with my conscience over current time commitments. Well, an argument was made that if the town cop cleared townies, they would still be afraid to work with them because of recruiting. If there was a single recruitment, it's not much of a danger, but with multiple possible recruitments, that hurts the town's ability to make a safe group. What do others think? I liked the idea of masons when I saw it. If it's seen as too powered towards the town at present then maybe start with just one mason instead of two, but then also lose a recruitment blocker from one of the scum teams. Would the recruitment blocker(s) the scum have block scum recruitments too? What happens if both scum and the masons try to recruit the same person on the same night?
Scubacarrot Posted March 3, 2013 Posted March 3, 2013 Then that person becomes a superneutral! With access to both scum and masons, but the actual objective to kill everyone! That would be amazing.
def Posted March 3, 2013 Author Posted March 3, 2013 Would the recruitment blocker(s) the scum have block scum recruitments too? What happens if both scum and the masons try to recruit the same person on the same night? They would only be mason blockers. I haven't determined an order to that yet, but I would probably give it to the scum. Kills are last in order, recruitments second-last. The masons are a big swing to town, which is why I'd give the chance of a recruitment to them. No coin flips though Then that person becomes a superneutral! With access to both scum and masons, but the actual objective to kill everyone! That would be amazing. You should sign up.

Zepher Posted March 3, 2013 Posted March 3, 2013 Would induction into the masons remove a player's ability to be inducted into the scum? I too am wrestling with time commitment. I really want to play... but I'd hate to not be an asset to any team. Is there a way I could be a SK again.....
Piratedave84 Posted March 3, 2013 Posted March 3, 2013 (edited) Would induction into the masons remove a player's ability to be inducted into the scum? I too am wrestling with time commitment. I really want to play... but I'd hate to not be an asset to any team. Is there a way I could be a SK again..... I was wondering the same thing; could someone be recruited and then converted? Or once recruited they are immune to conversion!? On the topic of masons; I never played a game with masons before and am not too sure of the'weight' they may have on the game. That being said, I thought the 1.0 game was a bit unfair for town so this may very well balance things out! Edited March 3, 2013 by Piratedave84
def Posted March 3, 2013 Author Posted March 3, 2013 Once a mason, that person would not be recruitable. The idea is that town has a way to build up some trust on its side, and as a balance in a game with more recruitment than usual.
