goatman461 Posted September 23, 2014 Posted September 23, 2014 I think we're down by 2 entries overall. 2 more in Bothawui will give us 5 points (I know Markus has one coming for that planet), OM should be safe, MC may need one or two builds to hold, and we need 3 more in Fondor and Felucia each. Can we get one more out of Wat, VK, Lucas, and Mstr? This would be a great time for Artizan and a few others to return, as well. Lobot? Nom? Quote

I can make only one more entry and I'll try to make it on Bothawui or Felucia. considering I don't have lots of bright psychedelic colors, I may just go with Bothawui. And by any chance, do you know if I can ask for my first entry to be disqualified so I can do a remake of it on Ord Mantell? Wait... so we're LOSING! Noooooo! We can still do this though! Indeed, let's pull through. I'm sure we all want that profile icon! Quote

VK-318 Posted September 24, 2014 Posted September 24, 2014 Sorry, folks, Gmail has decided that all my email notifications from Eurobricks are spam, so I'm a little out of touch with the situation on the ground. But, I've finally finished a freebuild and my last episode build, and I've got some modifications to my existing episode builds coming when I get back from work in a few hours. For the Empire! Quote
Yzalirk Posted September 24, 2014 Posted September 24, 2014 I got up another entry here, hopefully you guys like it! Quote
Pointblank Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 (edited) I got up another entry here, hopefully you guys like it! I think you may need to flesh it out more, do you have any more tree stems or arched brown pieces? Also, perhaps some single studs to further enhance the crop line. If not, perhaps a building and/or rock feature... might come in handy too. BTW, I ran out of time, and couldn't get a revised Part 3 build in time to work on mkjosh suggestions. I wanted to build a stairs between the 2nd level(below the steps) and the underground passage, and for the trapdoor to move to the steps level, in order to better flow the sections, but it is more physically challenging than I thought. So I will likely stick to the current builds, hope that's satisfactory. Sorry guys. You may find all 3 builds below. Part 1 Part 2 Part 3. Criticisms appreciated to improve on future builds For future episodes, I will likely invest in a better and bigger photo green backdrop/screen. I can't seem to match the quality of most photo taking Edited September 25, 2014 by Pointblank Quote

Commander Beltar Posted September 28, 2014 Posted September 28, 2014 (edited) Hmm... What happened to in-character talk? (sarcasm, because I have a comment too) I may not be added to the index, but I just put up a Freebuild: I do hope this can be scored for xp. In Character talk: Just received a tour of certain parts of the Avenger from an old friend of mine. Lots can happen here in a short amount of time. At least 3 interruptions from janitors to a Special Ops crew. Link: http://www.eurobrick...howtopic=100717 Edited September 28, 2014 by Commander Beltar Quote

Link: http://www.eurobrick...howtopic=100717 :) I know its not in the spirit of competition, but I dont know if I want to rank up quickly :) I want to stay at a rank where I can get my hands dirty and do the Emperors and Vaders dirty work. Field action Massacring Rebels agrees with me. Covert Assassination and Infiltration Attempts also do. Commanding people, escort missions and search and deliver missions not so much. Quote

I do somewhat agree. It's just that I don't want to be stuck at 0xp for a while. (even though I probably will still be at 0 for awhile because judging apparently happens near an episode release) Also, I just want to get at least on build under my belt before the next episode. ~Beltar Quote

Field action Massacring Rebels agrees with me. Covert Assassination and Infiltration Attempts also do. Commanding people, escort missions and search and deliver missions not so much. Actually, somebody asked about this in the Introduction and Discussion thread a little while back, when Brickdoctor was editing people's scores and images in the Player Index. His ruling was that you could continue to accumulate XP normally but choose not to rank up as you did so. In other words, you can remain an infantry grunt even as you climb past 100 XP, if you so choose. Personally, I think it makes sense for you to climb the ranks all the way through the Dark Troopers/Shadowtroopers/Storm Commandos. All the ranks below that have significant bodies of troops detailed to your kind of mission. Just to clarify that statement I made paraphrasing Brickdoctor, you can at any time claim any rank you may be qualified for. So if you were an infantryman when you reached 100 points, you could choose to claim any rank that you had earned, including IDMR. You could choose to take an intermediate rank for a build or two, then the next one for a build or two, then the next, and so on, or whatever you wanted. But once you reach a top rank, you can't climb back down. The reason for this is that the rules already allow you to perform duties below your rank. General Veers directed the Battle of Hoth from the cockpit of an AT-AT. General Solo commanded the Battle of Endor from the middle of the battlefield, and General Calrissian from the cockpit of the Millennium Falcon. Atypical? Yes. Acceptable? Certainly. Essentially, you can take whatever rank you want if you've got the XP. And higher rank doesn't really preclude any low-ranked activities - generally speaking. Quote

goatman461 Posted October 20, 2014 Posted October 20, 2014 FYI if you want to nerd out on the numbers... Our average against the Rebels wasn't too bad. They averaged 7.0851 and we averaged 6.7955 per build. That means that 4 more average builds would have won this. Alternatively, over half our builds (25) needed another point each to win. They also had 6 "10s" that helped bolster their lower scoring builds, while we had a lot of "7s" and only 2 "10s." I don't like losing, so as far as improving in the future... I know that I need to take more time on my builds and definitely work on my photography. I think a WIP group PM would help me by allowing for more feedback on the builds and the presentation, I don't want to bombard others with my WIPs though, so a purely voluntary group would be nice. Or several groups so builders can choose their level of involvement. What do y'all think? How could your builds improve or make them more desirable to the judges? Where can we help our teammates develop their skills and/or come up with more interesting designs? What can bring Ninja Nin over to the dark side? Can somebody chop off one of LegoFjotten's hands or take away Donnie's bricks? Quote
BEAVeR Posted October 20, 2014 Posted October 20, 2014 I fully agree with goatman461. We need to get our quality up. I try helping by writing rather long feedback, but only on the finished build. Maybe it could have a bigger impact if it were still a WIP and all possibilities were still open. It would be nice if we could help each other to become better builders, and I imagine that was one of the reasons most of us joined. I don't think a PM would be a good idea, as it would become very cluttered and everyone would get loads and loads of notifications. I think that a Flickr group could be better, even though not everyone has an account. It's what we used on the Alternate models challenge, and it worked beautifully. It's easy to share and comment on pictures, and we can have some threads with general discussions (e.g. a photography thread, a picture editing thread, building techniques etc...). It can be just as secretive as a PM, because when you mark pictures as private, no one can see them. But if you post them in the group, all members can view and comment on it. So, who's with goatman? I know I am. Quote
MstrOfPppts Posted October 20, 2014 Posted October 20, 2014 (edited) Well I've been asking for a subforum for SoNE ever since episode II I think ... it could have a Rebel and imperial secret subforums instead of these (useless) ship threads, where RPG as character speech was never understood by majority of players. It could have tactics talk as well as WIPs if so desired ... but anyway, where's the point in keeping WIPs secret? Apart from the last and episode IV all entries were allowed to be entered as WIPs. As far as I recall the number of participants that took advantage of that could be count with the fingers of a (carpenters) hand. Rebel advice could abviously do us good too so I see no need in having a secret VIP area. Especially not somewhere outside EB. I don't use flickr and have no intention to in a near future. Five LEGO forums, 3 mails and a dozen of other sites is quite enough to check, plus I'm a very lazy person. Edited October 20, 2014 by MstrOfPppts Quote
goatman461 Posted October 20, 2014 Posted October 20, 2014 I don't think submitting true WIP entries in the forum is a good idea because it will clutter the presentation of the builds. Forum entries should be (near)finished projects, otherwise there is a lot of confusion about the pictures being referenced in the comments which can go on for several pages depending on the discussion. It's too messy and takes away from the final presentation of the build. The WIP status is great for minor corrections and making sure that the builds adhere to the rules, but not big changes. Visitors won't necessarily want to see how the sausage is made. As far as the tactics of a secret WIP thread/PM/flickr group, the Rebels seem to be very good at organizing there submissions and timing them properly. It does not help us, in any of the episodes, to show them what we're working on so that they can counter it. Also, any closed group would have to be completely voluntary, we won't force you to participate Quote
Pointblank Posted October 20, 2014 Posted October 20, 2014 (edited) I agree with the above and would gladly participate. However, i think while average score matters, I think the number of participants/submissions mattered more. In the latest episode, loose maths we had 42 submissions and I think rebels had 49-50. We were definitely more strategic. Also, Everyone has to somewhat try to submit based on their rank and improve as it goes. With higher ranks all round, I think we should be able to win next one if the format is kept. When is the next episode releasing? Its approaching the holiday season and need to plan around it ;P Edited October 20, 2014 by Pointblank Quote
goatman461 Posted October 20, 2014 Posted October 20, 2014 I think all of these episodes have come down to the number of participants. In previous episodes part of the scoring was directly based on the number of entries, but, even in the last episode, it all comes down to who can get the most builders. Hopefully the next episode will not be that way because the Empire is always going to be disadvantaged in terms of recruiting (not as many people want to play the bad guy). Not much we can do to bring up the numbers besides recruit, recruit, recruit. And better builds will lead to more attention/interest in SoNE. Quote
