Slobey Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 Hi Avalonians, Introducing Ezra Oakheart, second son of Edward Oakheart. GoH Ezra Oakheart by slobey79, on Flickr For many years Ezra and his ship "the Harpy" have been employed as a privateer by the Valyrians, hunting down the pirates who prey on the merchant ships and generally doing the dirty work that the Valyrian navy doesn't want to do. Dark tidings have reached him, reporting his father had fallen victim to the plague that swept through the land and that his older brother had also died in mysterious circumstances not two weeks later. With a heavy heart Ezra has set his bearing west to pledge his loyalty and men to the Guild of Avalonia and reclaim his fathers holding of "Elysian" Elysian by slobey79, on Flickr All Hail Avalonia!! Scaevola Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 Welcome Slobey. Also nice job on the entry moc Quote
Slobey Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 Thanks for the welcome guys! I've lurked around GoH for a while and have finally started building again after a fairly long hiatus. I have a couple of mocs close to finished, just need a few bricklink orders to arrive..... Quote
Hammerhand Posted July 14, 2014 Posted July 14, 2014 Glad to have you here in Avalonia, Slobey! It's remarkable how similar our sig-figs are... They must go to the same barber. Quote

Rogue Angel Posted July 16, 2014 Author Posted July 16, 2014 Welcome LordofDan, Sparrow the Conqueror and Slobey! You have joined the finest of guilds. Excellent work on all the entries for Challenge II! We had some great builds come out of Avalonia, and most of our active members entered at least one build. We are in the voting process for Challenge II, so the results will be posted in a short while. I have updated the map to account for the addition of our newest members and I am happy to present Task 5! FIFTH TASK Avalonians! All Lords and Ladies need a stronghold or fortress from which to rule their realm. Do you have a castle, a keep, a fortified farmstead? Where is your base of operations? For the fifth task, you should provide a picture of your stronghold. This should be your main fortress, not a small outkeep or tower. Remember that you should be displaying flags in the guild colors (dark green and sand green) or incorporating these colors into your uniform or standards. Entries for this task should be posted in their own topic and a link should be posted in this thread. Entries for this task should be quite substantial in size. I would not expect anyone to be submitting a 16x16, or even a 32x32 build unless it was very tall. This should be your sigfigs primary residence and it should provide protection while displaying the power and wealth of your sigfig. Quote
Hammerhand Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 Cool task Rogue Angel! I've been thinking about building a fortress for my sig-fig for a while, now I have some motivation! Quote
-Carson Haupt- Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 Cool task, but for some members a build that large might be nigh impossible. Just a thought. I'll start working on mine soon! EDIT: Would a micro-build be acceptable for task 5? How important is it that it's in minifig scale? Some people, especially newer members, might be able to use this if their collections can't support a full sized castle. Quote
Bregir Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 Great to see and updated map (is it updated on the first page too?) Task 5 seems like quite a mouthfull, but I am certain we will see some great entries all around - over time. /Bregir Quote
Wedge09 Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 Great fifth task Rogue Angel, I have to start building but I think I can't go over 32x32 size much! Quote
Bregir Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 A few questions for task 5: 1) If your sigfig's fortress/stronghold is smaller than what would fill out 32x32, you could fill out the space with landscape or sorrounding buildings, etc? 2) Should this be open to all guilds, like task 4? Quote
de Gothia Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 Nice task! I´ve built my home for de Gothia. See if it can be approved since my house is inside my walled city of Sionnach.. Quote
MKJoshA Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 ...I've lurked around GoH for a while... There's that word "lurk" again! I swear, 1 out 5 new members uses that word when they join us! Though, may I say, whether you are lurking or not, it's good to have you in GoH (but you joined the wrong guild!). Quote

Rogue Angel Posted July 19, 2014 Author Posted July 19, 2014 Would a micro-build be acceptable for task 5? How important is it that it's in minifig scale? Some people, especially newer members, might be able to use this if their collections can't support a full sized castle. Normally, I'm pretty lenient on scale and interpretation, but not on this Task. No microbuilds will be allowed. Great fifth task Rogue Angel, I have to start building but I think I can't go over 32x32 size much! A few questions for task 5: 1) If your sigfig's fortress/stronghold is smaller than what would fill out 32x32, you could fill out the space with landscape or sorrounding buildings, etc? This build will reflect the power and influence of your sigfig. If you don't have a powerful character (Owlan comes to mind, because I don't believe he has any significant holdings) I could maybe see just a fortified home or farm, but as most of you have lords ruling their own realms, this build needs to have real substance to reflect this. If you build a little 10x10 tower that is 20 studs tall, then your sigfig will have very limited standing with the other more powerful lords. (Although if you really go over the top on size, you may seem ostentatious and wasteful). This is the first time a building for a task will directly correlate to your stature as a Lord or Lady. A bigger build means you are a more powerful Lord. A build on this scale would represent a petty Lord who may be more of a Scholar or Recluse than a commander. A build on this scale with a courtyard or walls surrounding it would be an acceptable build for a smaller Lordling. A build on this or this scale would represent a strong lord A build on this scale would represent one of the major powers of Avalonia, such as ZCereberus was. 2) Should this be open to all guilds, like task 4? Nope. This is only open to Avalonians - not that I would stop other guilds from building their own strongholds. Quote
narbilu Posted July 19, 2014 Posted July 19, 2014 I would like to claim the small island northeast of Hemresa, the isle of Norra for my storyline if that is ok with you... Quote
Bregir Posted July 19, 2014 Posted July 19, 2014 Aha! Bigger build = MOAR POWAH! *orders great big bulks of grey bricks and quits job* Power... Power!... POWAH! *Cough cough* - Great task! Quote
Rogue Angel Posted July 19, 2014 Author Posted July 19, 2014 True, you probably would have to quit your job to... wait, you'd think you'd need .. to work.. more? Anyways, this or this would provide the majority of the pieces you'd need for your fortress. Besides, the whole POINT is that these strongholds are supposed to be a show of force and power. That's half the reason castles were built in the first place. Quote
-Carson Haupt- Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 Okay now with those examples I think I've gone a little overkill. Time to scale back! Quote
-Carson Haupt- Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 Well, my main problem is I'm afraid I won't have the bricks for it. Anyway, here's my mount up entry! http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=97988 Quote
Bregir Posted July 22, 2014 Posted July 22, 2014 A question - After the Revolword wars, didn't Historica reinstate the king in Cedrica? And in that case, shouldn't he be doing something to handle the things happening in Nocturnus and Avalonia (and the other Guilds, when we get that far... I might have missed something. :) Quote
