Garmadon Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 Question: I like to build very detail-heavy, intricately-lighted sets, usually focused on getting one excellent shot instead of building a complete building or an even border. I know I'm supposed to have red and dark blue in Kaliphlin builds, but is it OK if it's a red/dk blue flower, for instance, instead of having a random flagpole in the middle of a jungle? There is currently no strict rule that you have to have the guilds' colors in each build (though I believe there was when GoH started), so no, you don't need random flagpoles in your jungle I don't think that the flower has to be there, but it would be fine if you wanted to include it Quote

To my knowledge it isn't even necessary to have the Kaliphlin colors in your build. At least I haven't always had complete Kaliphlin colors in my builds and nobody has told me the build is disqualified... For your introduction it would be a good idea but other than that its pretty much free to do as you please. Quote

Also, are you free to change sigfigs and/or factions (though the latter would be frowned upon)? Edited May 14, 2014 by Thomas of Tortuga Quote
Kai NRG Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 Sig-figs yes. Factions, no. At least not until the start of the next book, when there might or might not be the option to switch. And yes, it is in no way necessary to have the guild colors in your build. Whenever you're building a boat or building or some man made thing it would be a good idea to include them, as it helps others to see what guild you belong to. Also, in book one, whether you had the guild colors in your build influenced the amount of gold it scored. Don't know if that carried over to book two or not. Quote

Also, are you free to change sigfigs and/or factions (though the latter would be frowned upon)? On the sigfig issue, you can certainly change if you are getting sick of your character, but it's a good idea to make a small "wrap up" build to say goodbye to them (and add to guild lore in the process - especially if they have been around for a while) in addition as your new sigfig intro. You can also create multiple POV characters for a bit of variety as well. (although sometimes it's a stretch to remember all their names and how they relate to one another! ) Quote
Gideon Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 Finished a LDD build for the WotB field piece mini-challenge: I don't know if something like the historical Greek Fire has been used in GoH, but I took the liberty of introducing the corresponding Barqan Fire which seems to me to be a logic military usage of the Kaliphlin black oil I've also put together some troops for the call to arms, but I have to take pictures of them some day. SkaForHire Posted May 15, 2014 Author Posted May 15, 2014 Ok, for those who have asked about this in private messages, I am currently out of town for at least the next week. So my checking in is sparse. As I expected, nothing fell apart while I was gone. haha. Anyway, Kai, love that shield design for the base! Also, Gid, that war machine is very cool. Quote
Thomas of Tortuga Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 (edited) @SkaForHire: And you even got a new member! Kashifa bint Mu'adh, treasure hunter of Kaliphlin, signing in! Edited May 24, 2014 by Thomas of Tortuga Quote
DungeonsAndFlagons Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 Illarix Valoren is also signing up for Kaliphlin. Illarix Valoren is a 12 year old Lord living in a watch tower in the mountains of Rakath with his man servant Udo from Nocturnus. When Illarix was 10 years old his family keep was destroyed in an attack by a band of unknown marauders. His father Adamere Valoren dies defending the walls along with his men. His son Illarix and wife Viola survived the attack as they were visiting her family in Nocturnus. Viola was maddened with rage and set upon a quest of revenge. Coming from Nocturnus she already felt at home with the swing of a blade so she could do nothing less other than hunt down these marauders and kill them all! Viola set off with some her own family Raven Guard from Nocturnus on a quest for blood. She left her son Illarix in the last remaining watch tower under the psychotic care of Udo who is an old and trusted family servant from Nocturnus. She regularly visits him on her quest to see how his battles skills are coming along. Illarix’s other family guest from time to time is his equally psychotic Uncle Scalarus, his father’s brother. Between the upbringing from the psychotically deluded Udo and visits from his blood thirsty revenge maddened mother and insane Uncle it is a wonder that Illarix has grown up remotely sane at all. Once Udo decided that Illarix was capable of killing a man with a sharpened twig he started allowing Illarix to leave the Watch Tower without him. As soon as he was able to leave the tender care of Udo, Illarix went on journey’s to nearby villages to try and meet people a little less focused on murder, the honour of the battlefield and revenge. He started making friends with a local girl who was a hunter with her father in the mountains by the name of Tabytha Alantari. Also with the son of a trader that passes through regular called Eglarin Vargolas. By managing to spend as much time with these other children he has managed to start to balance out his family upbringing with time spent with sane people who don’t kill people with sharpened twigs. gedren_y Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 (edited) Kashifa ibn Mu'adh & Illarix Valoren, welcome to Kaliphlin. Illarix, is your tower located north or south of Qarkyr? Let me know more about the Nestlands and I can weave that into my stories. Egg is the blonde boy on the left: Welcome new members! @DungeonsAndFlagons That Udo looks very sinister- (He looks like he's ready to decapitate Illarix!) Thanks. Udo is mostly insane. The only rules he follows is commands from Illarix's mother and if he must a command from the young lord himself (unless it contradicts a command from Illarix's mother). He will kill to protect Illarix, well actually he will just kill just for the fun of it ....... Welcome all new Kaliphlin citizens! Gabe Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 Welcome to our newest Kaliphlinites! Great intro post guys. Thomas, i love the photography in your cavern shot - looks like Kashifa ibn Mu'adh just made her fortune. DragonsandFlagons, it looks as though we are neighbours! Two falcon clans in such proximity - should be interesting to see how our peoples get on. I'm still working away on my warship for the GNAR challenge - just need sails and a few minor tweaks and she should be done. Looks like we will have 2 dromon entries! Quote

It is a bit of a long read, but can be an engaging story. Please excuse the lousy images, the MOC was very rough and I was working with a bad camera. Egg is a good nickname, coming from the Nestlands Clans of the Armored Eagle Goddess. They are a light flesh people, so he has the look. Since his father is a trader, he doesn't need to have the hillbilly accent, but throw in some vaguely celtic language to some of his chatter. Quote

Thomas of Tortuga Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 Which, in your opinion, is more important for a Kaliphlinite to enter- the Sultan's Gate community build, or the Challenge II? I'm thinking that, for Sultan's Gate, I have a slightly better chance of winning something, but then again, the Challenge is more prestigious and important to the overall story. Hmmm... Quote
