JPN366 Posted June 18, 2016 Posted June 18, 2016 You know you're a serious AFOL if... Your wife spends $400 on a new iPad Air 2 for you for Father's Day and you're thinking to yourself, I would've been fine with just a $90 LEGO set. Or $400 in LEGO sets. Quote
That Orange Thing Posted June 19, 2016 Posted June 19, 2016 That took quite a turn. Also, can the above conversation go into another topic? Why? he asked a lego related question that just happened to take "quite a turn". Is there a keeping fit whilst building topic for people watching soccer anyway? let the man have his two posts of fun Quote
Kman860 Posted June 19, 2016 Posted June 19, 2016 (edited) No, I should have been more clear, I meant the first half of that as a joke meaning, it took quite a turn from drinking beer to doing push ups. The second half about a different topic was meant for the "what if" discussion. Edited June 19, 2016 by Kman860 Quote
RetroInferno Posted June 19, 2016 Posted June 19, 2016 Anyone here ever had the balls of buying an entire pricey wave on day one? If so tell which one and share your experience! ( planning on doing it for RO ) Quote
Richpepperell Posted June 19, 2016 Posted June 19, 2016 Got the chance to pick up the UCS Hoth set for £90 - no minifures or big figs - but all builds. Does anyone who actually bought this think it's worth iot at this price. The only minifigs I'd actually be sad about are the droid as I have tons of Hoth rebels, all the main cast as well as a couple of Taun tauns and a wampa already. I know the set is over-priced and under-whelming, but matbe for this price it's worth it - what do people think? Quote

( planning on doing it for RO ) I'll probably be doing it for the rogue one sets as well. I'm looking forward to it. 3 months! Quote

( planning on doing it for RO ) I've done it multiple times. But I don't have time right now, I'll tell you the story in a couple hours Quote
Kaijumeister Posted June 19, 2016 Posted June 19, 2016 Anyone here ever had the balls of buying an entire pricey wave on day one? If so tell which one and share your experience! ( planning on doing it for RO ) Haha...I did! Did it with the first Force Awakens wave and am planning to do the same with the Rogue One sets. Quote
RetroInferno Posted June 20, 2016 Posted June 20, 2016 Wasnt TFA the most expensive starwars wave ever released too? Damn son! Nearly twice as much as for Rogue One... Quote
Kman860 Posted June 20, 2016 Posted June 20, 2016 (edited) I did the whole TFA wave, the whole summer 2014 wave (plus the ewok village and tower of orthanc), the whole winter 2015 wave, the whole summer 2015 wave, and I might be missing one or two. I also bought almost all of this summers wave. I've never regretted any of them :sweet: I also remember on Force Friday last year, including Lego and Hasbro, I think I spent something like $1100 CAN that day  Edited June 20, 2016 by Kman860 Quote

( planning on doing it for RO ) I have with Star Wars action figures, but not Lego. I think the major difference is that I can afford to wait on Lego as they don't sell out for too long. Quote

The droids can be brought of Bricklink separately and with the use of previous Hoth sets, this set can be modified to make something better. Quote

JPN366 Posted June 20, 2016 Posted June 20, 2016 (edited) Does anyone know of a good flesh toned face for a young Rey figure from the flashback? Maybe the child Anakin face from 75092 or 75096? I think it has a distressed look face on one side. Edited June 20, 2016 by JPN366 Quote

tuggernuts Posted June 22, 2016 Posted June 22, 2016 I just found a 10179 for sale close by for a bargain. Fingers crossed I get a response! Quote

Juke Posted June 24, 2016 Posted June 24, 2016 Extra pieces! So extra pieces aren't a big deal to me. Usually they are just pins and single stud pieces and the like in my experience. My stand was that if there is a piece with 2 studs or more then I missed the step that told me to put it on. Which would drive me crazy. But recently with the Homing Spider Droid 75142 I had 1x2 pieces in the form of the vent type pieces. Then more recently, today actually, I built the Resistance Xwing 75149. When I was finished with bag 3 I think, I had a 1x2 flat tile in sand blue piece extra. I looked frantically to see if I missed something, to find I didn't. Which wasn't that big a deal because that particular style of piece I could plate somewhere to help improve the set. So I may have to change my rule previously stated. What's everyone else's experience with extra pieces, and what have you done with them? Quote
atlas Posted June 24, 2016 Posted June 24, 2016 I used to organise them according to set carefully, but that was when I would build every set and keep it built or modify it to some degree. Sometimes I would also put them somewhere on the set as well. Now I find that more often I just part out a set even sometimes before I've built it, so extras just get sorted with the rest of the parts. Quote
HawkLord Posted June 24, 2016 Posted June 24, 2016 I used to care about keeping extras pieces with their sets, but now not so much. Unless it's a play set style build with outdoor scenery where the extra pieces could be added as more terrain. If it a vehicle though the extras just go right into the sorting parts bin. Quote
JPN366 Posted June 24, 2016 Posted June 24, 2016 @Juke: Put that 1 x 2 sand blue tile right behind the cockpit hinge. That's what I did. I made a post about how I modded mine. @Juke: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=134335 Extra pieces in a small snack size ziplock bag with the set info labeled, each figure in a 2 inch by 3 inch ziplock bag with the set number labeled, the figures go into a sandwich size or bigger ziplock bag with the set name labeled. I'm super organized. Quote
jdm44 Posted June 24, 2016 Posted June 24, 2016 I used to keep the spare parts in separate bags but I eventually stopped doing that and now I just add them to my parts collection. Yesterday I was building the 75044: Droid Tri-Fighter and it was missing a 2x4 DBG wedge plate and I ended up with an extra 4x2 dark blue wedge plate. That was the only time a set was ever missing a piece. Luckily I had the missing piece in my parts collection. Quote

I'm super organized. Ha! Great minds think alike, that's exactly what I did. Sadly I don't have the pieces to do the full mod I used to keep the spare parts in separate bags but I eventually stopped doing that and now I just add them to my parts collection. Nice! I usually put them all in the same bag. At one point I had a 1x4 plate extra. After I had built 10 different sets, some of them big sets. Drove me bonkers for weeks. Finally went through all their instructions and found that my wife had put together 75034 incorrectly and had not put the piece on Quote
JPN366 Posted June 24, 2016 Posted June 24, 2016 @Juke: I used around 45 pieces to MOD the 75149 X-Wing. I can give you a list of what I used and where I put them if you want. The 75102 required much more, because I replaced most of the random gray and dark gray pieces on the body with black or orange pieces to get a cleaner look. Quote
