If you want a general discussion about Pirates of the Caribbean 3 then head over to At World's End the thread in Culture and Multimedia Forum. If you want a a highly indepth Piratical discussion about the movie then post in this thread!

So, as a Pirate LEGO fan do you think this movie is worth seeing? Or will you avoid it at all costs because it delves too deeply into fantasy and visual effects. Will it be a good inspiration for your MOCing? Would any particular aspect of the movie make a good set?

What are your thoughts and opinions?

Well! potc is upon us! Who is going to see it? Who isn't? I for one, am going to see it 5 times over.

State your opinions here!

If this thread isn't LEGO related we better move it to the Culture & Multimedia thread so non Pirate fans can find it more easily.

Perhpas, but there already is a thread about this in that forum, so maybe it's better if we keep it here or close it...

Anyways, I think I'll go next week, those cinemas in here are arleady full two hours before the movie actually starts tomorrow...

I won't see this movie.

I went to the cinema for the first potc movie, but I was soooo bored.

Just not realistic enough for me...

I know what we can do to make the threads different...

You mean there's too much fantasy for your liking or you think the visual effects look unconvincing?

Too much fantasy. And I don't like how Johnny Depp is bringing his character.

Just not my cup of tea...

But these movies keep pirates alive amongst kids and adults, so that's good for our forum.

There has been Pirates of the Caribbean MOCs in the past but they're scattered throughout the Pirate MOC Forum. Maybe its time for a Pirates of the Caribbean MOC Index X-D

finally, someone who understands it...

why I don't like POTC:

1) they make fools of those british soldiers

2)I think Orlando Bloom can't make any role good... (:shivers: Troy)

3)I don't understand how a ship with ripped sails can be the fastest ship in the world?

4)Its one of those new kind of movies: great visual effects, but a very thin storyline, with actors who don't act convincing enough, but are "good looking" and get a lot of money. Movies like these are: Daredevil, Van Hellsing,...)

5) and of course 5: I hate fantasy (except star wars and 300 :) ). I'm bored watching POTC 2 or all three of the LOTR movies.

Why I like POTC:

1) Captain Jack Sparrow always acts like he's drunk or took drugs.

The worst of all: I have a few friends (all girls) who watch this movie only for Orlando Bloom and Johhny Depp. How low can movies go... 8-(

Sincerely,

Gaetano

P.S. Me and some friends are making a maffia movie right now, inspired on the Godfather. That's one hell of a good movie.

Well, if you haven't found out (obviously :-P ), the movie is fantasy. You said it yourself!

I hate fantasy

So, the Black Pearl is a Haunted ship. Therefore, it beats everybody. No exceptions. X-D .

Me, no, I wont see it for a while. I've got finals next week, a film to shoot and edit, and lots of other tidbits.

That's a very interesting opinion because it seems the majority love Jack Sparrow's characterisation. You're the bad apple of the bunch aren't you? :-P

Well, I love the series (Duh, look at my name) but with the exception of Norrington they make the British Marines/sailors/officers look like idiots who can't fire strait, when they would have had to go through months of training. In CoBP they missed Jack when he was standing almost still and they were in a large group (so that their shots would have a higher chance of hitting.)But in DMC, look at that! Jack-hole Sparrow shots off a perfectly strait slow-motion shot at the Kraken, when just 1 minute before, he was acting incredibly intoxicated.

Just wondering why you don't hate Star Wars and 300? What about those movies that keeps you interested?

I think potc 3 will be the worst. Just read the script. For those who haven't read it or can't find it, I'll post it! Don't get too excited though, they say the movie is somewhat different.

That could be seen as a spoiler. So please don't. I think it's better if you only send this by PM request.

So if you want to read it, just contact Mr Hans!

And another reason not to post the script on Eurobricks is because it may violate a copyright infringement and we'd rather avoid any Imperial... Ummm... "Legal entanglements"

well, I'll say it like this:

I like fantasy that is possible:

300: Everything in the movie is possible, sometimes on the edge, but it is possible.

Star wars: I always liked sci-fic movies, who'll tell what the world will be in the future? And of course, darth vader :D

I always loved Gladiator for exemple. I finally found some slow down button, and saw so many errors in the armor in the beginning battle. Gladiator sank... They said they did a lot of research...

300 is pure fantasy, but possible (:p), so they can't be blamed for making it not historical correct.

Gaetano.

I'll say it like this: I'd rather go and make a assignement in religion class than watching POTC 2 again.

Man, there is a lot of "Pirates" bashing going on here!

Has it not occurred to anyone that what we are doing here is largely romanticized or "fantasy" Pirate building?

Though I do not believe there is anything critical to the movie in what I am about to say, Imperial Scouts has pointed out that what I say could be a spoiler, even if a very small one. So if you fear that I will divulge too much information please stop reading and go see the movie first!

BEGIN SPOILER ALERT--

I have, in fact, already seen PTOC3. Let me tell you, it is long and there are a lot of deals and betrayals, but if you have seen the first two multiple times (I often allow the movies to play in the background while MOCing), you will be able to follow well enough to enjoy the mayhem.

In terms of inspiration for MOCs here... there are certainly a lot of ships and battles.

The British ships, much like the Dauntless and Interceptor in POTC 1 are very realistic and there are a lot of chances to see ships and one very crazy battle. The flagship of the British fleet, the Endeavor is is a yellow and blue ship-of-the-line. You don't get many chances to see it, but it certainly looks good in case you want to see a ship-of-the-line in action for MOC inspiration.

If you did not see POTC 2 a couple of times, I would hesitate to go to POTC 3 without watching POTC 2 once or twice to get your bearings.

END OF SPOILER ALERT--

I guess ultimately I just hesitate to see "fantasy" as a good reason to not see a film, especially when you must be open to some interpretation of what a pirate is as a fan of Lego pirates suggest you are open to some fantasy interpretation!

Mr. Z, you need to acknowledge that some of us haven't seen it (Like me X-D) and need to say 'Spoilers' to prepare unseuspecting readers (Like Me again X-D ) before they read to far. I should go watch it sometime soon.

Warning: Plot Spoilers in rant!

Having just seen the movie today I have to say, my opinion about them being incredibly biased against the British has not changed much. The Royal Marines: still mis-firing, only hitting something if it's a pivotal plot point, still not realizing that the section of docking that they are attempting to walk on is destroyed, and still being blown up with special effects.

Endeavor, the British Flagship is promptly sunk in 1 pass. Look at paintings of naval battles, 3 deck ship of the lines are meant to hold up to more then that. Plus, Beckett starts going crazy, and none of his inferior officers have the sense to tell the men to fire. The only way the Endeavor could be sunk in 1 pass, is if one of the shots (none of which hit below the waterline) hit the power room, which is unlikely, because I believe that people still had to have had the sense back then to put the powder room on the orloop so that is is not very likely to be hit.

Then there is Beckett's "SLO-MO" scene, where he is walking down the Endeavor's stairs, and as he walks the section of stairs behind him promptly blows up. Which could not have happened, they would not have cought fire like they did, just splinter... Unless, one of the ever-ignorant marines mixed up paint with blasting jelly.

Also, Norrington's death was unnecessary, and he COULD have lived (I am not speaking on my liking of the character!) Was Bootstrap's actions necessary? Probably not. Once again, very anti-English.

They also seem to have changed the British Marines from the traditional red w/ white facings over to what would appear to be the uniform of Royal Artillery.

On a lighter note, the scene was Jack is hallucinating that copies of himself are crewing the Pearl was rather funny.

"MY peanut" :-P
