Thomas of Tortuga Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 (edited) As the day faded into twilight in Avalonia, the city of Brevis descended into chaos. Rumors of a deadly plague had spread across the city like a whirlwind, and the panicking citizens brutally attacked anyone they suspected of bearing the disease. The Avalonian army was marshalled to enact martial law and organize an evacuation, before the plague grew any worse. Past the remains of burned and looted houses soon stretched a long line of refugees. From the ruins of one of the homes, a cellar door was shoved aside, grating on the piles of ash. Inside was a small girl, clutching a shivering dog to her breast, and her father. The man’s heart sank as he beheld what the fires had left of his home. Even worse, where was his family? What had happened to his three sons, Peter, Alfrich, and Gavin? Where was his wife Anne? Had they really all perished in the flames that consumed their house? “Father?” the peasant’s daughter asked plaintively, her voice trembling. “What happened to our house? Where is Mummy?” Tears were rolling down his cheeks as he hugged her. “It’s all right, Eleanor,” he tried to comfort her, though the enormity of his own loss was almost too great for him to bear. "It’s gonna be all right…someday…” The house across the street. I took some pretty clear inspiration from Legonardo Davidy on this building, from the roof rakes to the tan patches to the stonework. In addition, Gilbert Despathens helped give advice on the stonework. A tree. The leaves are inspired by the time-honored techniques of Mark of Falworth, and the trunk is an adaptation of a technique by Kai Bernstein, a friend from MOCpages. Scaevola Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 (edited) Great work with the Tudor-style house (especially the stonework). Excellent job with the tree as well. I was wondering who Bregir was doing the collaboration with Forgot about the credits too (like always) +1 UoP DoH for all claims Edited June 11, 2014 by Scaevola Quote
-Carson Haupt- Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 I really love that Tudor house. The arches supporting the second floor are great. Quote

Kai NRG Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 (edited) Great work Thomas, good job portraying the burnt house and the story is well done! Edit: Forgot about the credits. +1 for all of them. Edited June 11, 2014 by Kai NRG Quote
-Horizon- Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 Nice Build Thomas! it would have been nice if Kashifa was helping evacuate, but great MOC anyways. The tree and the house look terrific. the tree is so simple but looks great. Might have to try it.... Quote
Gilbert Despathens Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 The finished model looks great, especially the greebled lower floor. I didn't know you were planning a thatch roof, but I have to say it was a good decision. The rest of the scene looks pretty good, too, but I didn't get a good view of the burnt-down house. Quote

I didn't really think she would fit into this scene well, since the scenario is so chaotic. I'd love to see your take on the tree! The finished model looks great, especially the greebled lower floor. I basically thought of that while I was studying Legonardo's photostream- he puts thatch on most of his houses, to good effect. I'll try to pick up a shot of the ruins tomorrow. Quote
Gideon Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 Very nice house and great minifig posing UoP +1 for all the claims. Quote

Garmadon Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 (edited) Nice build, the Tudor house is done very well (and I guess the other house is very well done ), especially the bay window and first story stone work Great job with the selection of faces for the minifigs and with their posing; the carriage is nice addition too Edited June 11, 2014 by Garmadon Quote

MassEditor Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 Awesome scene Thomas, I love seeing these stories on the plague unfold in all these great builds (though they are heartbreaking)! There's a lot to like, from the stone work and house and landscaping, but I think the burnt house is very nicely done. Great work! Quote
Gabe Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 Great entry Thomas, the full width street was a good choice, allowing you to get lots of dramatic angles for your storytelling pics. The range of techniques on show here is sweet as well - the walls of the tudor house, the burnt out ruin and the tree are all excellent. There is some really nice minifig choices and posing in the crowd as well. UoP+1 for all credits (the wall technique on the house is for the stonework, right?) Quote
de Gothia Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 Such a dramatic moc! Burnt houses, sad people and the soldiers trying to make some control! Great entry!! Quote

That was one of my goals, to make sure I could get mostly Lego in all the backdrops. I'm glad the different techniques flow well together. Yes, the stonework on the lower level. (Or the Tudor woodwork on the second floor. I tried hard on both sections ) Such a dramatic moc! Burnt houses, sad people and the soldiers trying to make some control! Great entry!! Thank you! kabel Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 Very nice house, time for you to start your own fully grown city I'd say The only thing that bugs me a little is the torsos that are not fitting, but I guess that was hard to be solved. Quote
Kayne Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 Thomas, great build here, so happy you joined the proper guild, and also +1 to the UoP credits Quote
robuko Posted June 13, 2014 Posted June 13, 2014 +1 All credits. The composition of the photos is really fantastic, especially the crowd scene and the father/daughter shots. I was worried that having walls on both sides would limit you, but the photography dealt with it very well. Nice work on the burn site and the thatched building too! Quote

Hammerhand Posted June 13, 2014 Posted June 13, 2014 Great job! The main house looks very nice, and the burnt one also is very nicely done. The chaos of the evacuation with all the people and their belongings really gives this scene a panicked feel, which is perfect. Quote
