Smaug does almost nothing for me. Same ol' molded dragon legs and round little body is just not how he was represented in the film. The folding wings could be interesting, only reason he does ALMOST nothing for me. The new molds also contribute greatly to the price. Think about Rancor Pit, Jabba's Palace and the Sail Barge. Big molded creatures mean big price tags. One of many reasons I wish he was more brick built.

SDCC brings us the reveal of yet another set. The Lonely Mountain. Reports are coming in about available and price, early word is you should be able to find the 866-piece set in October for $130 USD. Discuss the new set in The Hobbit 2014 thread in History!

Word on the street is we will indeed be seeing 1 new Hobbit set at SDCC I would expect a picture and press release soonish.

And now the Ravens and Dragons are out on their own... I see some more story threads developing. Great work with the forced perspective part. Really sharp. I also like the rockwork. As usual, it is very clean and natural looking.

First off the original part of this thread... The I bought Orthanc piece... not really a valid reason to start a thread. We want topics designed to spur discussion and normally this would have been a no go. Though it oddly seems to have worked here, as tangential as it ended up being, I am closing this thread as the original topic is a nonstarter.

Those look like Black Nocturnus Fire Maples to me. Are you sure you didn't cross the border to tap those trees? Tapping another man's tree is a serious offense you know!

Very nice. I always viewed the color of the gatehouse as more like the dark orange color, but I've never seen it in person.
