I love that mask and what it in every color I can get it in, but, yeah gold is the last color I would have wanted. I'm really getting gold-ed out. Oh look it still uses that strange and not very good stand that the MoCr uses...

After the "Golden Era", which years were the best for BIONICLE
VBBN replied to Mandate's topic in LEGO Action Figures
2006 and 2007 were my favorite. I loved the story, the sets, designs, it was all just awesome. Although really I loved all of the years up to that point, I'm not sure why but from 2008 on I just couldnt get into the sets the same way those years had struck me. -
Threads have been created for Bionicle 2016- Sets and Story discussion will now be separate. They will not be pinned until anything is officially announced/revealed by LEGO, or until the 2015 threads can be reasonably unpinned. http://www.eurobrick...howtopic=112712 http://www.eurobrick...howtopic=112711 More information and details will be announced in coming weeks regarding the forum and the handling of LEGO Media. This thread will remain as a generic Action Figure theme 2016 wishlist thread.

I still think the problem isn't that the skullies are too short, but rather that the Toa are too big. I get that you want to show that a character such as Pohatu is shorter, but you can show that in subtle ways, you don't need to make Tahu or Kopaka mega sized to achieve that effect.

For now keep any discussion of what you want/think you'll see in 2016 to this thread. The 2016 discussion thread will be handled differently than usual, hence why it has not yet been created.

The biggest issue is that the new bone pieces are the same size as this piece and when you use that piece and the new bone piece the figure is still very short overall. Tahu is really tall (two friction extenders and much longer limbs) but is similar in height level to Lewa and Gali who are at the same price point as the Skullies, so it is disappointing that they are at an equal height to Pohatu. I think having at least one of the figures with longer limbs wouldn't have hurt, because this is one of the rare cases in which making a character taller and lankier isn't actually a bad thing. Again though this echoes why I hate hero characters being so damn tall. I much preferred Hero 2.0 where they were a smaller size and in turn we could have much more imposing villains or at least make it easier for characters to all be at a similar size class.

Really quick fix for Scorpio's legs, obviously it doesn't add a whole lot but it does give him a nice amount of movement in the legs to make him feel at least somewhat more animated.

Exo-Toa is a cool idea, but what I'd really love to see (and this will never happen but I can dream) is a wave of attachments for Toa. So say we got the 2015 Toa this year, and one wave next year is a wave of six "add-ons" to upgrade the Toa, Like an Exo Suit, an Aero-Booster, set of "Doc Oc styled claws" etc. Of course each one would also have to include a figure of it's own, but like the 08/09 sets it could be a simplified figure..like I said I can dream.

Crappy mobile pic, but you get the idea of how it looks.

Well after I downsized I really don't have a whole lot left other than my chrome 2001 Hau. I have a bunch of red test shot system pieces though, so, there's that.

Well, it goes better than orange would have. My problem with it is that they did this to all of the figures, so while you have 4 really cool printed chestplates, they all have red, and hence any MOC you put them in without red is going to be mismatched. So really it limits the usefulness of all 4 of them.

Please don't tell me I'm the only one who saw Korgot and immediately thought of escargot Happy they have names though, and good to see they are just as random as ever.

Glad everyone is loving this set as much as I do! Yes the hammer is supported with only one of the friction gears, you can easily use the other gear for Grinder. Missed that, I will reshoot the photo soon and add that in. Thanks The weight of the weapon isn't really a big deal, I mean it does move the wrist around but it's not like a crippling problem by any stretch. If anything the weapon is so big that it's awkward for the size of his arms. Thanks! Posing is my favorite part of doing these reviews and why I love Action Figure sets so much

Though as I mentioned in my reviews, the blended masks aren't nearly as cool if you don't have the corresponding Toa- With the Skull Spiders, they could be an enemy for the character to fight you you could place it on them to "take over" and make them a villain to fight another hero, but with these blended masks there isn't a whole lot you can do other than have the character hold it as an accessory.

Oh, no I meant that I would show how his function works (hence the picture showing three arms forward and one back) I haven't yet made up a fix for it.
-
Yeah, the tail is a jarring difference to the body, the only way that I've justified it is to think that he once had a regular scorpion tail that was lost in battle, and it was since replaced with this artificial construction. I mean, it works for me I guess. Well, technically he did, the trigger at the rear end wasn't the greatest looking thing ever- but I see your point. I think overall LoSS did have an overall better look, but I feel like playability wise this guy's function is more practical than the function that LoSS had, which i think was rather silly and did cause some slight sag to the figure. You know, considering I own a scorpion, you would think I wouldn't have made that mistake. Amended it

I've moved the CCBS vs G1 Bionicle Building System to the thread we already have for such discussion. Please continue it there. Obligatory groupshot (though Slicer seems to be shy and is hiding behind Warrior...) For future reference that would be here

Set name: Mask Maker vs Skull Grinder Set number: 70795 Pieces: 171 Price: $29.99 | £24.99 | €29.99 Release date: 2015 This is the one everyone has been waiting for, Mask Maker vs Skull Grinder! Or Ekimu vs Skull Grinder... or Skimu vs Kulta... Harry Potter vs Voldemort? Well for redundancy sake, I will be referring to them as Ekimu and Kulta accordingly. Anyway, this of course has the coveted Mask of Creation- but you aren't paying $30 for just the mask, is the rest of this set equally as worthy? Read on to decide for yourself! Packaging Box Front This set is the only Bionicle set this year that comes in an actual box as opposed to a hexagonal shaped package. Keep in mind that this is the European packaging, so what info is displayed may be different than other countries. The box displays the two fighting over the Mask of Creation, with a nice look at Okoto in the backdrop. Box Back The back shows a comic panel, combo model, and set features. Since it's a box, there are sides for all of the safety info, which means there is none of that clouding up the back. New / Interesting Pieces Bones and Weapons The set includes the narrow torso bone in silver, which is a nice change from the usual black. We also have the new bone piece, modeled to look like a real bone. Also, you get both of the new molds of weapon for the villains, which are designed with "hooks" to pull masks off of opposing sets. Trans Parts We have the stud launcher in trans light blue (also found in Skull Warrior), the eyestalk in trans neon orange, and the brand new torso shell in trans neon orange as well. Misc Parts First, we have the breastplate with a print, very similar to the other skull villain's prints. I have pictured the golden Chima armor add on here- it's not new, and we have seen in in Queen Beast, but this is still relatively rare for Americans (or anywhere that Chima Constraction didn't end up in), so I have it pictured. (This section is new and interesting parts, anyway) Next there is a decorative golden piece, the stud launcher firing pin in light gray, and the new armor add on, which is fairly large. Masks Oh boy, this is a lovely sight to see. First, we have the protector mask, in gold mixed with trans light blue. Next, the absolutely stunning Mask of Creation. Don't you worry, there's plenty of photos of this bad boy coming up. Finally, we have Kulta's mask, which is the same as Warrior's. I adore this design, and to have it in a different color is certainly welcomed- as opposed to Scorpio/Basher who have the same mask in the same color. Mask Stand Building We do get a stand for the MoCr, which is simple but, well, somewhat effective. Rotation ... What? Oh, right, I have to actually talk about the mask instead of just staring at it. It's fantastic. The detail is perfect- I've been wanting this mask ever since the first image of it appeared last year. The "official" way? As far as i can tell, this is how the mask is officially supposed to sit on the stand. problem is, it moves too much, the little Technic bit doesn't hold it up at all, it just slides right off of it. Mask Maker (Ekimu) Gearbox Although Ekimu is Protector sized, he does feature a gearbox- with two friction gears? The hammer isn't heavy in any way, although I'd rather have more friction than not enough in this case, because it's easy enough to remove if it was too much. Action Frame He has a standard protector bone structure, nothing groundbreaking there. Armoring Gold really brings out the trans light blue. Those familiar with the size of the Protector of Fire will be familiar with how chunky this particular build is. Shield The first weapon you build is his buzz-shield. Like most Protector sized weapons, it is simple and does have a spinning feature. Hammer The hammer is a creative use of the stud launcher piece, and does actually look like a proper hammer. Maybe Ekimu and Onua can become home improvement workers? The gun can be fired by twisting the rear side of the hammer. Front Ekimu looks fantastic. His weapons, proportions, color scheme, in my opinion the best of the protector builds this year. Profile View He has a fairly bulky upper half thanks to the chest, gearbox and large shoulder pads. Back View There's only so much you can do with a gearbox to hide it, so not horrible all things considered. The Legend Thankfully, the shortest bone pieces were added to give him "elbows and knees" if that's what you want to call them- either way they add to the poseability in a positive way. The Mask of Creation You know what's about to happen. Activate Ac-Activate Oh yes. Also I'm really happy he can pull off this pose. Whether you interpret it as him placing the mask on his face or facepalming is another matter. Victory I'm having too much fun with this. I thought the mask would look too big on Ekimu, but it actually looks fantastic. Hello There I'm not really sure what else there is to say at this point- I could tell you to go buy this set right now and we haven't even gotten to the big bad himself yet. Tahu with MoCr Surprisingly, this doesn't look as good as I envisioned. I think Ekimu will stay the wearer of this for a while. Skull Grinder (Kulta) Gearbox Kulta's gearbox uses these large turret pieces, which results in an interesting shape, though the function is just a simple double-arm swing. Action Frame For those who have read the other villain's reviews up to this point, you can already tell this guy is going to be the tallest of the Skull Villains. Armored He utilizes four of the new armor add-on to give some bulk, and the extra pieces to the gearbox help to fill out his torso. Weapon So here is his mask-grabbing-staff-of-doom; Okay you basically build a droid tri-fighter. Front Kulta is fantastic. His color scheme isn't as colorful as the other villains, because he uses the trans neon orange as a main color, but it still looks great. It is a bit jarring to see such thin limbs turn into bulky limbs and a torso, but it's a unique look and really is what the skull villains are supposed to be. Profile View This is not Kulta's greatest view. The chest armor sticks out quite a bit- you can lower his neck into it, but as a result his chin ends up behind his breastplate. Back View Bonus points for being the only villain of the wave to have an armor shell on his back. Lift it High The gear function works, but this is a really heavy weapon and has some weight issues, although the issues lie more in his arms not supporting the weight, not the gears. Spooky Scary Skeletons Send Shivers Down Your Spine Yes, he is the biggest set of the villains and is still quite barren in the armor department, but in this instance I think it works just fine. The Dead will RISE The staff can actually hold the MoCr, which is nice. Come at me bro The MoCr does in fact work even with the horns on the side of the head. Size Comparison Kulta is equally as tall as Tahu, making him the tallest of the villains and a nice matchup to the tallest of Toa. Complete Set The mask is attached in the "official" way here, but again I had to tilt it back to keep it on. Overall Last year, I told you to go buy Gali immediately after reading my review. I'm going to tell you to do that again. This set is awesome. The Mask of Creation is a strong selling point, but you also have Ekimu who is a really great protector build, with a great look, a simple but nice function, and a good set of weapons. Kulta is the largest of the villains, and has a cohesive color scheme, with a great mask and a very imposing staff. It's a battle in a box and, in my opinion, has the strongest protector-sized build of the year and one of the better villains of the wave. So, yeah, go buy this.

Set name: Skull Basher Set number: 70793 Pieces: 72 Price: $14.99 | £12.99 | €14.99 Release date: 2015 Hello everyone and welcome to the review of Skull Basher! Basher has an interesting function, one that allows you to move his arms in a- hold on to something here- bashing motion. Does this function make him a worthy purchase? Read on to decide for yourself! Packaging and Contents Box Front Like all other sets in this new Bionicle them, Basher uses a hexagonal shaped box. Again this is European packaging so some info may be different on the box than what you'll find on other variants. Basher is seen stealing Onua's Pakari, with Onua's hand reaching for it back. Box Back The back of the box features a comic panel, the combo model, and set functions, as well as a slew of safety warnings. News and Interesting parts Bones and Weapons We have a narrow torso bone in silver, which is a welcome change from the usual black. Also, there is a new bone piece in silver, which is styled to look like an actual bone. Finally, there is one of the new weapon molds, made with lots of hooking points to rip off a Toa's mask. While the other blade introduced in this wave has only one axle connection, this piece has two, plus two pin holes, which means we may see this one used in more creative ways in the future. Armor and Trans Parts First, we have the new armor add-on, which is really cool looking, and quite large. There is a printed chestplate, which is actually symmetrical in appearance. Next we have a trans neon orange eyestalk, and of course the new torso shell in trans purple, which, like all trans purple parts, is glorious. Masks Firstly, we have the Pakari in gold and trans purple, which is far and above my favorite of the 4 blended Kanohi we get in this wave. We also get Basher's mask, which is one of the two new skull mask designs in this wave. Unfortunately, both Basher and Scorpio have the exact same mask in the exact same color. I don't mind Grinder and Warrior having the same mask because at least they have them in different colors, but this just feels like a waste to me. Building Process Frame Unlike the other bipedal skull villains, Basher doesn't use a gearbox, we move on to something much different... Function This...thing. I really can't describe what it is, in a way it reminds me of Dragon Bolt's wing function. The silver hose piece is used as a "spring" and works fairly well. Action Frame The function attached to his back, not unlike how a gearbox would, and sits at about the same height. Armoring Just like his chest piece, Basher has a very symmetrical build, and uses four of the new armor add on to build up a fair amount of bulk. Overall he doesn't look too bad, and I have to say, of all the color schemes, trans neon orange and trans purple is the best of the mixes. It's actually a beautiful scheme, especially mixed with the pearl dark gray. Finished Build Front View His weapons are just the ax pieces with small handles built on. Profile View Due to the build of the function, he arms do sit slightly farther back from the torso. This, however is not the problem- the problem is, they flop around. A lot. The function doesn't hold them in place nearly well enough, which can be fairly annoying when posing him. Back View Giant red button is giant. Although, it does add a nice bit of bulk, making it look more complete than the usual gearbox does. Roar like a Minotaur If you raise the weapons up and use his function, you are going to bump into his horns and knock off his mask. it will happen, you can't avoid it. This pose was harder to do than you think Okay, so I didn't show any actual photos of the function because nothing I did showed what it could really do, so lets discuss it here. Basically, the red button can do one of two things. If you moved the red button left or right, then one of his arms will move forward, and the other will move back, like he is punching. If you push it, then both hands arms come together like he is try to bash you, or maybe hug you. Don't judge him, you don't know his story. And yeah, it took me a good ten minutes to get him to stay like this, either the arm wanted to swing back to a normal position or the figure was sliding out of place. Give me your face As much as the horns can sometimes get in the way, I adore the fact that we got a figure who used the long horn skull design- this mask was totally designed for this guy, and it looks way better on him than it does Scorpio in my opinion. I can feel the strength I said in the other reviews, the problem with these Toa masks is that, if you don't have the corresponding Toa, the playability isn't as good as what the skull spiders provided to a set. Function I described his function above, here's how the instructions depict it- strangely leaving out the punching feature. Size Comparison Even this brute-sized character isn't going to stand up to the taller Toa... Overall Basher has a cool function, albeit one that can cause floppy arms. And while the long horn design is cool, i have knocked his mask off more than I would have liked already. His color scheme is great and he does have a fairly bulky build, so if the thinness of skeletons is a turn off for you, this might be the villain for you. Personally, I rate him slightly lower than Warrior and Slicer, mostly because I like the unique look of Slicer and the weapons of Warrior more, but I definitely would recommend considering this guy up if you are grabbing some of the villains.

Set name: Skull Scorpio Set number: 70794 Pieces: 107 Price: $14.99 | £12.99 | €14.99 Release date: 2015 Hello everyone and welcome to my review of Scorpio! I- what? Oh, right, we already did a review of Scorpio. In fact I think we even did that back in Bionicle G1... Well goodbye! I'd love to know what is so wrong with calling a set Scorpion. Let's try that again- Welcome to Skull Scorpio's review, a brand new set of course! Of the skull villains, poor little Scorpy here has been getting a lot of flak and being called the worst of the wave. Is this the case? Read on to decide for yourself! Packaging and Contents Box Front Like most other sets this year, Skull Scorpio comes in a hexagonal shaped box. As always, this is the European packaging, so the information that is displayed may be different depending on the country. Skull Scorpio is, like the other villains, wrestling for control of a mask, in this case Pohatu's. Box Back The rear of the box features safety warnings, a comic panel,, set features, and the combo model, which in this case is a model that also uses Ekimu and Kulta, resulting in a rather awesome looking combo model. News and Interesting parts Bones and Weapon Like all of the other villains, he comes with a silver torso bone of the narrower variety, which is a welcome change of color. We also get the new bone piece that is styled to look after a real bone in silver, and one of the new weapon designs. Both of the new weapon designs in these sets have lots of "hooks" to pull off Toa or Protector masks. Trans Pieces and Leg We have the new torso armor in trans neon green and a shorter bone piece, both of which did not agree with my camera here, as well as a trans neon orange eyestalk, and the bone-wing piece in a translucent black. Masks Firstly we have the Kakama in gold mixed with trans neon green. We also have one of the two new skull mask designs. As I said in my Skull Warrior review, we unfortunately have a case where villains use the same masks. Grinder and Warrior have the same mask in different colors which is nice, but Scorpio and Basher have the same mask in the same color. Again, why not make one of them in pearl dark gray? Of course, if you attend SDCC 2015, you'll get this mask in trans neon green, so if you get your hands on that you'll get some more variety. Although, compared to the Grinder/Warrior mask, I think I prefer that one more. This one is cool, but doesn't look as downright evil as the other design does. Building Process Body Skull Scorpio doesn't use a gearbox design, instead you build this mount to the torso for the legs. As you can guess this build results in articulation problems- we will touch on that soon, trust me. Legs and Arms The arms are added on, which feature some claws for grabbing on to masks. Armoring Scorpio is the only of the villains to not feature a custom printed plate, instead the shell is added on to his back with a spike instead. Tail Construction The tail is a really cool construction. Although, people have noticed in some of the villains and Kopaka that a random gray pin is placed in the torso bone, and thinks this is for showing kids to not put other pins in the wrong hole. Is that really the right mindset? Because if they can't handle that, then a build like this tail is going to make them break down and gnaw their hand off. Anyway, the tail has a nice function, but as we will see it doesn't look so great in practice. Finished Build Front View From a front view, he doesn't look two bad. A bit flat of course, I like how the trans neon green shapes around his body. Profile View The tail is a block of Technic, there is no hiding that. Back View Of his angles, this one is far from the best. Function The tail snaps shut and moves forward slightly as a result. Waving I spent 15 minutes trying to get a decent pose out of this guy, and there is just nothing you can do. He has no, zero, sip, nadda articulation in his legs. Not even a little movement like Lord of Skull Spiders, they just don't move. His arms have got plenty of articulation, but there is only so much you can really do with them. The tail only moved back and fourth, and if you move it forward much more than it is now, the trigger gets locked up on the armor. MY PRECIOUS Of the mask grabbing devices these villains have, the claws on Scorpio here work the best. Day 100 and the Toa still don't know I'm a scorpion I really ran out of posing ideas here. Overall Skull Scorpio has his issues. His poseability suffers a lot, and as a result this figure has the same issue as Lord of the Skull Spiders did- he feels more like he was a figure that was made solely for the function, and the rest of the set suffers as a result. Also, like LoSS, his function is a "snapping' function, which is unfortunate because I think the tail looks far better when closed than sitting there open. I like him better than LoSS though, he is more visually interesting and the arms doe give him some character that LoSS lacked, and thus I would rate him above LoSS, but the worst figure of this wave and the second worst of the year. As always though, that is my opinion- my job is to show you the pictures and describe the set, you decide for yourself if he truly is the worst of the wave! (and if you don't think he is the worst, who is?)

Set name: Skull Slicer Set number: 70792 Pieces: 71 Price: $14.99 | £12.99 | €14.99 Release date: 2015 Hello everyone and welcome to my review of Skull Slicer! A four armed figure is nothing we haven't seen before. From Gorast to XT4 to the upcoming Grievous, but Skull Slicer here also has an added twist- those four arms are mounted to a gear box. Does having four arms make him the best of the wave? Read on the decide for yourself! Packaging and Contents Box Front Like most sets this year, he comes in a hexagonal shaped box. As always keep in mind that this is the European packaging and hence the information you see on the box may vary depending on the country. Skull slicer is in a fairly standard pose, with his hook holding on to Lewa's Miru- which we can see Lewa's hands reaching out for. Box Back The back displays a hefty sum of safety warnings, a small comic strip, some of the set's features, and also the the combo model. News and Interesting parts Bones and Weapon Firstly we have the narrow torso bone colored in silver, which looks fantastic and it's always nice to have some new torso colors after having so many in black. We also get the new bone piece in silver, which doesn't have any connection points for armor, but does look more like an actual bone. Finally the set comes with three of the new blade. Molding Defect I sure do have luck with molding errors. I'm sure people are waiting to spend hundreds on a piece that looks like it was chewed on by a 5 year old. I guess it looks battle worn though in a way.. Trans Pieces Hi and welcome to the most annoying photo I have ever tried to take. We have a contrast of trans bright green and trans neon orange, two colors that I never wanted to see together in a set and that are absolute murder on anyone who knows how much these cause trouble when balancing colors in a photo. But anyway let's see what we have here, a trans neon system chain, eyestalk, and also skull spider leg- and in the trans bright green department we have a bone and the new torso shell. Armor First we have a new printed breastplate. it's a cool design, but having red in all of them can be off putting since, well there is no red in these sets. You also have the new armor add on, which is actually a lot larger than I thought it would be. Masks This is actually the only set in the wave that doesn't have a new mold of mask- We get a skull spider mask in silver as Slicer's main mask, which...okay I'm fine with it being the skull spider mask because I love this design, but couldn't we have gotten it in pearl dark gray? The only villain in the wave with a pearl dark gray mask is Warrior, everyone else has silver... We also get the Miru in a gold mixed with trans bright green. Like I said in Skull Warrior's review, it's cool if you have Lewa, but if you don't, then it doesn't give you the same "bonus mask mileage" that the skull spiders did in the first wave. Building Process Gearbox Slicer's gearbox is an interesting design, not because of how it was built but as to how i'm going to try to fix it. I'll show this in a moment, but the build basically causes three arms to move in one direction, while the fourth arm moves the opposite. I'd prefer to make it so that two arms swing forward and two swing back, but due to the design this will need modification. Huge props to Lego for mounting all three to the box though, instead of just making the second set without gear movement. Action Frame His frame is, again, nothing complicated. All four arms are built the same way, and there really isn't asymmetry to see here unlike Skull Warrior. Armoring Tunneler beast only had one armor shell, and now Slicer takes second place with only two shells. With that said, the lack of arm does make the arms collide with eachother less, which is a plus side for sure. Finished Build Front View His weapons are simple, consisting of three blades and a grabbing chain. Trans neon orange seems a little underused here, if you ignore the weapon only one shell and his eyes are orange which isn't too greatly balanced. The red sort of helps blends the colors together, but I've never been a fan of trying match a transparent color with a solid one (and the wrong shade too.) Profile View One thing to point out here is that he has extra heels on his feet, so when three arms are moved backwards with the gear function he can still support his own weight. Back View Nothing noteworthy to really mention here, of course he lacks back armor but I'm not sure how much you can really place on a skeleton. Gear Function Here you can see how his arms move via the function. If you were to turn the gear the other way, a single arm would swing forward and the other three would move back. Arms Ready He poses fairly well, there is plenty of articulation to use and his weapons are small enough that they don't clash. One problem I am finding is that depending on how you pose he lower set of arms, sometimes the axle holding them to the gearbox will begin to slip out because the trans neon green bones at that point can't swivel too much. Armed and Dangerous I really love four armed characters, you can have so much more going on in each pose. The chain weapon is a little sloppy, but you can attach it the claw part under his hand with one of the free pegs if you so choose. My Mask Now The claw chain thing doesn't really hold the mask very well, and he can't exactly lift it high in the air- this is as high as that arm will go. Somethings not right here Lewa I think you have some extra appendages there, you might want to consult a doctor about that.. Someone help? Chain weapons and gearboxes have their side effects it seems Size Comparison All of the smaller skull villains stand at about the same height, which in comparison to a taller Toa like Gali or Tahu is fairly short. Overalll I really like Skull Slicer. He doesn't have a lot of armor or much in the way of limb design, but he has an interesting finished look and a function that works well without really interesting with the set or how it looks. He weapons are simple and are fitting- really the only thing I'm not a fan of here is in regards to the colors. I wish his mask was dark pearl gray, and if they insist on giving us trans neon orange, I would have appreciated having another bit or two of it on him. Other than that, I would recommend him about as much as I would Skull Warrior- that is, I'd get these guys after you pick up Ekimu and Kulta, and before you think about Scorpio or Basher.

Set name: Skull Warrior Set number: 70791 Pieces: 102 Price: $14.99 | £12.99 | €14.99 Release date: 2015 Hello everyone and welcome to my review of Skull Warrior! When images first appeared of the Skull villains, Warrior looked to be the weakest of the wave in my opinion, however after having him in hand he is now one of my favorites of the wave. Will you decide he is worth picking up? Read on to decide for yourself! Packaging and Contents Box Front Like the first wave of sets, Skull Warrior comes in the new hexagonal shaped box. Keep in mind this is European packaging, so some of the information on the front and rear of the box may vary depending on the country, The box art is nice, with an interesting structure in the backdrop, and also we see what is assumed to be Kopaka's hand reaching for his mask. Skull warrior is shooting is Freeze Bow in the direction of where Kopaka would be, and looks alright, no strange posing going on here. Box Back As usual the rear is full of safety warnings, product features and of course a small comic strip showing the struggle between Kopaka's mask. There is also a combo model, between Slicer, Basher and Warrior displayed. News and Interesting parts Bones and Weapons First and foremost, a silver torso bone! It is of the narrow variety, however it's nice to finally get a new color of torso bone, considering we haven't had new colors of it since 2011. There is also a new silver bone that is meant to represent an actual bone. While a cool piece, I'm wondering if we are going to see this get overused in anyway that causes sets to be under-armored in the future. The friction joint, while not new, has a black rubber insert inside of it now instead of clear. Also we have one of the two new weapon molds, a simple sword with hooks on it to pull off Toa's masks- or other skull villain's masks if Skull Warrior is having "one of those days." Armor All of the skull villains have this new dark pearl gray armor add on. It's a cool design, although I'm not a huge fan of the fact that we are only getting it in one color this go around. We also have a new main torso shell in trans light blue, which is nice as we haven't had a new torso shell since 2013 and this one comes in 5 colors in this wave, plus a black color with the upcoming General Grievous. Masks I'm not sure if Lego was just trying to figure out a way to shoe another mask into these sets, but only getting 4 out of the 6 Toa's masks in this wave is annoying. Well, in any case, you get an Akaku in gold mixed with trans light blue. (I would rather have gotten a new skull spider color but woe is me) What is far more interesting is the dark pearl gray skull mask, which looks GLORIOUS. Of the two new skull mask molds in this wave, I find this one far superior to the Basher/Grinder one. Similar to the 2011 Hero Factory villains and Waspix/Scorpio(No, not that one, the other one!) he shares this mask with another character, Skull Grinder. I would be annoyed that they just reused a mold, but I will take this mask in any color I can get. Misc Parts We have a new printed chest piece, which isn't as cool as the Toa's but still really neat to look at. The Stud launcher is molded in a trans light blue, the center firing pin in a light gray, and also the eyestalk in trans neon orange. Building Process Gearbox Skull Warrior's gearbox isn't the most creative of the villain's functions, but it works well. The handle on the back is extra long because he does have storage for his spear as you'll see soon. Action Frame Of the villains, Skull Warrior is the most asymmetrical. Different leg builds, and one arm made completely of bones. Given that these guys are supposed to lok like they just rose from the ground, I really like this look, and in fact I think he pulls off the undead look better than any of the other villains. Armoring Since you can't add armor to the new bones, this does result in much thinner limbs. Spear The spear is actually quite impressive in size. Interestingly, this is how it is constructed, with the mount for placing it on his back. When you place it into his hand, the spear splits in two to fit around the hand piece. Freeze Bow Skull Warrior also comes with a large bow made with the stud launcher. Now this is called the "Freeze Bow" what exactly is it shooting? Snowballs? That's effective. Finished Build Front view His finished look is...interesting. It's very asymmetrical, and he's armed to the teeth. We of course cannot ignore the color scheme, which combines trans light blue with trans neon orange, two colors that normally I wouldn't ever put together, because, well on a figure who seems to like freezing powers it doesn't look right. But eh, it's interesting to look at and doesn't look bad necessarily. Profile Views One side is slightly bulkier than the other. I guess he used to arm wrestle before he, you know, died and whatnot. I understand they moved the gearbox handle back to avoid clashing with the spear but that might be a little overkill. Weapon Storage Hooray for spear storage! Firing Bow The bow is neat and fits into his hands fairly well. Confident Pose The extra long handle on the bow does allow for some interesting poses. In this case it almost looks like a massive pickaxe, which was actually what I thought it was at first (because really putting two long tails on it doesn't mean you can call it a bow, but whatever.) Spear I love that he has a spear. For those wanting to army build, this is a great way to vary them. Also, his gear function is entirely based on this weapon, because once swinging arm doesn't work with the two handed bow. With Mask So if you don't have Kopaka, this is about the most fun you'll get out of this mask. Now as thrilling as a skull spider, but it's a neat mask. Also notice how he is holding the bow- this is a third point that he can hold on to. AM I PRETTY NOW? Yes. Yes you are. Size Comparison For all of these reviews (except Scorpio) I'll be using Tahu as a point of size comparison, because I'm pretty sure everyone in their right mind will have him at this point. Overall If you want a skull villain that actually looks like they just rose from the ground, Skull Warrior is the one for you. He has a good choice of weapons, an effective function that doesn't interfere with poseability or the look of the set, weapon storage, an awesome mask, and a striking color scheme. He is the "ice villain" of the wave in a sense, and of course if you want the new Akaku for your Kopaka this is the guy to obtain for that bonus. Parts wise you'll get five of the new silver bones and a silver torso bone, plus trans light blue bones and the new chest armor. Overall one of my favorites of the wave. He lives up to the undead name, can easily be used a generic army builder, and has a good build. I'd definitely recommend making this one of the first grabs of the wave.
