Quichybo Posted December 19, 2011 Posted December 19, 2011 (edited) Greetings! Inspired by some screenshots of LEGO-Universe, my own fantasy, this thread and finally encouraged by I Scream Clone I would like to start this index of brick-built animals and monsters that a minifig could encounter, tame or fight on his adventures. This may serve as inspiration for builders, especially for the Historica Guilds as well as a way to conserve some of the more interesting ideas of LEGO-Universe (that you will find in the next post). Maybe this thread would be better in the General Discussion Forum as I want to collect building techniques and many cases of "Nice Parts Usage". Every entry shall be built with more than one LEGO-piece, which means that I won't post a picture of a simple official cat or rat from TLG. Every entry shall be approximately minifig-scale. That means that I don't want a life-sized parrot in this thread (or you need a very good reason). But if you insist there may be an own section. Creatures on the other hand may reach unnatural scales like a giant spider or a dragonbaby. So just give me a reason why I should add it. There are many reasons why I should add an entry to this index. In the most cases you can click on the name of an entry for further informations. I like hyperlinks in an index. There is an own section with Creatures from official sets, as there are some nice ideas. Some are even better when modified, so Mods will be there as well. There is also a section for non-purists, which will include entries with elements from Brickforge, Brickwarriors etc. Now it is your turn! If you post an entry, please add where you got the idea (for example “LEGO-Universe” or “my own”) and, if it is purist or not. The focus is of course a detailed picture of your idea. A short description of the entry is optional. Generally know that the maximum size for pictures is 800 x 600 in this forum. Proper spelling and punctuation would be lovely. This post will be updated frequently. Custom Creations Abomination By MicahBerger Antman By MicahBerger Bat, giant By Angeli Bear By MicahBerger ... even with the instructions! I Strongly recommend these to people who want to build a big beast. Just click through the photostream. There are even more and I don't think that it is necessary to list them all... Quichybo Posted December 19, 2011 Author Posted December 19, 2011 (edited) Animals and Monsters from LEGO-Universe These have to be conserved. Does anyone know if they delete this wiki after the game is abandoned? In that case we would have to save these pictures as they are only links to the wiki for now. This is the "backbone" of a genereric animal from LEGO-Universe. On the bottom of the first image you see examples of parts that could optionally be used as limbs, heads or tails. Click on the images to get a larger version. Decide on your own if you want to make torso that is 1 stud or 2 studs long. Most (or all?) of the entries are 1-stud versions. Quichybo Posted December 19, 2011 Author Posted December 19, 2011 (edited) Animals and Monsters from official Sets and Modifications You may place the word “giant” before every entry. But actually doing so would cause unnecessary traffic . If you want to know how these models are created look for the instructions on LEGO Customer Service or Peeron. some Birds Tiny giant birds actually. Three from the 10193 Medieval Market Place (Picture by me) And one seagull from the 5770 Creator Lighthouse (Picture by TheBrickster) Crab Atlantis 8056 Monsters also like holidays on the beach. (Picture by The Cobra) Crystal King Power Miners 8962 I use this one as a rock elemental. (Picture by mania3) Dragon, armored Vikings 7021 Though the original design is quite ugly in my opinion it has great potential. And after all this is the greatest dragon TLG has ever sent into battle against minifigures. A Mod with longer forelegs, better wings and better feet. I think the original ones are ridiculously small. Click on the images to get larger pictures. Dragon, green Creator 4894: Mythical Creatures There is also a three-headed dragon. (Picture by dunamis) Dragon, red Creator 6751: Fiery Legend Prehistoric Hunters Creator 6914 Prehistoric creatures for the win! A T-Rex: An Apatosaurus (titled "Brachiosaurus", but that one would look different): A Rhamphorhynchus(titled "Pterodactyl", but that would mean an animal like the Pterodactylus and that one would have a shorter tail): Safari Building Set Bricks and more 4637 Great little set that is still available. Featuring a giraffe, an elephant and a crocodile. One of the alternates is a nice water buffalo. Scarab Pharaoh's Quest 7305 Rather a rhino beetle, but would serve as a carrion beetle as well. (Picture by Mariko) Scorpion Atlantis 8076 I see this one (or maybe a mod) striding over the plains of Nocturnus or Kaliphlin. (Picture by Plissken) Some Mods (click on the images to get larger pictures), note that i added one pair of legs: (Sea-) Serpent Vikings 7018 Detach the fins and you get a way better basilisk than the officially released one (which is ridiculous imho). (Picture by Sir Dillon) Shadow Snapper Atlantis 9079 A mod of this with longer "hind legs" (if that is the correct expression) is a great monster to threaten an entire village. (Picture by lisqr) A Mod of mine (click on the images to get larger pictures): Shark Atlantis 8058 A nice sea monster. (Picture by Mariann Asanuma and resized by me) Spider Creator 4994: Fierce Creatures Best giant spider TLG has ever released. Would serve as both Shelob and Aragog. (Picture by KimT) Some Mods (click on the images to get larger pictures): Spider Lord of the Rings 9470: Shelob Attacks The official Shelob is another very nice spider. (Picture by Lego Otaku) Spider from Halloween Set Lego 40021: Halloween Spiders As the original build was quite poor in my oppinion, i combined two of them to create a nice looking spider. Click on the images to get larger pictures. Wolf Vikings 7015 I'm still looking for something that could be used as a warg. This is not the one I was looking for. (picture by The Cobra) And a Mod by Fantu: (Click picture for photostream) Wyvern Vikings 7016 (picture by fenrir) For any of the Ninjago Dragons please visit this Thread. Dunno if this is really necessary. There are lots of dragons. If you still want me to add them, post it. I could make an own section for dragons, I suppose... Edited May 29, 2012 by Quichybo Quote
Quichybo Posted December 19, 2011 Author Posted December 19, 2011 (edited) Non-purist Section Here you will find entries which require custom parts that have not been released by the LEGO-Group. The Beholder (Flickr-Entry) The non purist item is the yellow ball that V&A Steamworks used as the eye. Tree Demon (Picture by Wardancer) Customized parts: Atlantis crab warrior head and claws painted. 1x1 plates with clip painted because for some reason they do not come in reddish brown. Big spikes painted dark green. Torso leaves cut to fit. Edited January 24, 2012 by Quichybo Quote
Stormbringer Posted December 25, 2011 Posted December 25, 2011 Those brick-built animals from Lego Universe are really good! I might actually look into them, for future builds. Quote
TheKingOfBuilding Posted December 30, 2011 Posted December 30, 2011 I made a purist lion a while back (see this topic) and would like to enter it. It was my own idea and uses all official Lego pieces Quote
Quichybo Posted January 1, 2012 Author Posted January 1, 2012 (edited) Thanks for this (first) entry! Now we will have to get some christians to feed them to your lion... any volunteers? I've made some pictures of my own creations, mainly modifications (click to get larger pictures): There are more images of these in the posts above. If you want me to post an instruction of those Mods you can post it in the thread. Also I found some nice flickr-pictures, which will also be added above. Edited January 1, 2012 by Quichybo Quote
Quichybo Posted January 1, 2012 Author Posted January 1, 2012 (edited) Sure, why not? I think, this is not about beautiful photographies of a unicorn in the moonlight. As long as it helps someone to identify something and say "Ah, that's how I could do it!", optional along with interesting usage of parts and if it meets the rules mentioned above, you can post whatever you want. I may still decide afterwards if I add it to the index (the first few posts). Edit: As promised, this is the "backbone" of a genereric animal from LEGO-Universe. On the bottom of the first image you see parts that could optionally be used as limbs, heads or tails. Click on the images to get a larger version. Edited January 1, 2012 by Quichybo Quote
Wardancer Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 (edited) I guess my tree demon would fit into the Non-Purist Section: Edit: Took out links and pic, because they are listed in the second post of this thread now. Edited February 1, 2012 by Wardancer Quote
Fantu Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 Animals and Monsters from official Sets and Modifications Wolf - Vikings 7015 I'm still looking for something that could be used as a warg. Huntleyfx Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 For some reason, that Warg reminds me of a SW Speeder Bike. Cool saddle though. Quote
Quichybo Posted January 23, 2012 Author Posted January 23, 2012 (edited) A major update: I think, this is not about beautiful photographies of a unicorn in the moonlight. But if there are some I will not deny them. I found this wonderful unicorn with some customised parts (I think so) and had to add it. Also there were some birds added to the posts above. Besides those smaller additions this could also be called the "MicahBerger Update". At this moment the first and the last entry of the Custom Creations Section are his creations. This is representative as he seems to be the Alpha and the Omega of brick-built creatures in minifig-scale. Praise him, he deserves it! I guess with his creations included this can finally be called an index! Edited January 23, 2012 by Quichybo Quote
Siercon and Coral Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 (edited) Non-purist Section Here you will find entries which require custom parts that have not been released by the LEGO-Group. Amythist Unicorn Dedicated to eilonwy77. This is a true beauty. I think the customised part is the white head of the unicorn. (Picture by Siercon and Coral) Thanks for the post! :D Just wanted to let people know that she's purist, the piece comes in the harry potter set #4752 Again thanks! :) The creatures list looks very helpful. And Micah has been very influential, and I wouldnt mind considering the Unicorn a Micah offshoot :D considering I used his horse as a base. Edited January 24, 2012 by Siercon and Coral Quote
Quichybo Posted January 24, 2012 Author Posted January 24, 2012 (edited) And I thank you for the info! I edited it and called the entry "Unicorn (Amethyst)" (was with typo before), so people who look for a unicorn would find it more easily, like the dragons. I was aware of that minotaur of MicahBerger, but I was to stupid to click the "up-button" in his folder at Brickshelf. Thanks to your thread I found out that he (if that person is not a "she") has built so many more creatures. I hope I can keep this thread alive... Edit: Added links to LEGO Customer Service and Peeron to the official sets section. Edited January 25, 2012 by Quichybo Quote
Lego_Hero Posted January 25, 2012 Posted January 25, 2012 (edited) How about a lion? I built this at least a year ago, but it showed up in the Batman/Gotham City contest a few months ago as part of a building. I've always wanted to do a vignette, but I've been spending most of my Lego time sorting lately. Edited January 25, 2012 by Lego_Hero Quote
Dwellington Posted February 1, 2012 Posted February 1, 2012 (edited) I was just messing around in LDD, and I've got a fox, a wolf, and a , all based on that Lego Universe body. Edited February 1, 2012 by Dwellington Quote
Quichybo Posted May 29, 2012 Author Posted May 29, 2012 I finally did an update of the MOC-Index and the Set- / Mod-Index. The changes are mainly by Toshiya: and shinji-o: Quote
NiceMarmot Posted May 30, 2012 Posted May 30, 2012 Not sure if this is what you had in mind, but here's a sand-golem I did for the GoH challenge 3. These things used to run amuck all over the southern deserts, but are rarely seen these days. Good thing too, as they're huge and incredibly strong. Thanks for the compendium of beasts, btw! Quote
Quichybo Posted May 30, 2012 Author Posted May 30, 2012 Thank you for the new entries. They are excellent, I will add them with the next update which will hopefully not take as long as the last one. I always wait some time between them. There will surely be great creatures in Guilds of Historica challenge 3 among the guardians as well as the Lord of the Rings MOCs. I've already spotted some interesting wargs. An update to a post that long is quite boring with all that copy & paste work, spell checking and creating a standardised format. And I HATE those brackets... yesterday I forgot to close two of them and, don't ask me why and how, I created a three or four-level recursion of the first post from "scorpion" down to the flickr-entries. THAT was nasty (and interesting to see that this is possible). It even took quite some time for the forum to calculate the post after having sent it because of its length. And just because of two missing squared brackets. I hope this won't happen again. Quote

-GZ- Posted June 3, 2012 Posted June 3, 2012 I've just found the topic and I can say that the donkey fig was invented by me: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=40868&view=findpost&p=737672 The first post says that it was made by unknown "someone".) Also, I've built the much better version of a donkey, but haven't posted it here on EB, only on Russian site: http://www.doublebrick.ru/mocs/zelenyi-zaktan/sancho-pansa Quote
Quichybo Posted June 3, 2012 Author Posted June 3, 2012 Thank you very much, I just had the picture to that russian image-upload in my bookmarks. I edited it. I like to have the real creator if someone wants to contact him to ask for further details. And of course it is just fair so he can earn the glory. And maybe I can even find something on that russian site. Quote
