Mike S Posted October 18, 2013 Posted October 18, 2013 Guys, be on the lookout for Gabe's lecture theatre. Once again he proves Kaliphlin's greatness! Also congratz Kai! That carriage is genius! Quote
robuko Posted October 18, 2013 Posted October 18, 2013 Congratulations Kai! Beautiful little carriage. Congratulations SSchmidt! Wonderful news! I am rather inactive at the moment, awaiting a baby in a few weeks and not building. I might get something together soon, but I am unusually low on inspiration right now. Still haven't picked a guild for book 2.... I was thinking of Xxxxxxxxx but it seems my beloved Kali might be a worthier cause. Quote

Also, I would have to change the frontpage... don't make me do work! Quote
ZCerberus Posted October 18, 2013 Posted October 18, 2013 Forget them, come to Nocty!! Pie, bogs, tribes, sweet victory. Quote

Of course we would be sad if he left! What do you say fellow Kaliphlinians? Should we enact some anti-Nocturnus laws to discourage defection to Nocturnus? Quote
gedren_y Posted October 18, 2013 Posted October 18, 2013 I just figured out how to do stacked poker chips in LDD. I've got some interesting ideas for tables in my casino as well. I also came up with a topiary that might not even work outside of LDD, even if the parts came in that color. I also just realized the kind of epic scale this build is. BTW, I watched Ocean's Eleven and the sequels this week, which has given me lots of ideas. Last night I installed two swimming pools next to the high roller villas. I ended up with an interesting effect when viewing the pools from an angle. Quote
Gideon Posted October 18, 2013 Posted October 18, 2013 @ gedren_y: Looking forward to the build you are hinting of Quote

Still haven't picked a guild for book 2.... I was thinking of Xxxxxxxxx but it seems my beloved Kali might be a worthier cause. Kaliphlin is the place for you! I think Nocty wouldn't appreciate the twisted humor of your storylines. They'd get the twisted part, but maybe not the humor. Stay here, and you can still build beautiful strange stuff. And the story will involve Nocty anyway. Quote
Nightstalker Posted October 19, 2013 Posted October 19, 2013 Of course we would be sad if he left! What do you say fellow Kaliphlinians? Should we enact some anti-Nocturnus laws to discourage defection to Nocturnus? I wouldn't do that. Attempting to push anti-Nocty laws could actually encourage Nocturnians to speak up against us. Besides, it could possibly lead to having allies in dark places (which is never bad in my opinion). Quote
Gabe Posted October 19, 2013 Posted October 19, 2013 Great work on the "Master of Historica" wiki Gex, it's looking really good! The discipline and subject lists are looking quite comphrehensive, and i have a couple of suggestions as well: I reckon the architechture discipline should definitly include a component for interiors - ideally both a moc that is interior only and one that has both exterior and interior. Also, with the "wall techniques" segment, i don't think we shouldn't be restricting ppl to techniques that are currently in use - who knows, someone might come up with a fantastic new idea for wall textures and that should def count as a credit! Likewise with rockwork, trees and round towers - i feel the emphisis should be on producing variations on the theme, rather than just ticking the boxes of existing styles. For the Lanscape design discipline, i would also include snow/tundra and a catagory for "extreme environments" (lava, acidic pools, subterranean caverns etc) For the Hydrology discipline, i would include an underwater scene component - that's always a challenge! Also, i know ships and boats fall under trade at present, but i am tempted to say that they should be included in Hydrology instead? I'm not sure about that but i think it would be a shame for someone to graduate without having built a boat. (Showing my maritime bias i guess!) For the content-related disciplines, i do feel that millitary structures needs it's own section. Maybe with subjects like permanent fortifications, millitary camps/temporary fortifications, battle scenes and seige equipment (extra points for firing models!), maritime warfare? Also on the technical side, what do ppl think about a requirement for moving function(s) in at least one moc? know it might be out of some ppl's comfort zone (mine included!) but it would give graduates another string to thier bow. Anyway, that's all i can think of for now. I have to say, this program is looking really exciting, i hope it attracts lots of students! I'm better go and post my lecture theatre now btw - sorry it's so late guys! Quote
Gabe Posted October 19, 2013 Posted October 19, 2013 Ok, my Petraea University grand lecture theatre is up now! Hope you guys like it. Click the pic to go the topic. Quote

Besides, it could possibly lead to having allies in dark places (which is never bad in my opinion). So that is why so many Avalonians defected to Nocturnus... Quote
Gabe Posted October 20, 2013 Posted October 20, 2013 Oh and my apologies for forgetting to congratulate Kai on her first TBB blogging! That carriage was really clever, well deserved. Congrats to Sschmidt on yr new member of the family! Robuko, i for one would be very sad if you left Kaliphlin - your builds are always so inventive and surprising and i always look forward to seeing something new from you. Still, it's understandable if you need more time for your family. Quote
LegoDrake Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 Fellow Kaliphlinites Book 2 has started, be sure to check it out here. http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=86759 Quote
Kai NRG Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 Oh and my apologies for forgetting to congratulate Kai on her first TBB blogging! That carriage was really clever, well deserved. Thanks Gabe! What do you guys think about the challenge? I'm not really sure which side I'd rather be assigned to, but I don't plan on using my sig-fig either way. Might not manege to build for the third category but I should make the other two. Quote
Nightstalker Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 I'm only going for the smaller challenge. I definitely won't be using my sigfig unless I'm aiding the already established Nocturnus leads. However, if I am on the other side, I've got several evil characters lying around that could do it. Quote
NiceMarmot Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 I'm in. I'll definitely do category A (the small battle). After that, I'll probably try to do category C (the story build), and then B if I have time. Gex may or may not participate, but if he doesn't, hopefully another already-defined character (or a few) will. Quote
LegoDrake Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 I really like the way Book 2 is shaping up to be, letting builders with smaller collections still participate. I will definetly be doing A and possibly B. I plan on having Drakon take part in the battle of Nocturnus, mainly because he hasn't appeared much in Historica. Quote
Lord Vladivus Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 I really like the way Book 2 is shaping up to be, letting builders with smaller collections still participate. I will definetly be doing A and possibly B. I plan on having Drakon take part in the battle of Nocturnus, mainly because he hasn't appeared much in Historica. Aye, it's a great format! And on the subject of sig-figs not appearing much, Vladivus has only been in one small MOC so far. This will be his chance to shine! Especially as he has a shiny new (well, not really shiny!) outfit. Quote
Gabe Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 It's certainly nice having a few different catagories to build for - takes the pressure off having to make one thing perfect i reckon. I'll see how i go but i'd like to put something up for every catagory. As for personnel, not sure yet but i have a couple of new characters which i'm itching to introduce! Quote

Even though something tells me that I'm going to have to shell out an insane small build. Quote
SSchmidt Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 The diversity in book II is what has drawn me back in. The option to build different settings in different sized builds is all too enticing. Lots of freedom! By the way, that lecture theater is fantastic. What convention were you displaying it at? That wasn't brickcon, was it? Quote
SkaForHire Posted October 22, 2013 Author Posted October 22, 2013 Shameless bump: Section Five: Current Guild Challenges: Life and Death in Kaliphlin Open projects for all GOH members: Raising the Dead Part II Retracing our steps Raising the Dead Part III Family Heirloom Projects that are finished: Raising the Dead Part I Collecting the Pieces Global Challenge: Book II - Challenge I, Battle for Nocturnus ------------------------------------------- Also, even though I am not allowed to participate, if I get some building time and finish up the other builds I owe, perhaps GEAR will set up shop selling weapons to both sides... Gideon Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 Shameless bump: Section Five: Current Guild Challenges: Life and Death in Kaliphlin [...] Thanks for the reminder in the middle of the Ch 2.1 craze! I'll try to squeece out a build or two for the card mini-challenge when the rest of the family is up north visiting the grandparents next week Quote
