robuko Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 Looking great Gideon, I think the level of activity you have going on in the scene is about right as it is. Here's something I built for the Exo suit competition but which fits in here nicely too. Too late for mount up, The PGTC is delighted to present present the Duke's latest sweet ride. It's a little something he picked up in Nocturnus: Quote
BrickCurve Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 I thought i'd better update my picture and properly name my character. So without further ado may I present The lord Parimere of Anrarr. Quote
Gideon Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 (edited) Very nice sigfig BrickCurve! (Or should we in typical GoH manner start calling him BC ) That PoP torso looks very Kaliphlinesque, I've used a few for my Arkbri Falcons, and we have not seen that kind of shield very much as far as I can recall. Here's something I built for the Exo suit competition but which fits in here nicely too. Too late for mount up, The PGTC is delighted to present present the Duke's latest sweet ride. It's a little something he picked up in Nocturnus: Wow! That looks incredible! Can't wait to see high-res pictures of that Is that the frame of the official exo-suit...? Kai NRG Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 @Gideon, lookin' great! I think a cart and a rider or two will definitely do it on the street. The lighting looks really good! @robuko, that's around the exo-suit?! Wow! Quote
soccerkid6 Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 @Gideon: Looking amazing as always, you incorporated the sloping sections of the wall beautifully Quote
Scaevola Posted September 20, 2014 Posted September 20, 2014 (edited) New free build: A Sanguinary End. I'm also working on my Kaliphlin prologue build, which is shaping up to be fairly large and my new sigfig. EDIT: My new sigfig is done! New Sigfig by scaevola11, on Flickr Bio: Hlaesius Wydemon, Cardinal Archcurate of Barqa was the religious leader for the Ormaic Church in Barqa and its surrounding state. However, Wydemon was greatly disgraced in the city by his authoring of a petition advocating the institution of a more powerful presence of the church in Barqa and its surrounding eparchies. The Cardinal fled to Luxour, a city in the Chimeti Archipelago off Berigora where he continued his duties as archcurate. Wydemon's deft administration and ardent support for the advancement of the theocracy in the Orieqa Concordat, the principal republic of the archipelago and Luxour's state merited the interest of Primate Urban Hlaemeda VI, who appointed Wydemon to the College of Cardinals and as Abbot of Tournon in Luxour, making him a chief advisor of the Primate. His advocation of a new order subsequently waxed, and he is liable to question the dynasty that rules his home with his kinsmen in Quatarias' inefficient leadership to quell the Urgaul Pact insurgency. With this new personage, I intend to base many of my mocs in Luxour, a city which I aim to push through the HSS registry. Luxour will be tributary of Kaliphlin nestled in the midst of a lush oasis on the isle of Orieqa in the Chimeti Archipelago, a small island chain off the eastern coast. The metro is to be the seat of the Ormaic Church, a polytheistic triumvirate church, as well as a trading port famous for its exportation of silks, spices, and sugar. SarahJoy Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 Esteemed members of Kaliphlin, I wanted to make sure this location for Ruadh is acceptable: It's just east of the Crossroads Tower of Petraea, which overlooks the Queenscross and Oil Road crossroads. Quote
SarahJoy Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 Great, thanks Ska! In that case, I'd like to present Ruadh: An Illustrated Guide. Quote

It's just east of the Crossroads Tower of Petraea, which overlooks the Queenscross and Oil Road crossroads. Checked my maps, and it looks like that spot is available. It's a prime spot; those are busy crossroads. Quote
BrickCurve Posted September 23, 2014 Posted September 23, 2014 I was just wondering would these http://brickset.com/parts/4568957 be acceptable for a UoP roofing credit? Thanks in advance. Quote
SarahJoy Posted September 23, 2014 Posted September 23, 2014 Checked my maps, and it looks like that spot is available. It's a prime spot; those are busy crossroads. Awwesome, thanks! I was just wondering would these http://brickset.com/parts/4568957 be acceptable for a UoP roofing credit? Thanks in advance. I would guess not -- it seems too easy -- but I'm not one of the judging guildmembers, and I seem to have skewed way of seeing things. I'd suggest asking in the UoP topic, and also looking at all the roofing credits claimed in the Registrar topic, to see if someone has successfully claimed it in the past. Quote
robuko Posted September 23, 2014 Posted September 23, 2014 I was just wondering would these http://brickset.com/parts/4568957 be acceptable for a UoP roofing credit? Thanks in advance. Any part is acceptable, it just depends how you use them! If you can do a SNOT or upside down honeycomb ceiling I would certainly consider it. Studs up in a dome, nope. Quote
Kai NRG Posted September 23, 2014 Posted September 23, 2014 @Brick Curve, remember that you are trying to demonstrate mastery of roofing techniques (which is why three tries are required). So if you do something anyone (with a moderate artistic taste and a dash of patience) just walking up to a bin of LEGO could do, it's not going to cut it. On the other had, you can often use pieces like that very creatively! And if you use the dome for the very top of your roof but the rest is a complicated series of SNOT curves, it will probably make the cut as well. Quote

Yzalirk Posted September 24, 2014 Posted September 24, 2014 I feel like I'm late to ask this but is Kaliphlin also based off of areas like Ancient Greece and Rome? I need to know this really bad for future projects that could potentially be in Kaliphlin. It worries me seeing builds looking more like the Middle East for the most part. Quote
Kayne Posted September 24, 2014 Posted September 24, 2014 Not sure if it's ever been stated one way or another. But, I would think those coastal areas(especially Greece) make sense as inspiration for Kaliphlin builds. Quote
Yzalirk Posted September 24, 2014 Posted September 24, 2014 Any specific locations that would be appropriate for this? Quote
SarahJoy Posted September 24, 2014 Posted September 24, 2014 I feel like I'm late to ask this but is Kaliphlin also based off of areas like Ancient Greece and Rome? I need to know this really bad for future projects that could potentially be in Kaliphlin. It worries me seeing builds looking more like the Middle East for the most part. Most of the builds do tend to have a Middle Eastern Flavor, as I'm sure you noticed when you joined Kali, but Kaliphlin's not limited to that. Kali also incorporates anything Eastern or Asian in style; I recall a Japanese-inspired Kali build. Ancient Roman/Greek architecture could definitely be used in Avalonia or Kaliphlin, which would have Roman influences, architecturally, (in fact, there is already talk of a few Greco-Roman-style buildings in Ruadh's future) and possibliy in Mitgardia or Nocty; not sure. Quote
Lord Vladivus Posted September 24, 2014 Posted September 24, 2014 I know Ska was looking at a Greek theme for the Kali civil war. Varylio tends to be a bit more Mediterranean, but I look at it as more Renaissance. Greek/Roman influences certainly fit best in Kali, although I could easily get some of them into the other guilds. Play around a bit, there not that many Greek/Roman-esque builds around! Quote
SkaForHire Posted September 24, 2014 Author Posted September 24, 2014 We had a few members that only made greek looking builds a long time ago. When it was all decided, Kaliphlin was basically everything that was not Northern European, dark fantasy and perhaps Subsaharan Africa. Although we do have Jungles. The main culture groups were actually Arab, Mediterranean, north African, and East Asian. Just the greek influence has been quite light as of lately. Quote
mccoyed Posted September 24, 2014 Posted September 24, 2014 IIRC the accepted "flavor" of Kaliphlin is "Mediterranean" which includes The Middle East as well as classical Greco-Roman as referents. As those cultures and styles intermingled and coexisted for thousands of years before the High Middle Ages, it makes sense that there'd be a cosmopolitan emphasis on its architecture to say nothing of costuming, custom, and institutional structures. Really good subsets of the general "flavor" to research/take note of: NOTE: These are loose, archetypal labels commonly seen in various fantasy media. An historian would be able to provide a wealth of such with a lot more detail and inspiration from real world sources. As with all the Guilds, there are few strict limitations on landscapes. I've included the more Mediterranean, common stuff usually featured in Kali builds. It's true that there are also mountainous regions, swamps, badlands, forests, and probably other subtropical or outright tropical biomes. Crusader-era Middle East (The Holy Land) -probably the single largest and clearest influence on Kali builds Moorish/Muslim Spain -sandy-colored buildings in stone, "unusual" shapes of towers and castles in Kali builds -lighthouses, pirates, coastal regions Hellenic civilization (Alexander the Great) -some naming conventions seem derived from this (Petraea) -marble Ancient Egypt (Pharoahic and Hellenic)/North African -Mummies! -pyramids, sphinxes, "sand" color scheme Bedouin (desert nomads) -Gideon's merchant builds -turbans, headscarves, and "desert" style are common in Kali builds -oasis locations Roman Empire -Lego stuff derived from this is more common in Kali builds -marble (white lego) is associated with Roman architecture Quote
