also, i know this is a bit far fetched, but... my favorite comic book western character is getting his own movie in 2008 or 09, jonah hex.

ASW11FC_OO_20385_CGC.jpg

LEGO has licensed DC properties already (batman), if the movie is sucessful and geared toward a younger audience, we could hope to see a license. now, i know LEGO usually only handels super popular properties, spongebob, spiderman, batman, etc... but they have been known to do some lesser known titles, like avatar (what is that anyway ??? :-P ).

I think - like you already mentioned - that TLC only released, releases and even will release products of very famous and successful movies. So a license of the movie you mentioned is - like you already mentioned, too - from today's point of view not very realistic.

But I even wouldn't like to see so much some movie based and licensed WW sets - that'll be - like with all licensed products - very delimitating for their playability. OK, I'm an AFOL and so playabilty isn't the first criterion for me - the look, the which is included in the set?, the characters, the price and the how well is it done? is much more relevant - but nevertheless it's a criterion for me. Ad another criterion - mainly for brickfilm fans - is that you can poorly use licensed sets for making a brickfilm because firstly you might get troube and secondly because the characters, buildings, landscapes, ... are so established and afficted with certain expectations that you wouldn't take much pleasure in using these characters, buildings, landscapes, ... for own WW brickfilms. (I'm betimes producing some brickfilms, too.)

To conclude: I'd prefer some non-licensed WW sets but would be of course even glad to get some licensed WW sets because better getting WW sets based on movies/cartoons/books than getting no new WW sets!

Here I'm again after a long time.

And here are two ltille new ideas for two little new WW Impulse sets:

Indian Impulse Set

including a canoe, a bow, a quiver, an axe, a lance and a buckler

minifig: Indian

Soldier Impulse Set

including a cannon, three cannonballs, two revolvers, a rifle, a binocular and a saber

minifig: soldier

What do you think? Any new ideas or comments?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

By the way: Brick Miner, isn't it time to show us one of your WW MOCs in the next days? *sweet* - I know I can't await it :-D I'm already very anxious about what you'll present us this time!

A new idea:

Hold-Up At The Old Man's Grave

a little graveyard with a black fence, a big tree and a big grave that can be opened

including a horse, some gold pieces, a red jewel, five bats, two owls and a black falcon

minifigs: skeletton, ghost, the robbers' boss and a cowboy

And your ideas?!

Posted

My idea would be "Indians stopping a train (iron horse)." Few indian riding horses and a train with two passengers cart, including a couple of cowboys trying to stop the indians.

That would be a great idea, Mile85!

But I think that - like it was discussed some time ago in another topic - TLG wouldn't release a set with figthing Indians against Whites in the same set because it could be interpreted as discrimination of Indians.

Since there are these of AFOLs designed space sets coming out this April and Grand Admiral wrote the following

I can tell you that there will be more fan-made sets in the future, so eventually a theme you like will show up.

(source: http://eurobricks.hosting.ipsyn.com/eurofo...c=15737&st=180)

I thought: Perhaps it however might be possible that we'll get one or two WW sets in the future. If TLG engages Brick Miner and some other great WW MOCers Lego would get a great flash of inspiration and would be able to release amazing WW sets.

For I don't think that WW is more unpopular than Pirates. In contrast - I think AFOLs as well as JFOLs would very well like a comeback of the WW theme. And - apart from the big ships in the Pirate theme - I'm convinced that kids really would like WW sets as well as Pirates. And since TLG most of the time argues with the likes and dislikes of kids for special sets and themes this is the most basic! I'd say it only depends on how the set looks like, how much playability you include in a set and how much ad you make for it.

So what are your ideas and positions concerning this?

KD: if you mention Brick Miner's Ghost Town one more time without drawing any attention to Grave Stone, I'm not going to be your partner any more. :-( .

PS. And that goes for Piranha to. ;-)

Hey, what I'd do?

I certainly would like BM to design some of his Ghost town MOCs into sets produced by TLC!

Brickster I can't imagine whatever put that idea into your mind

:-P

Seriously, I'll try to make your Ghost Town look better from now on X-D

EDIT:

Excuse me, TheBrickster! :'-(

It wasn't meant like you perhaps understood it. I wrote "If TLG engages Brick Miner and some other great WW MOCers [...]" - so you certainly were included, too *sweet* ! I only didn't know the names of all WW MOCers here on EB anymore and was too lazy to look them up and write them all down. So I choosed to take only the name of Brick Miner because he was the one of which the last WW MOCs were here presented. But - like already mentioned - you and all the other great WW MOCers should of course get the chance to work together with Lego, too, since your MOCs are brilliant!

I know that this isn't a good excuse but ... :-/

So, are you going to be my partner any more or not? ;-)

Oh, I'm just teasing KD. BrickMiner and I have had this friendly competion going on for some time now, as we both enjoy the Ghost Town sub-theme. No problem at all. ;-)

As some would say on this board, Partner On!

I have got two new ideas for WW Impulse sets:

Ghost Cowboy

including a black skeletton horse with saddle, a gun , two revolvers and a brick-buit tree with a bat

minifig: ghost cowboy with shiny head

Cowboy

including a brown horse (with saddle), a gun, two revolvers, a lasso and a shrub

minifig: cowboy

By the way: There is a very interesting poll made by one of our ambassadors about which theme you (would  ) prefer - WW or Ninja.

I hope you vote for the right one  ! (I of course voted for WW and wrote a comment, too.)

Here are my two ideas:

Silver Dollar Saloon: $20.00 with 251 peices

A saloon and hotel featuring a piano, an upstairs with two rooms, and a wagon. Minifigs: Two bandits, Sheriff, Gambler, Bartender, and Dancer.

The Last Showdown: $50.00 with 534 peices

The final showdown between the Sheriff and the Bandit featuring two western buildings, a wagon and two horses. Minifigs: Sheriff, Bandit, and two townsfolk.

More ideas coming soon!

That are great ideas, Flatfoot Thompson!

I especially like the piano in the saloon - that's something completely new and "The Last Showdown" is a very interesting and exciting title!

I've got a new idea for the Ghost Town subtheme :skull: :

Attack On The Rangers' Camp (19,99-24,99 Euro)

-----

Two rangers exploring the Wild West set up their camp on the foot of a rocky landscape. They inflame a camping fire and have diner. The sun went under in the meantime and they make ready for getting to bed. But suddenly they hear a fearsome noice: Two horrible figures approach the rangers' camp. It's a ghost with a sable in the hand and a ghost/skeletton cowboy with his gun. Are the rangers able to fight and beat these creatures?

-----

a tent with a camping fire and a rock with a secret place to hide the gold and some shrubs as landscape

including a barrel, a box, a banana, an apple, a leg of mutton, two tumblers, two cups, a snake, four gold pieces, a shovel, an axe, a pickaxe, a hammer, an oil lamp, some weaponry and a brown and a black horse

minifigs: a young ranger, an old ranger, a ghost (which glows in the dark) and a ghost/skeletton cowboy

What do you think? Some new ideas, too? :sweet:

Strike one bandit, the gambler, bartender and dancer, and I'd say you're about right. When was the last time you saw six figures in a $20 set. I guess about 1 figure per $10 of price, is a safe bet.

The Last Showdown: $50.00 with 534 peices

The final showdown between the Sheriff and the Bandit featuring two western buildings, a wagon and two horses. Minifigs: Sheriff, Bandit, and two townsfolk.

Sounds good to me. If this is the biggest set, toss in an exclusive figure, like the dancer, to gin up interest.

Since I read this I was and am totally :sweet: because I think it is obvous that Wild West will win, isn't it?!

A new WW theme - or at least some additional buildings and vehicles - would be absolutely    !

This consequently means for us now: Building as many WW buildings in LDD as possible and of course other WW MOCs, too, to show TLG that it would make sense to bring back the WW theme - even if it is only in Lego.Factory  !

You can see my first WW LDD MOC here and I plan to design more. So what about you? :sweet:

I browsed throught the web and found that:

Oil derrick

Isn't that amazing?! :oh:

If TLG would release a set like this - that would be absolutely   ! Of course it wouldn't be as big and detailed as this one and it would be necseeary to include some action elements (for better playability :hmpf: ). But with some explosion mechanism it would be surely a great set. Perhaps like this:

Oil Derrick

an oil derrick with a little barrack (with a table with two chairs and a big box)

includes a mechanism that the oil derrick collapses

including some barrels, some tools, a simple carriage (to carry the barrels), four gold pieces, a map, a brown horse for the carriage, a white horse and some weapons

minifigs: oil company's boss, two workers, coachman and two bandits

What do you think? :sweet:

That's not right. But I only browse the City, History&Adventures, Star Wars, News&General Discussions and the Embassy subforums - in the other subforums I'm mostly not interested. I don't understand why SirNadroj didn't post it in the History&Adventurs subforum since it's a Western MOC. :sceptic:

But thank you very much for your hint!:sweet:

Since there was this poll of TLG sent to their customers if they want Western, animals or robots as a new Factory theme and since copmike was so nice to transfer our wish to get new WW sets to TLG I'm oiptimistic and I think that there will be some new WW sets in the future. But since Pirates will come out next year I think we won't have to expect some new WW sets before 2010.

What do you think? :sweet:

Hello everybody! :sweet:

Things changed a bit. So here a summary for everything which would make a new Western theme possible:

1. The Western cap, horses and saddles are already there.

2. This year we got (with the Police theme) grilles.

3. This year there were (with the IJ theme) guns, revolvers and hats reintroduced.

4. Next year there will be (with the new great Pirates theme) canons reintroduced.

5. The Dwarves Mine set included some BURPs.

6. The Green Grocer set included the Indian feathers.

=> The only things which are missing are torsos and wooden pieces - and if there shall be a new Indian subtheme, too (which would in my opinion be very welcome), bricks and a tarpaulin for the tents, a canoe, Indian hairpieces and the chief's "crown" is missing.

=>Regarding the molds, there is nothing which speaks against a new Western theme.

I bet if TLG hopefully reintroduces the Western theme we'll (firstly) only see a bank, a sheriff's office and hopefully some other buildings TLG missed in the former Wild West them (like a saloon, a train station with train, a post station with stage coach and a farm) - meaning everything you firstly think of when thinking about cowboys. Soldiers and Indians are at that point when TLG will reintroduces the WW theme not to expect since they're not the first thing of which kids seem to think about when thinking about the WW (and JFOLs are their main interest and argument) and since all new themes include - except for City and SW - a very limited number of sets per year. And if the Western theme is reintroduced (firstly) in the form of Factory then there surely won't be more than only two sets (like this year's Factory Space exclusives). Consequently the most supposably buildings which we would have to await are a bank and a sheriff's office - but if they sell well (which I really bet althought I think that for saling bigger masses of these sets a general non-exclusive sale would be better) we surely would get some more WW sets in a complete new theme.

Since there was - like already mentioned above in my last post - a poll from one of our ambassadors whether we would prefer Western or Ninja and since Lego S@H mailed all their customers a poll whether they'd like Western, Animals or Robots as a new Factory theme, I stay optimistic.

Since there was the more classic "Castle" line (which has nothing to do with the really classic and great Castle sets from the farer past) introduced in 2007 and there'll be the great reintroducement of Pirate sets in 2009, I think we'll regrettably have to wait until 2011. But then it's consequential that TLG will offer us a new Western theme (or at least some exclusive Western sets) since the four subthemes which "History & Adventure" contained until now were Castle (new in 2007), Pirates (new in 2009), Adventures (is imo at the moment impossible since the IJ theme includes too many parallels to it) and Western (hopefully then in 2011).

What do you think? Do you find this reasoning comprehensible, coherent and promising or not?

Hello everybody! :sweet:

TheBrickster pointed out a very interesting fact which I want to discuss here (and not in this his topic since this topic is mainly about something else.

So here you are:

Playmobil Western Sets

[---]

Here's one of the newer Western Sets from last year:

4130cowboy.jpg

Wild West Mystery

This Playmobil set is simple - but excellent!

I think it would be for TLG a try to release some sets similar to that one, too, in order to test whether it would make sense (which I really do not doubt) to release a new WW theme.

Of course there are some points when you look at this Playmobil set that have to be changed when turning it into a Lego set which should take interest in JFOLs (which are apparently the main audience):

1. The number of minifigs must be increased - only one gold washer is too less! E. g. adding minimum one more gold washer.

2. There has to be minimum one building added to this scene! E. g. adding the gold washers' hut. Or a tipi for the Indians.

3. For kids action elements seem to be very important. But they are missing here - so there should be added one action element! E. g. a rock which falls downward into the canyon for the Indians' defense. Or a rope bridge which either dandles or which has a hole through which you can fall.

Only some ideas here.

But I'd sure that - if TLG does releases new WW sets in a style, in a design and with contents similar to the old theme of 1996/96 but making them more attractive (with e. g. designing two floors big buildings, releasing a stage coach and a train with train station, ...) then - TLG would surely have success with these new sets since JFOLs which don't know the old theme will like the new theme like they like every other adventure/historical theme - and AFOLs which still know about the old WW theme (me included!) will be very enthusiatic about this theme and really like to add some new sets to their collection (me, too!) or when they already have kids which play with Lego these parents would surely buy them these new sets and love to see how happy their kids are when playing with all these new (and old) WW sets.

It would perhaps be a bit too risky to throw lots and lots of new Western sets on the market. But a careful try with only a few sets (like TLG does with the new (mainly) great Pirates sets this year) would be worth a try! And when Playmobil seems to sell its Western set(s) very well - then why shouldn't TLG, too?!

That's how I see it.

And which is your opinion? Comments are welcome! :sweet: (I do really not want to hold soliloquies! )

Another possible small Western set: the Pony Express. With some riders, some horses and an office.

Inspired by this set, where you can see a Pony Express building at the left.

I have watched the Into the West miniseries, where Abe Wheeler was a rider of the Pony Express. That DVD may be a great source of inspiration for a set.

Posted

That's a great idea, Richie!

I, too, really would like to see a pony express with some riders, some horses and an office.

Plus their might be some sort of Impulse set or very small sets which includes a pony express rider with his horse and a letter this rider has to deliver.

Or what about some forest landscape or desert landscape or steppe lanscapes, a pony express rider who has to deliver a very important and secret letter and some bandits or Indians which attack him?
