Ch II: Team Simon: Cat C: Over the River and Through the W

Yes, everyone seems to love the axe . That makes me quite happy I was really happy with the hill myself. Some ebay auctions and PAB trips means I finally had enough bricks and plates to pull it off. -
I struggled with the ground. I wanted it open enough for the wedding pictures, but I also didn't want it bare. I tried to strike that balance by adding more greenary on the ground along the path. I didn't want to add stones to the path because I wanted it to seem like a well kept garden, and what gardener would allow pebbles and stones to be scattered across his freshly raked dirt path? But maybe I should have added some "stones" amongst the greenary along the path. Thanks!

Thanks Gunman! Do you have some examples of the vertical wood supports? I'm not sure if you mean built into the walls or SNOT'd onto the outside. -

Thanks guys! Good! I'm glad you like it! Yeah, I like how it came together. I'll probably continue that style in more buildings for my city. Yes, I thought about that too. Any suggestions for improving it? -

Glad you all like the trees! I've been working on perfecting my tree making abilities and still have a long way to go. Part of it is my shortage of Lego foliage. I've been building up my collection at the PAB wall, but almost every tree piece I own so far was used in this build I was less than pleased with the square shape as well, but I lack the tree pieces to round it out more. I tried to make up for it with pictures that hid the squareness of it, but obviously I couldn't hid it completely . I'm glad you like the axe, I do too! -

Thank you! I had fun working with the different angles on the walls using all the Mines of Moria slopes I've collected. Thanks! Glad you like it Probably as much as I look forward to seeing more of Vladivus' story! -
Thanks guys! Well, the guards are acting as witnesses to the wedding so the direction they're facing is to be excused That was the general idea behind the hairpiece . Yes, we aren't all barbarians . Thanks Gunman!

Thanks HammerBro! I only wish I had a dark bley head to go inside. The black worked ok though Thanks! I've been fiddling with the globe stand idea for a long time. Finally got it to look the way I wanted it to Thanks! I was a little dubious about it myself, but I'm glad the idea has fans!

Thank you! Thanks! I found those boxes in the PAB wall at my Lego store and just had to pick up a dozen to use for this Thanks everyone! I've been planning the semi-circle part for a long time. Glad you all like the finished product I'm glad someone else knows their history! I used the same character in my GNAR build, but no one seemed to pick up on the connection then.

Thanks! I want to find more uses for the weapons that come in that small poly bag that Lego seems to through into random sets. Yes, such is the nature of Lego. Either you get studs, or you get smooth tiles. Since I don't have any of the sticker'd wood-grain tiles, I chose the regular flat look Thanks! That roof took a little while to figure out. It only works with a small incline, but at least it works Thank you Gunman! -

MOCs, how much do they end up costing?
MKJoshA replied to psdillon's topic in General LEGO Discussion
It really was just me wanting it to be under $30. I didn't actually run any previous calculations besides the "oh, it should be about that much" thoughts. There were a couple specific pieces I needed in higher quantities so I went through the first few shops that had those plus the other pieces I needed and ended up shopping from 2 stores totally $60 between the 2. I guess the only thing I could have done better was shop around more but that would have taken so much more time and I already had put a couple hours into it. -

The Mitgardian banner was a welcome sight for the travelers who had to be very careful traversing the lands of Avalonia. They saw many Drow patrols and passed many ruined villages along the way. However, they managed to escape any more large scale attacks themselves. The rest of their journey through Mitgardia was uneventful, though Wyndor noticed a slightly haggard look on the faces of the villagers they passed. They arrived in Aalborg on a quiet evening and walked up to the gate of the house of Graham. “Ho there from some weary travelers. We seek shelter for the night!” called out Wyndor. The gatekeeper bumbled out from the guard house muttering under his breathe, obviously upset about having to deal with travelers after the evening torches had already been lit. But when he got to the gate his eyes lit up. “Master Wyndor! It has been an age since you were last home! My how you’ve grown, please come in, come in.” He said as opened the gate and admitted the weary travelers. They were greeted with cries of joy, slaps on the arm, and hugs from the servants who tended the house of Graham. Graham himself came out from his study demanding to know what was disturbing his reading. When he saw his sons he cried out and grabbed them all in a big bear-hug. Wyndor introduced Graham to Valanice and there were tears in his eyes as he greeted his daughter-in-law. He turned to Wyndor, “You have done well my son. Thank you for bringing everyone home safely. I wish Tagaler could be here, but I know there is nothing you could have done to prevent that disaster.” Graham looked away for a moment and then continued, “But come, let us talk of more joyous things!” They talked late into the night laughing at the stories the brothers told of each other on their many adventures since the ice-dragon. Wyndor and Valanice stayed in Aarlborg for a week enjoying the peace life was affording them. The days following that week though, Wyndor woke up each morning thinking about all the unrest he had seen across Historica. He had been in the middle of a war in both Nocturnus and Avalonia and had seen division even in Kaliphlin as they strove to be better than their northern neighbors. He knew that Mitgardia had issues of its own and it seemed to him that it was only a matter of time before war struck his beloved guild. He decided to take the matter up with his father. “You are quiet right my son, war is on our doorstep” began Graham. “Ever since the Jarl went missing there has been a power vacuum in Mitgardia that has not been properly filled. Yes, things seem quiet on the outside here, but there is much turmoil.” “So, if war is inevitable, what can I do to make sure Mitgardia does not falter when our time comes?” asked Wyndor. “Well, I would ask you to help me here in Aarlborg. With all of your experience from traveling throughout Historica you could teach the militia here quite a few things, I’m sure” replied Graham. “I sense a “but” somewhere in there” said Wyndor. “Yes, you would be helpful to me here, but I have another course of action I’m going to recommend to you for two reasons. First, I already have a well-trained militia stationed here in Aarlborg. While you could teach them much more, I’m afraid there are too many other cities in Mitgardia who need your help more than my men do.” “You said there was a 2nd reason, what is it?” asked Wyndor. “It’s funny we should be having this conversation today because the 2nd reason is that I just received a letter from a Pjeter asking about you” said Graham. “Do I know a Pjeter?” asked Wyndor. “It seems you offered him your services if ever he should need them back during the dark time of Victor Revolword” replied Graham. “Ah! Pjeter! Now I remember, he helped me get to Northridge when I first set out on my journey” exclaimed Wynodr. “What is that old dog up to now?” “It seems he has done quite well for himself and has become mayor of the city of Dålig Ulv” answered Graham. “That’s one of the major trade centers for the Wolf Clans just east of Erikson right?” “That’s right,” said Graham. “It has remained a quiet and unassuming city even though many of the goods that get shipped out of Erikson usually pass through Dålig Ulv first. All of the clansmen from the Wolf Clans bring their wares to the city and so do most of the dwarves who mine in the western side of Mt. Mitgard. Pjeter has written asking you to aid him on the city council. There are some changes happening in the city and seems that not all of them are good. He remembers you as being an honest and brave man and wants your help.” “That’s quite the request coming from someone I haven’t seen for such a long time. What do you think Father?” asked Wyndor. “Is this something you think I should pursue? Will I be able to do some good there?” “I would advise you to go to Dålig Ulv” answered Graham. “There will be many opportunities for you to use the skills you have gained as well as to learn some new ones. Who knows? Maybe you will be able to effect some positive change on the western half of our guild.” It was settled. Over the next few days Wyndor and Valanice prepared to move north. Natolyth and Chalin heard about their plans and were none too happy that the brother trio was about to be broken up after so recently being reunited. They announced that they were going to be moving with the couple. Graham was sad to see his family move on so quickly after returning home, but Wyndor was thrilled that he would have the help of his brothers in whatever adventures lie ahead of him. To Be Continued in Chapter 2!

They still had about 5 miles to go before they reached Beleriand and were determined to get there that night. Before leaving Kaliphlin, Valanice had written her Uncle to let him know when to expect her and that she was bringing visitors. Riders from the Earl met them on the road just as the last traces of daylight were slipping away. He had grown worried that his niece had not arrived when planned and had sent out some of his men to see if Valanice had run into any trouble. He had heard about the recent Drow attacks all throughout Avalonia and had even had to help some of the neighboring Earl’s deal with some of their own attacks. They road into the Earl’s fortress with a clatter of hooves and the clank of a barred and locked gate behind them. The Earl was there to greet them as they dismounted by the stables. “Uncle Richard!” proclaimed Valanice, “I’m so glad we made it safely!” “Yes, I was quiet worried about you.” responded Richard, “Since you left the situation throughout Avalonia has grown more dangerous than you can imagine. I tried to send riders to meet you at the Kaliphlin border, but something happened to them and I fear the worst for their fate.” “It seems we have much to catch up on, but first, allow me to introduce the three sons of Graham who have escorted me from Kaliphlin: Wyndor, Natolyth, and Chalin” said Valanice. “I have much to thank you for sons of Graham,” stated Richard. “I have no daughters of my own you see, so Valanice is like the daughter I never had. I am very thankful for the protection you have provided her. And now you must rest, I have much to tell my niece.” “Uh, Sir Earl, sir,” Wyndor started to say. “No, there is no need for more words tonight. We will talk more in the morning” responded Richard. With that he whisked Valanice away and motioned for some servants to show the brothers to their room. Valanice looked over her shoulder at Wyndor and mouthed: “We’ll talk later.” Wyndor had no other choice but to follow the servants. When they got to their room Chalin and Natolyth went straight to bed, barely even bothering to take off their boots they were so tired from the battle that morning. Wyndor, on the other hand, stayed up sitting at the window watching the shadows. He could see a corner of a window of the great room where he assumed Richard and Valanice were discussing the events of the past week. Eventually he nodded off. He woke up early the next morning to find Richard standing over his bed. “Let’s go for a walk, you and I,” he told Wyndor. They walked around the inner perimeter of the wall surrounding the manor and a few other buildings that served as the Earl’s estate. “How’s Valanice?” Wyndor asked trying to start some conversation. “She is exhausted from the journey and a late night discussion about why I should let you marry her” Richard responded abruptly. “Well, I was hoping to ask for your permission first, but, well, you see…” Wyndor started. “But real life got in the way” responded Richard. “I do understand how that can happen you know. I’m not one to shoot a crossbow bolt at every man who comes to the doorstep.” “Well that’s a relief” said Wyndor. “So why don’t you tell me why you love my niece?” stated Richard. They had ended up on one of the elevated walkways that ran across various parts of the estate. Wyndor spent the next hour going into detail about why he loved Valanice and how he planned to care for her. Richard was impressed with Wyndor’s passion, but more than that, he was impressed with how much Wyndor had thought through all the details for caring for Valanice. “Wyndor,” started Richard, “I can tell that you will take care of my niece and I can give the two of you my blessing. But, you must promise me one thing.” “What’s that?” asked Wyndor. “You must take Valanice away from Avalonia as quickly as possible. I’m afraid that the Drow you met on the road yesterday are just the first of many to attack these lands. I have been reinforcing the defenses of Beleriand and my manor, but it may not be enough. I fear for the safety of my people and I do not want to have to fear for hers also” said Richard. “If Valanice agrees, we can have the ceremony today and you can leave first thing in the morning for Mitgardia.” “You have my word that I will put her life before mine, always” stated Wyndor. The rest of the morning was spent making plans and that afternoon Wyndor and Valanice were married. Their witnesses were Wyndor’s two brothers and Richard’s honor guard. It was a simple ceremony which Richard oversaw himself. Never before in Historica had there been two people happier to be together that day than Wyndor and Valanice.

While it had been some time since the three brothers had been together, Natolyth and Chalin were not surprised by his behavior. While Wyndor did not ignore Chalin, it was Natolyth who got him up to speed with what had happened since the ice-dragon accident. Wyndor’s words were mostly spent on Valanice. “Did it hurt?” asked Wydnor. “Did what hurt?” responded Valanice. “Did it hurt when you fell from heaven?” grinned Wyndor. “You’re company is more pleasant when you are less foolish” answered Valanice, but Wyndor noticed that she couldn’t stop from smiling. “I hate to interrupt you two love birds,” piped Chalin, “But how much longer did you say we have until we reach your home, Valanice?” “We should be there by late afternoon” answered Valanice. “I only ask because we have not met many travelers today and the reports I heard at that last village, of Drow movement, make me very nervous” explained Chalin. “While in Kaliphlin I never meet any Drow, but I heard plenty of tales from travelers about the horrors they’ve wreaked throughout Nocturnus. And things have to be pretty bad for reports like those to make it out of Nocturnus.” “I know these are more dangerous times than most for Avalonia,” started Valanice, “But I suspect that your worries are unfounded. Most of these smaller villages thrive on rumors. Anything from Drow attacks, to plagues, to vampire dukes will keep the local’s conversation occupied for days. And besides, we are traveling through Lesser Burrium, one of the best guarded lands in Avalonia.” “With all the talking you and Wyndor have done,” started Natolyth, “shall I quiz him to see if he can spout off facts like that?” “Why Natolyth!” inserted Wyndor, “I shall not have to spout off anything, I will simply recite from my perfect memory of everything Lady Valanice has said about her fair country. We are currently traveling through Lesser Burrium on our way to Woodward which is near the Darkwood Forest next to the Western Grasslands. Woodward is currently ruled by Lord Faustus but we are going to visit Valanice’s uncle who is the Duke of Beleriand.” “You have been listening,” Valanice said, “at least mostly.” “My lady,” implored Wyndor, “you have had my full attention this entire time. Whatever could I have missed?” “Well,” started Valanice, “my Uncle, the Earl of Beleriand, might take offense at you calling him by the wrong title.” “Ah!” cried Wyndor, “Duke, Earl, Lord, High All-Powerful Master; all these titles seem so unnecessary!” In Mitgardia either you are the mayor of the town or you’re not; and either you have authority or you don’t. Though, being mayor and having authority don’t always go hand-in-hand so I guess we do have some of our own complications” Wyndor ended sheepishly. All of a sudden they heard the sound of pounding footsteps and the swish of cloaks to their left. As they turned to look, their horses spooked and threw all four of them to the ground. The pounding and swishing grew louder as Wyndor started to lift himself off the ground. Looking around he saw everyone moving and said, “Is everyone ok?” “I think we are, but I don’t think we will be, look!” shouted Natolyth. He pointed at the group of cloaked figures running through the forest at them. A dark figure with white hair could be seen directing the attackers from the rear. Three assailants leaped over the stream and engaged the travelers in battle. “I told you something didn’t feel right!” shouted Chalin, “I was trained for battles remember? The air always feels different right before an attack!” He was shouting to be heard over the clanging of steel on steel, but other than that noise the battle was fairly quiet. The Drow assailants were attacking without making a sound themselves. “I’ll remember to apologize after we get out of this alive!” answered Valanice as she blocked a blow meant for Wyndor’s head. She found it eerie to be fighting such silent attackers. She had never met a Drow before, let alone fought one, and found the experience to be one she never wanted to repeat. Battles were meant to involve battle-cries and grunts she had learned while watching her Uncle’s men train at the barracks. Even training with her Uncle, who was a lot more sophisticated than the average soldier, involved more noise than these Drow emitted. Natolyth did not find the Drow’s silence unnerving as he had come in contact with many of them while he was brainwashed. In fact, as he shot some thunderbolts at one of the Drow, he thought he could learn a thing or two from their fighting style. Wyndor swung his sword at a Drow wielding two wicked looking blades but was blocked, as every one of his blows had been. “These Drow are very powerful, how are we ever going to get out of this?” Wyndor wondered to himself. His next thought jumped into his mind like a lightning bolt and had many of the same effects, “I’m in love with Valanice!” “Valanice!” shouted Wyndor as he blocked a blow, “I love you!” “Wyndor!” shouted back Valanice, “I love you too!” Wyndor was in rare form now spinning, ducking, and slashing with more grace than he ever had before. He disarmed one opponent and sent another one sprawling who had been attacking Chalin and then asked, “Will you marry me?” Time seemed to stand still as Valanice turned to Wyndor and said, “Yes.” After a few more zaps and parries, all of the Drow turned and ran off into the forest. Chalin looked around and found no sign of the leader on the other side of the stream. “I guess they decided we were more trouble than we were worth” he said. “Nay, my dear brother, it was love that saved the day” responded Wyndor as he and Valanice gazed into each other’s eyes. “Well lover boy, think what you want, but I think we need to get to Beleriand and warn the Earl” retorted Chalin. “It’s going to be a lot longer of a journey now” said Natolyth. “Our horses have run off and I don’t think they have any intentions of returning.” With a long walk ahead of them they set off towards what they hoped would be safety.
