SarahJoy Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 Also, could I build a small shop or few in Ruadh? I was thinking on maybe a Smithing shop, an Alchemy shop, a Magic shop, and/or a Woodworking shop. If I can, I'll be doing them in a small vignette style, just how like to make most builds. While a blacksmith or alchemy shop would be welcome in Ruadh, I'd need more than just a vignette (they're fine for establishing storylines, but they're not ideal for establishing settlements) and I'd need clear assurance beforehand that your build/storyline in Ruadh works with my own GoH goals/storyline. Maxim I (with his herald's shop), Robuko (with his vibrant gallery), and Mike S (with his Aslanic Temple) have done an excellent job of establishing a baseline for pre-planning and quality of guest builds in Ruadh. Rogue Angel Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 192 posts - that's a lot of words for a single moc ... I assume you're talking to me, as usual. If you're just trying to start something, I don't really see the reason why and if you want to see my MOCs, you'll have to wait in line. Like I've said, when I get my orders I will have a MOC or two up each week and/or weekend. As a general rule, we typically ask that members post at most twice a day in the Guild threads (as in twice a day in the Kaliphlin Guild thread or twice a day in the Avalonia Guild thread. Feel free to post as much as you want in all other GoH threads i.e. MOC threads, Challenge threads, etc. you can post 100 times a day in all the combined GoH threads if you want.) The majority of the members here visit every few days to every week or two. They tend to check out the guild threads to see what's been going on. The more activity there is in a thread, the more likely people are to just skim it instead of reading every post. They are also less likely to respond to a conversation that was going on a few pages back. So, when there are an excessive number of posts, the posts don't get read and new conversations don't continue. This tends to be a deterrant for members, and they tend to not post as much, or just skip that thread all together. For people like myself, I will usually only have 5 minutes to flip through a thread, so if there has been multiple pages since I last checked, I will just wait until the next time I'm on, and this will stack up until I get an extended period of time to read. Gideon Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 (edited) As a general rule, we typically ask that members post at most twice a day in the Guild threads. That sounds like a good rule, I agree that there is too much discussion and too few builds in this thread at the moment Specific discussions with a lot of posts are maybe better to keep in their own forum or PM threads. From my side it's been fueled by having a lot of time but not present at my bricks, so I've spent way too much time on the forum the past weeks. Now when I'm back with my bricks I'm putting more time into building and less into reading the forum every half-hour Hopefully this was my last discussion post of today, my next post will hopefully be two small freebuilds I'm off to photograph now! Yzalirk Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 (edited) I will try to limit my posts in Kaliphlin to a few everyday, sorry guys. Also, nice build, Gabe. And Thomas, that shield was awarded to the winners of that boat challenge in case you haven't found out. Gideon Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 Two small freebuilds from some experiments which turned out good enough to merit a small build each. So happy to be back building again! Quote
Hobbythom Posted September 1, 2014 Posted September 1, 2014 I really like the fully loaded camels Gideon. If the postman finds my house I'll recieve my first camel today. Your small build is agreat inspiration. Quote

Kayne Posted September 1, 2014 Posted September 1, 2014 I'm trying to be constructive here, so I will apologize in advance if this comes across as an attack as that is not what it is meant to be. @Behemoth-Many of the members of GoH have attempted to help direct you to the way that GoH works. The mods and regulators have also tried to help you to adjust to the forums that we have here. However, it appears that you may not fully understand the unwritten 'rules' of the forums. When you want to comment on a build, it is appropriate to do that in the build thread rather than the guild threads. Also, I know that you are really excited about starting your story, however we have all heard quite a lot about it already and not seen much. Now, I see that you posted a thread explaining more details about your ideas, which is an appropriate way to approach this. But, spamming for comments in the guild thread is unnecessary as we could all see that other thread in GoH. I think that having EB'ers with your passion for GoH is a really good thing for this community, however it is getting to the point that I almost dread logging on now because of all of the threads explaining what you want to buy and when you're going to buy it, and how much more you should buy, and where you're going to buy it from and then again and again and again. You have also asked for advice several times, but when it is given you don't heed the advice and continue doing what it is you were doing. As for your threads, I have had to remain silent since you joined as I was worried I would come across as rude. You have some good ideas and cool storylines outlined, but the sheer number of posts, words, changes of minds and so on has led me to dread checking the forums that I love and usually come to. I for one am purposely not commenting on your posts until I see some builds. I have a feeling that others in this community may be doing the same thing. Be patient and work on the building skills, as that is at least half of what GoH revolves around. Notice, that I have been on EB for 2.5 years and have less posts than you do in 1 month. We are all willing to help you to become a good builder and will be happy to have your stories become part of lore, but please give us more content and less hollow words. Quote

Ecclesiastes Posted September 1, 2014 Posted September 1, 2014 I'm trying to be constructive here, so I will apologize in advance if this comes across as an attack as that is not what it is meant to be. @Behemoth- I will try to limit my posts in Kaliphlin to a few everyday, sorry guys. I do get that it's frustrating to see your beloved forum being overflown by posts that are derailing the general topic. And I can see your not the only one who's thinking like that. But as Behemoth said, he'll adapt. So let's leave it at that for now and stop with this negative vibe. Enjoy the Guilds as we always have done. Challenge III is almost up, so Behemoth can show us how he's going to put everyone's advice to good use! Quote

That may be your rule of thumb, but it certainly isn't a GoH or EB rule. Let's be clear what the rules are for everyone- posts should be constructive, on-topic, and should use proper English and punctuation, outside of that, like Ecclesiastes said, post away. I appreciate how helpful EB has been, let's keep that up and get ready for Challenge III! Quote
SarahJoy Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 I finished my latest build, Mme. Celeste's Fortune-Telling Booth. I'll try to get it photographed tonight. Here's a conceptual question for y'all more experienced builders: How often do you rebuild / how much do you rework a build, before you decide it's finished and ready to share (or you're finished with looking at it)? I'll usually rework a build about three times or so before I decide it's done, or at least, as done as I'm willing to do. Mme. Celeste's, though -- I'm still on the "first draft", and I'm over it. I didn't build it modular, so the whole thing would have to be rebuilt from scratch, and . . . Frankly, I'd rather tear it apart, and then start a fresh and different new build that addresses and corrects the issues I have with this one. Generally, how do y'all approach a similar situation? Here's a conceptual question for y'all more experienced builders: How often do you rebuild / how much do you rework a build, before you decide it's finished and ready to share (or you're finished with looking at it)? Looking forward to it. On my part, I build decorative elements first (usually rebuilding each one 3-4 times as I go) and bodge them together. The resulting structure is usually so feeble that when it's finished I have to take it apart and rebuild it properly as a structure first with decorative bits added on. So, each component is reworked multiple times and the structural bit is probably rebuilt once or twice. I usually run out of bricks on the structure, which creates its own challenges and involves a further scavenge and rebuild process. Quote

Kai NRG Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 I generally don't tear my build's apart even if I'm not satisfied with them, I'd take a picture and then tear it apart and start from scratch... or maybe take a break and build something else! Sometimes I do build a portion of it (say I'm building two houses one one build, I build the first one) and then tear that down and start from scratch. And sometimes I'll start a build one way, and for whatever reason not be happy with it and destroy it (and start again). @Kabel, yeah, if you can't when you beat 'em, copy 'em! Quote

SarahJoy Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 Ugh. Okay, here's the back side of the WIP build at present. I'm going to end up rebuilding it, because first drafts are never satisfactory. : Ignoring that fact that the WIP photos make it look like a big pile of dirty slush, you can see where I need to completely rebuild the bottom half or so of the rock structure, adding structural detail and breaking up those unnatural curves. The whole thing also needs some color variation. Blergh. Really don't want to rebuild this one, mostly because I'd like to move on to a new build and continue to establish Ruadh, but . . . this doesn't meet standards for either GoH or my own expectations. (Please PM any C&C, to keep this thread uncluttered.) Sorry, y'all. I'm really working to knock out some Ruadh builds as quickly as I can. Y'all have done such lovely guest builds in Ruadh; I'm trying to get enough native builds finished and posted that I can justify a Ruadh topic to bring it all together. Quote
gedren_y Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 If the mound is supposed to be sandstone, why not build it horizontally? There is an older Lego color, if you can get your hands on it, that should go well as variation in sandstone, light yellow. Yay, I have a new tag. Must be for my storytelling ability. Quote
