  1. Very nice. I am a sucker for a good half-timbered house, and these are spot on!
  2. Yes, I originally didn't really care if it fired, but I was convinced through comments that making it fire would take it up about 3 notches. The sling is made of some thin string and a chunk of ribbon. I used a "jump ring" on the loose end of the sling, and it simply slips off of this piece when it is firing. I was firing a 2 x 2 round light bluish gray brick. Shoots that pretty well. I think the magnet would be about the right size, but it might be a bit too heavy. I could certainly make the ropes on the sling longer and maybe then I would get more power/distance behind the throws, but it fires pretty well right now. I certainly considered the boat counterweight. I think it might be a bit heavier than the dimes, I have one somewhere but it would take some time to dig it out. biggest issue with the boat counterweight is that it is bright red and the counterweight on the treb is only 6 studs long. I could devise a plan to cover the ends as they would be showing on the counterweight as it is built now, but I haven't tried yet. My current project for Avalonia is giving me a chance to build another (but somewhat different) trebuchet, so maybe the boat weight will be used there.
  3. I don't think it is a scorpion, but a deer's head to match the shields. Anyhow, I like this, some very cool parts usage and a cool underground scene.
  4. Very nice. Maybe a little too green to be inside the capital but it fits with our guild and it livens up the MOC. Lots of good details here and very nice photos. I will link this in Albion right away! I look forward to seeing your gatehouse! Mine is about 30% complete
  5. Good point tedbeard. Check out Derfel's guide or click any of the three half-timbered houses in my signature to get a look at a couple of half-timbered houses with posts in the corners.
  6. Is that the price from LEGO on the LDD program? I think you could use bricklink and get that price down quite a bit.
  7. Very nice Andonii! I like that since you have said your brick resources are limited, that you tried to use another program to show what you could do with the right pieces. This is very much the style of our guild and I applaud this effort! Though I think we need things in real bricks for challenges and prize considerations, I think preplanning builds like this is a great way to show us what you are made of!
  8. The plots are more suggestive than literal, so I don't think there is a big difference to me between 15-16 and 14-15 (other than that buildings there should be some what larger than smaller buildings). However, I think we should move ATC closer to the gatehouse, so I approve the request and have made the change. Very nice picture in that link. Fits very nicely with our guild. I am excited to see that one!
  9. Ohh... a prize for the best build in the capital! Splendid news. Get on over to the Albion thread and get a plot! We have plenty of room still! Also, a friendly reminder, there are only a few days left in the watchtower challenge, so read the rules and get yours up by the 15th if you wish to participate!
  10. Oh nice. Half-timbered has really been my thing (which is one of the reasons I joined this guild) so I am glad those MOCs had helped inspire at least one other builder. I like that you used that technique, but the building is still recognizable as your style.
  11. I updated the first post with a new drawing of the Inner Sanctum. Fear not, the buidlings are still more or less the same shape and in the same locations, but the new sketch matches the overview in terms of overall shape and color much better (not to mention that I am more pleased with it) I also heard from some little birdy that there would be a prize for the best building in the capital... I didn't even know that!! I don't know what that prize will be, but I will update the first post when I hear. I still ask that we try to keep scale in mind when building in the capital in light of the prize situation. I don't know the judging criteria yet, but I would think if you make some that doesn't scale well it will not do as well as something that is well designed and has the right scale. We still have plenty of space in the capital, so join the project my Avalonian friends!
  12. No need to be offended. I think de Gothia is just being a good citizen and is trying to make sure we encourage participation and give everyone a chance to built something they find interesting. We don't want Albion to be built by a single builder because as we said in the first post, this is a task for ALL Avalonians. A few members have already produced two buildings and though that is completely fine (and there is even space for more buildings by those builders), just like I told Silver.Smith when he wanted to claim multiple plots (EDIT: and I am SURE he would have done a GREAT job on all those plots), we need to balance taking multiple plots and getting the capital built with allowing everyone to participate. There are some builders who take on bigger builds or whose build style is a little slower than others. Not every one can make a MOC in a day like de Gothia, Andonii or Derfel Cadarn can so we don't need to be in such a rush to claim every plot now. The guilds will continue for a while, so savor the experience! We haven't set a build limit for individual people yet and I hope not to. I will just suggest everyone keep in mind that we are a large guild and we want everyone to have a chance to participate, so if you have produced several buildings or claimed several of the same type of build then think of others before deciding what to build next. As for the plots you asked for, 49 it is. Temple of Neptune. I think it is good that you did both Mars and Minerva since they are the two Gods I thought were so good to contrast. Neptune is also a good God choice since Albion is right on the river.
  13. nope, sounds like a good choice! Like I said, I expect things will fluctuate some, I just don't want MASSIVE scale issues like a 100 x 100 two story house that is 50 bricks tall and a 10 x 10 tower that is only 10 bricks tall.
  14. Love this. This is what we were looking for. You used the shape on the map plot and built using our build style. Exactly the good work I would expect from you de Gothia. Blacksmiths did many a thing in the medieval world including shoeing horses and repairing metal for things like carts. I am glad you did something other than the typical.
  15. There is plenty of space still available. Come up with a general idea of what you are building and I will reserve that plot for you.
  16. Nice little alter here. I like the statue. Please remember to put "Albion" in the title for MOCs for our capital.
  17. I suppose Minerva would be more like the Goddess of wisdom (Minerva is Athena-esque). Notice I said Goddess of Wisdom AND peace. I was not really going for a literal translation, I was just looking for the "anti" God of war in a sense. Athena is often a foil for Ares in the Greek world, so I figured Minerva and Mars had a similar relationship in the Roman mythology (since variations outside of names are usually slight). There is likely a minor God or Goddess that is literally closer to "peace" but that is not really what I was going for! I went with peace in the description to hype up the "anti" Mars idea. EDIT: Since you are doing both, I personally think it would be a cool idea if you made the two temples as "opposite" as possible... just a thought.
  18. Good scene indeed. Very "de Gothi"ish. I am excited for an Albion MOC!
  19. It is so clean looking! I love the colors. It reminds me of an american lighthouse with the striped pattern going up the tower (which is fitting since it IS a lighthouse!). I would be tempted to add a bit more variety to the rocky base. I know the MOC is cut off when it hits the edge, but I am trying to figure out how one gets from the sea up to the lighthouse! Is there a dock and some stairs or ladder off the edge of the MOC?
  20. Very nice! The "tower side" of the photo is good, but the "cut-away side" is even better! Love all the detailing. I woud say this is more of an entire outpost than just a simple watch tower. Only suggestion for future improvement is that a few of the photos are a little dark. I have the same problem with my MOCs sometimes, so I hope a photo wizzard like Brickdoctor can straighten us out someday.
  21. This is quite the task. I really like some of the finished work here. I think some of our members will want to follow this thread so I think you should look for this on Classic-Pirates.com soon [bloggedcp][/bloggedcp]
  22. I have been thinking about this... I was trying to give a general height so we don't have absurd scale issues. I came up with 20 as a comprimise between realistic scale (in reality they could be MUCH taller) and what is reasonably achievable in LEGO bricks. My thought was it would be 20 bricks to the top of the wall (so battlements or whatever might start somewhere below that). However, it is not a hard and fast number, as variation in an actual castle wall (depending on the terrain etc) would vary and because as I have said, the main thing I was attempting to prevent was giant variations in scale. If the wall is 18 bricks tall or 22 bricks tall, I think that is just fine. I just want to avoid having one wall be 10 bricks tall and another be 60 brick tall attached to a pair of towers right next to each other on the build plans. Same thing for thickness, we want people to use their own judgements as to what will make sense with a 20 stud tall wall for the area they are building. I anticipate this will be less of an issue than height so we am leaving it up to the builder's own tastse. Just for your own reference, I think the walls I will make for the great gatehouse will likely be between 3-5 studs thick.
  23. Welcome to our guild hellboy. No need to go to the Historica sign up thread. You can make a MOC for any of the three major "areas" of our guild land, the Enchanted Forest, the Grasslands, or the Mystic Isles. You may also choose to build something in our capital city of Albion. Click HERE to join that project. If you do wish to build a MOC outside the capital in one of the three major regions, some members have carved out a small area or "subregion" on the map where their mocs are located. This gives our map a better feeling of having towns and settlements with their own building styles. For example, I build in the Mesodraconem region just south of the capital (between the Draconem River and an unnamed (thinking of calling it the Pendragon?)river). I do not yet have a name for any settlements in the area, but my MOCs will say they are from the Mesodraconem region of Avalonia so people can get a feeling of what that region is like. You need not claim any specific subregion if you do not wish to, it is purely a device to help develop our Guild and lands more. If you DO make a subregion to call your own however, you may earn yourself a guild "title" like Duke or Earl or Lord of that tract of land. When Derfel gets around to it, I hope I will become "Lord of Mesodraconem".
  24. We have derived most of our deities names from the Roman versions. The founder of the mages' guild was of Greek decent and being a proud person, named the guild hall after the Greek Goddess instead. It would be easy enough to just change the name to the Roman version (for the most part they are only different in name) but I like Hecate Hall as a name so much better (the alliteration is killer) that we will go with the decent explanation instead. Plot 60 was set up as the Mercury Hall (God of messengers and trade) so I am moving Mercury Hall to plot 15. Plot 16 is now your warehouse. I hope you make one awesome warehouse!! Just keep in mind that we are trying to keep some sense of scale and cohesion so don't go too crazy with 10 buildings in that one plot!
  25. No hard deadline, Historica guilds will live on for a while! 24 is yours. I will give a "soft" reservation on 25. If there is still plenty of room when you gatehouse is done, you can have that one as well.
