I am not saying it needed or deserved to be front-paged, especially with the S@H news, just saying it is something I have never achieved but would like to.

A good find indeed. Not sure about the wacky name... must be in some language we don't have the right characters for I really like the two level building with the red roof and how "alive" this all feels. Not the biggest fan of the building all the way to the right- but to each his own. Look for this creation to be blogged soon [bloggedcp][/bloggedcp]

Guilds of Historica Introduction/General Discussion Thread

Thanks everyone... not sure how I am going to top this one... maybe I will actually have to try landscaping or interiors. I just saw that the Inn made it on the brother-brick! Love that site. Still have never made front page on Eurobricks though... maybe I need to actually finish a big MOC for a change!

Are you talking about this piece? ? They are found in the modular petshop and a few other older sets.
-
Also, there is a good variety of parts and ideas in the winter village line. I would check those out too, the first 2 had good part to price ratios as well.
-
Medieval Market Village has to be #1, but if you have the scratch, I would definitely pick up Diagon Alley from the Harry Potter line as well. It has tons of useful parts for building a few buildings. I see that you are new here, so maybe you missed it... a guide by Derfal Cardarn was on the font page not long ago. Click this link here for an AWESOME guide on building this type of building. You won't be disappointed with that link at all!

The roof can open in those sections to access the interior... of which there currently is none... I guess to me this MOC was so big and was the first one that really has a designated function (as in it is an inn and not just another house) that I feel as if it should have an accessible interior. It does make it look a little funny back there, but I don't mind it too much.

188B While discussing a prior MOC village house I had done before here, Eurobricks Member Bart said it reminded him of the Liberty store in London. Being from the US, I had never even heard of the store, but when he posted I link, I was inspired. I was already intending to use many of the ideas (on a corner, stone work on a second floor...) that the Liberty store posses, so the store served as a great inspiration. To pay homage to the store in London, I am calling this MOC the Liberty Inn. Though it would be nice to have one... it does NOT have an interior right now. As always, click the thumbnails for larger view. Link to Brickshelf when it is public.

The LEGO Armada line was indeed much too short. I like the new parts mixed in with a very "calssic" style. I agree with Phes that this would be too part intensive to be an actual set, but with some modifications, I think it would fit in the old Armada line.

If you can't get the "insert image button" this one... to work, the html code to get it to work is [*img]http://www.yourimage.jpg[/img*] without the * in there. I suspect the web address you were copying was probably the wrong one and was not a link to the image itself... make sure the link is to a picture so it ends in something like .jpg or .png or .gif or the like. There is a guide on adding photos on the forum... it is right here... -
Good find SirSven I like how the builder used bricks/LEGO elements for many of the things most builders would attempt to use non-LEGO elements for, like the sails or the rigging between the masts (technic axels!). It definitely looks like it could be Drake's galleon too. I heard a certain “Grand Master” say he wished there were more galleons up on the site. I guess he got his wish! Oh yeah, and look for this ship to be blogged soon! [bloggedcp][/bloggedcp]

This was for the JR2 contest. It looks like the stern has quite a bit of detail, and the work on the bow does indeed match the Dutchman. Overall, however, I do not love the design. Maybe I just haven't paid enough attention to the Dutchman in the PotC films, but this design didn't immediately catch my eye.

Ah, this makes more sense now my fractional friend. I recognized the name, but since he is not a member here (too bad) I did not immediately think of anything else he has done. I also like the version of the palm trees he used here. Very nice.

I personally love the all tiled look. It seems as if everything is just a touch too small as skipper noted, but there are a lot of very cool techniques used here as well. The Flickr info says this is supposed to be a modernized version of 6277 and you can definitely tell that is what it is based off of. The little sail boat in there is also very well done, take a look at the Flickr link to see it from another angle... not quite as nice there, but still some good techniques! Look for this updated set to be blogged soon! [bloggedcp][/bloggedcp]

I like the coloration. I also think the sails and masts look very nice. I do not mind the stern and I like the way you used just the shutters from the windows there. A fishing or merchant ship is someting we need to see more of around here. I wonder if they would use nets as well as fishing poles though. What I would change, however, is the rigging. The thread you used is just too thin! I think you should consider using a thicker string or yarn to make it all pop. I would also consider making the bow less boxy.
-
I love the detailing work on the stern. The ships remind me a lot of Captain Green Hair and Bonaparte's MOC that can be found here I do like this second ship a little more than the first, but they are both excellent. Look for this ship to be blogged soon. [bloggedcp][/bloggedcp]

The color combos are great in LDD. I hope they are as sharp in real brick. Good work and I look forard to seeing it in bricks!

Odds? Only four Orcs... I think maybe the Orcs have the odds against them while facing such a fearless ranger! I do wish there was a photo of the hero here though.

Great improvements on the bow. I really like this color scheme!

[MOC] PotC The Cannibal Escape Alternate Build
ZCerberus replied to Sid Sidious's topic in Pirate MOCs
I think it is creative indeed. I usually strive to use the "best" part for the job in any MOC, but since your goal was to use only the parts from that set for your MOC, I have to applaud your result. How did you look at the cannibal escape set and think, "I should build a voodoo demon"? -
I like the way you did the stop motion for this build. Very cool the way you build it up in a circular pattern, really makes the build pop. Look for your video to be blogged soon. [bloggedcp][/bloggedcp]

Looks like it is going to be similar to the "super frigates" of the US navy (Constitution esp). Also, love the name of the ship ;)

A Guide to building a Medieval Village
ZCerberus replied to Derfel Cadarn's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I want to start out by saying Jamie is a great builder and is responsible for some of the most awesome sets Lego has produced recently. Not only is the technique I use "illegal", it is the a #1 illegal technique in the guide! Maybe the AT-ST model is one of the ones that was built before the design stuff came up and the "only the best" approach was king. Apparently using the technique may stress your bricks. However, since I am not designing a set, I will continue to do it in MOCs as it sometime is the best (and only?) way I know of to make a corner work. The rest of you have been warned. MOCers, however, feel free to join my rebel (or pirate?) alliance and use this illegal technique anyway! -
A Guide to building a Medieval Village
ZCerberus replied to Derfel Cadarn's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Hall me off to jail!! Even funnier is LEGO has actually used it before! It was used in this set mini AT-ST. That was before this piece existed. Maybe they did something I didn't in there, but I use this technique ALL the time, often out of necessity. Another thought then... if one uses this and this in place of this ... and then mixes the two, again, any lattice work would probably technically be illegal as well. I will have to check out Jamie's list, but I am going to keep using it (I feel like such a rebel right now)!
