So would this one satisfy you ;)

Thanks all for the positive feedback... a few things... Well that is why I tried the stripe- I would like to do more windows but the curved ones are hard to work in (there are no such thing as brown 1 x 4 Lego arches and no good quality black lattice windows in the square variety. I tried a couple of other colors but didn't love them. I do agree it is a bit bland in the center... I might come up with something! What do you mean? Do you mean I do not have any ships using the Lego® style hulls? Or is this sarcasm? That is a lovely cabin... if it weren't going to be integrated into Fort Brighton as was a complete stand alone MOC, I think I would consider it. I do like that log technique though, is that one of yours Joey? I am a big fan of your landscaping skills so keep pouring out the MOCs so I can "borrow" your techniques!

Some better light...

Inside it looks like nothing :( The tower is currently just sitting on the base-- it is stable when it is just sitting there, but I would hesitate to pick the whole thing up. The walls on the tower hold together well though. Yes, it was quite dangerous. Lighthouses would burn down if the flame hit the roof quite often. Usually the "light room" in a wooden lighthouse was a ways down in the structure to keep the candle flames from reaching the roof, but on occasion the things would burn down. That was certainly one of several reasons they moved to masonry brick. Hah, very nice. Thanks. You can see the light brick in that picture... if only I had three hands... or a good way to depress the brick with Lego bricks while snapping the shot.

Well this lighthouse will go on Fort Brighton... somewhere... It is not exactly historically accurate, but then again, what do I make that ever is! Lighthouses in the age of the pirates would have been made of wood like this one is, but they would not have had the spiraling stripe... and even if it did have a spiraling stripe it would be far more brightly colored. I also am not much of a landscaper as most know, but I try my best! I might try to snap a few shops tomorrow when I have some day light. The lighthouse does indeed have a light brick up top, but I can't hold it in and snap pictures too easily. Anyhow, a few snaps without the flash or very good light....

*applause* A good looking ship and the first Lego® designed three master. The sails look good and this is definitely something to look forward to. Looks like the hull is the dark brown instead of rown. Same color and size as the troll warship I would imagine so if you have the warship already you should be looking to expand this puppy! The captain's daughter looks like a new fig and the "butcher's knife" held by the cook is one of the flexible spikes that could be seen in a few of the summer '09 sets (like the ones in space truck getaway). I would note Boney has already told us Pirates would not be a continuing theme in 2010, and though Lego has thrown us a bone with this set and kept us happy (which I certainly am)- I would note that the box appears to be more of the "factory" or exclusive type box instead of the "pirates" box suggesting to me this will be the only Pirates we will see in 2010. Of course, some are anticipating POTC when the new movie comes out thanks to the Disney license but since that is still all speculation, I might have to nab up more than one of these... even if they are $180 Happy pirating!

Very nice. I like how you did the landscaping (not my strong suite to say the least) and you did a great job with putting things at different levels and angles. The detail is excellent- and though I LOVE tan and rown as the color choices for your houses- have you considered adding some other "main" house colors as well? Overall it is quite excellent!

Well in Minnesota I can get them at 3 places... 1) the Lego store in the Mall of America- there are 3 Lego stores in Texas, so if you are close to any of them, that would definately be your best bet. I have probably purchased 25 here and there from the Lego store there. 2) TRU. I would NEVER buy the impulse sets at TRU... here in Minnesota they impulse sets are priced at an insane $6.99... (instead of the expected $3.49). At $6.99 they are priced the same as the $1.00 TRU over priced cannon battle, which might be a better deal (5.99 at Target/Wal-mart around here for cannon battle). 3) RURAL Wal-marts. I live in an urban area where I have NEVER seen an impulse pirate set, but I have had some luck finding the newer impulse sets at RURAL Wal-marts. I have never seen one in a Target or K-Mart. I do not know how each Wal-mart selects their stock (for example, every store may pick from inventory lists or maybe they have specific inventories based on size and location etc, though I would guess each has some say over their stocks) but what they stock is NOT very consistent in MN. Good luck! Z "money" Cerberus

I agree with you to some extent... but I would say that these 6 houses are a mere smattering of what will be in the village. I also do not plan on having the village so close to the cathedral/fortress when I am done- but I am working with limited space (as you might be able to tell ;) ) so I had to put them somewhere! I am planning on building several other buildings in the village that will be sized somewhere between the houses and the bigger buildings like a windmill, inn, governor's house, black smith, guns smith and maybe even a farm or too. We'll see how everything is working when we get to that point!

Petition: We want the Pirates Advent Calender in the United States
ZCerberus replied to Bonaparte's topic in LEGO Pirates
Thanks Ambassador! -
More Village. Not in love with any of them yet- and none have much of an interior. I want to come up with a few different ways to do roofs and I am trying to use all the "odd" colors I have... expect dark orange, more dark tan, lime green and dark blue in future builds. I ordered some more roof angle changing pieces in black.

None to speak of right now. Not exactly sure- we will see how many houses I can make and how much variety I can add-- the first two houses I made were fairly similar, so I am eventually am going to try to spice it up a bit!

So more work on the cathedral this time. I love the stained glass windows, but they were facing the back where they can't be seen on my desk... plus, the side walls looked so... blah... So easy solution- add stained glass windows to the side you can usually see! Here is a shot last night with the puck light in the dome on... it might not be bright enough- but you can see it shining through... sorta... And now here this morning with the opposite sections of the roof removed so the sun could shine through. It is easy to take off the roof- it is held on with magnets so each of the four roof sections comes off with nary a hassle! I still want to switch the roof to bley and rework the top section of the bell towers- but it is getting close!

It's paper. I have some "outdoor canvas" but it is supposed to be used for the sails on the Phantom. The houses are pretty generic- but with enough of them... It is built on a 12 x 12 grid of light weight technic topped squares. I think only 1/2 are hanging over the edge so it is holding up pretty well. I think it would instantly collapse if there wasn't so much open, empty space in there keeping the weight down. no idea- but pretty much every set and piece I have except for my pirate ships and a few UCS Star wars sets are being devoted to the harbor.

New updates... Some old work got some attention... Flag pole now has flag. Tiled top of fortress... I like it and it is tempting me to do more tiling. Added a sea wall below the fortress and a dock so I can start on a village. Couple of very "market village"-esque houses. They hinge open and are set up to be able to sit next to each other despite the hinge. I do plan on adding more variety but I wanted to see how they look with this size and with the techniques I am employing to ensure they can sit next to each other. A shot of the work in progress over all.

My first set was Caribbean Clipper (6274). The first set I purachsed enmass and really enjoyed had to be the bounty boat though- extra weapons, soldiers, and red row boats on the cheap-- the first real army builder set I eyed.

Very nice indeed! It looks like you have taken note of some of the best techniques out there and used them to make a top notch ship! One thing to mention- the Sang Royale reminds me to a degree of the the Soleil Royale (as it is supposed to?)- I think the blue color on that ship would be closer to the lighter Lego blue. I wonder if that color would look even better on this ship! Just a thought. Nice work Admiral!

Cranes have been worked on... I Really wanted a tapered look, so these worked perfectly. Plus. I have about 10 or so of them from the Vikings line. Flash on... pesky shadows.

Heh- Here is a *egablocks version that I found... I was doing a google image search to find a shot of the docks from the movie for you, but this came up in the results. I didn't even know this was out there... I hope mine ends up looking better than this! Also, in the movie the whole thing is rotated 90 degrees and I am not exactly sure how one gets between the levels... My version is certainly my own take on it- but you can see, as I said, I got alot of inspiration from the movie on the dock. Good call my man. Yes. I tried to add some of the dark brown in there too, but it is still largely a hunk of rown. I am considering adding some dark tan here and there and I am not done with all the railings. My camera also doesn't do too well in low light with the flash on... the flash just kinda removes some of the natural gaps between the bricks that give it a better look- I looks pretty nice in person (as does the Phantom which mostly looks like a black blob from my camera), so maybe I need to just open the shades, turn off the flash, and use a tripod to get a few good snaps. I think maybe adding more on top of the docks will help too. It is still in progress after all.

Yeah? I have always thought of a shipyard as a place where they make ships... which is not what I wanted. I was thinking more like the office of a trading company with a supply shop/warehouse. Big ports need big business!
-
Welcome to Eurobricks! The docks are attached to a seawall that will border the village I will begin work on shortly. Speaking of the village... what buildings should I be producing? I considering the following- editions and suggestions welcome. Light House Blacksmith Baker Fishing hut/shack(s) Pub/Inn Stable Carpenter Gunsmith Houses of various sizes Barracks Gov. Mansion Butcher/general store type thing Chapel (?) "Shipping center" which would have an office for a shipping company and a supply shop for boats.

Here is a dock section I am working on. The cranes obviously aren't done as well as a few other things. It is heavily inspired by the dock seen PotC:tCotBP.

This was a major concern, so that is good to hear. I do, however, want the cathedral to tie in to the fortress section, but still remain independent... that is what I want to change the roof to bley... that way it will match the dome and look a little different from the tan/white/dark red colors of the fortress.

Z, where is the update!!!!! Oh yeah... well I tried to upload some new picks to brickshelf, but brickshelf did not take them :( I will try again tonight. Until then I will simply tell you what's changed. I built a store house in the courtyard between the fortress and the cathedral. It is tan and rown. I really like that color combo. There is an opening in the courtyard where supplyes can be raised and lowered to reach the lower section of the fortress. I hope it doesn't crowd the side of the cathedral too much. The cathedral has received some attention. The side that opens onto the courtyard had a rown "command platform" that has been removed in favor of a side enterence. There are also two smaller stained glass windows there as well. I reformulated the front to make it more ornate. It now has three doors (two rectangular, one round), some pilars and arches and some more decorations. It is still a work in progress, but it looks much more like the cathedrals I have seen out there in the real world. I am not 100% sold on it because the additions to the front do not blend in as well as I would like yet. We'll see what I can do with it after I have some pictures up. Changes still to be made on the cathedral, reformulate the "towers" on top, look into changing the roof to bley and , and add some decoration to the part were the roof joins the structure. Pictures to come...
