You are indeed correct. It is a little weird. I have never seen a lego one as such... maybe it is from one of the fake Companies?
-
hey, i did a rebuild in the new colors it is missing a few elements, like sails, and an anchor, but it is mostly there. I am pretty sure it has become a Brig, so my sail plan will be Brig-ish, but be ready late tonight (in the US) for a few new pictures!! EDIT: GRRRRRRRRRRRRR!! My internet at home broke down last night, so I could not post the pictures... I will today, the new version is a 'fair amount' better than the old in my opinion... and the monkey and the parrot have moved aboard!
-
Heh- well it looked nice while it lasted! A little colorful, but at least all the colors went well together for each building. I am also glad to see you have mastered the thumbnail link! Hooray!

Well they don't! it was just something I added. I was just mentioning it to Phes, mostly to show that these aren't just thrown on, but that people actually do think about them first! Yes, Xebecs were mainly used on the Barbary Coast, but a few were used in the Caribbean as well. Galleys would have been more common in the golden age of piracy, but Xebecs sure do look cool! Don't you just despise Lego moving to reddish brown!!!!! Since nearly everything on Duke's Xebec is reddish brown, it isn't as annoying as if you had to mix them more, but it often times makes me upset!!

How water tight are gun ports? the lower gun deck any many ships was very low, in fact often making them unusable with sea swells, the oars are no different. The oars are not at water level, they are above it like a gun port would be. Being one who has used oars on a ship, I would like to make several points... 1) The ships I have seen using them were the types of ships that were BOTH rowed and sail powered, Xebecs and Galley's being the biggest two. To be fair, theses ships in real life usually had the oars placed higher up on the ships than those of us who have been implementing them here, but historically speaking there were several types of ships, including large warships (Spanish Galleys) that were both sail and oar powered. 2) When I first made my oar and sail powered Xebec I was unaware of ANYONE who had done so in the past. After boneparte made the index, I saw only one or two others that were oar powered. so I would hardly consider it to be an epidemic. 3) As far as I am aware, there are only a handful of ships on the entire forum that are oar powered, the two of them are Xebecs, so maybe then a real question should be why we are all building Xebecs! Here are the Xebecs and oar powered ships. As you can see, three Xebecs including the one in this post, two are oar powered, three oar powered ships, two are xebecs. I guess my point is the oar powered ships I have noticed appear to be Xebecs which historically were oar powered as well as sailed. As such, like I said before, perhaps the real question is why is everyone making Xebecs?

Query, should this be called 'land based' MOCS, or should it be all MOCS that aren't ships. I mean we could potentially have mocs that aren't ships, but aren't landbased either... like custom figures or sea creatures or the like... I think it should be a MOC index excluding ships, since I am not sure, but I would guess there probably aren't as many forts/ports as there are ships.
-
Now we do have to call you 'MR.' Tiber Well if I had to pick a replacement, Tiber would be on my short list, so I think it is the right move.
-
Than perhaps you will be disappointed to discover the color scheme is not going to be kept. I just have too many weird elements in there and it looks, like Norro said, a little like floating rocks! Maybe smaller ships could handle the scheme, but I am not a huge fan on this large a ship!
-
Good to see! Now get back to MOCing!! *y*
-
Well you don't ALWAYS have to row it. I put 'closeable' ports on mine so they don't always need to be open when there isn't a need for rowing! I would also like to point out that these are Lego ships, and appreciate the fact that people are trying something different!

Well you obviously know how to paste a link and post a thumbnail... so it is just a combo of the two! If you highlight any text (including HTML text of an image) in the post and click the hyperlink button... this button, and insert the web adress you are golden! I have an idea... here are the links as they whould look... copy the text I wrote underneath them and delete the two '*'s and it should work! [*url=http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/SimonWillems/Ship/p1213949.jpg] [*img]http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/SimonWillems/Ship/thumb/p1213949.jpg_thumb.jpg[/img] [*url=http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/SimonWillems/Ship/p1213948.jpg] [*img]http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/SimonWillems/Ship/thumb/p1213948.jpg_thumb.jpg[/img] I did see that, but I was thinking it would be a tight squeeze!!

Even the prototype was missing the rigging and sails and missing some pieces. I guess it is a little more fleshed out than a normal WIP would be, but it is still in progress, whether we call it a prototype or something else.
-
Yes yes, and also since the only link to the pics is the brickshelf folder, if you modify the folder in anyway, then the folder will be inaccessible for a while. 'Deep links' however are unaffected by a modification to the folder, such as a direct link to the picture. Here is an example of a thumbnail with a direct link to the picture! To set something like this in the thread you need to insert a hyperlink to the brickshelf image with the 'name' of the hyperlink being the thumbnail image. If you post the thumbnails (like you have already done above) all you have to do is highlight the text for the image, click the hyperlink button, and insert the address of the brickshelf picture... I know other posts have given instructions on how to do this so if you are confused someone can direct you there!

Ahh!! Phes you have to consider that the hinges have to be on the EDGE of two base plates. If you attached it somewhere else, the base plates would hit each other. Maybe you are thinking that, but the location is where it has to be. Of course on the far edge you could place several of them vertically so long as they are in the same horizontal plain! It would be hard in this place because there is a BURP in the way! perhaps the bes solution would be to move the BURP over 2 studs, or nor use a BURP or maybe a LURP and put another or maybe two more hinges vertically. In that space.

You tell them Phes! Well I know people get distracted by all the pictures, but if you read all the posts, you would see I am not staying with this color scheme. I made it out of the current colors because when I opened a thread for this ship a while back, I suggested doing it in the new colors and there was some positive feedback on that idea. I tried it out, but I don't love the scheme, and I didn't have enough parts to finish everything as I would have liked. I am going to change the ship over to red, black, and dark gray to match the Arbiter II and Sienna. Agreed. Read previous statements!

I have no problem calling this a MOC, but may I make a few suggestions for the way you posted things? First, thumbnails are okay, but you should use them as LINKS to larger pictures of the same image or to the brickshelf folder. Secondly, if you resized one or two images to around 800 x 600 or even 1024x 768 you could post the images right in the thread! As for the MOC itself, when I started making pirate ships they were just expansions and remodels of existing ships, but slowly I began branching out to make ones that don't even resemble anything Lego has done. I think we should embrace all MOC whether extensions of the Lego versions or not. I am not quite sure how the captain gets in his cabin though!
-
Ahh excellent, Phred has mentioned his brother and his love of the royal navy several times! Since this is a thread about YOUR ship, I won't share any pictures of my own version of a Xebec... err... Galley... err somewhere in between... but I will give you a link so you can see how I tried to do the sails and rigging! BS Folder is here And the thread in our board is here
-
Thanks, but this thread is really about YOUR tower! I also have some black stairs in an actual harbor/fort as well, but I didn't show them because they are all black and just kind of look like a blob! it doesn't sound like you are terribly interested in changing the tower stairs however, which is perfectly fine, just thought you'd like to know! You sure do have many a MOC in your BS folder, just keep the pirate ones coming!

Do you want to add only MLCAD that aren't turned into real Lego MOCs, or any MLCAD regardless of if there is a real Lego variant? I, for example, have the Sienna in both forms...
-
Well they need not be white of course! here is an example with black and dark gray from a ship... all black is a little hard to pic the detail out on, but this should give you an idea... Technically speaking it would take the same amount of space, but being open underneath would give you an opportunity to put things UNDER the staircases as well! I see you used sloped like idea when you had to go over the windows for example, and this alternate build method might work well for something like that too! Anyhow, I like the MOC, and I really like the picture you snapped of the tower being opened. Here is the shot I speak of, I would post the pictures, but they are a bit large... Link
-
Well that is for the Arbiter II, which is also going to be 24 studs longer than the current version, so I think it'll work out alright!
-
No no... what I meant was I made a new sail plan for the Arbiter II so instead of the image you posted, I wanted you to look at the new sail plan idea for the one mast I redesigned. I said to scroll down because this image Was before I adjusted the sails to get to this image here is another... That is the sail plan for the main mast on the Arbiter II. Just check that link.

I guess I wouldn't have any problems with that. I just thought that if there were only a couple, it wouldn't be a big deal. Also, I personally did a couple of ships in MLCAD, but made Lego versions as well, and I would certainly prefer to have the actual Lego versions included. MLCAD modeling, however, is MOCing I think, it really helps flesh out ideas, especial if you have a great idea, but no access to your Legos, or simply not enough Legos in general. Once again, bonaparte, you are the one who will be adding them and tracking them down, so it really sems like an executive decision as to how much to include. If there aren't a huge number though, you could create a new post inside the thread with all the MLCAD models for those who are interested in them. If there are only a couple more than what Starwind has put out, made limiting it to EB members only isn't necessary. I would think that there are a lot fewer MLCAD models than actual ships, and we have been including BS folders of ships who are not made by members, have we not?
