Ahh!! those look like Barquentines my lad! Yes, I kind of like the Fore and Aft riggins like that... It is a possibility for sure! Schooners also use fore-aft rigging, but often do not have any square rigging on them. And if I did do the SNOT method on the sides, I would be tempted to put some tiles across them to make it look smoother. I just fear I would not have neraly enough of them. I have been considering multiple methods, we'll what I can come up with! Also, if you look at my Arbiter, you will notice that I have used the tappered/sloped design from lower to upper deck like you are doing on your frigate. I liked how sleek it made it look, but idisliked how narrow it got. I guess the design I am showing here is using the wider hulls so perhaps it wouldn't be as annoying as I found it to be on the Arbiter. We shall see! Thanks for the input! Well... first of all... Old Chap? I have only been on this forum for like 2 months! And secondly... I guess I actually could take progress pictures. I will do so for the Sienna for sure, and the Covenant depending on how far I get. I just hope my bricklink order arrives tomorrow!

Interesting... well maybe I will take a stab and see.

I am using the wider prefab hulls, brown. It is still 1 hour until Wednesday in the United States Right now. I am using Red, Black and Dark Gray on the Sienna, and everyone knows the (current) version of the Arbiter is White and Blue. I am tempted to Use Red and Black and Dark Grey (I have a lot of Red and black, though I am a little light on Dark Gray) again on another ship (Arbiter Rebuild?) with the Red hulls... but I would prefer to not use the same color scheme on all three ships... I think I have a lot of MidStone and Blay to Use up. Midestone, and Blay and Blue with brown hulls could be okay so long as the blue was used sparingly, like on the gun ports. I also think Black and Yellow looks pretty good, and I am open to Black and White, but I want to know if there is some other scheme out there that people think looks really cool... Also, any suggestions for ship type... i.e., type of rigging, number of decks, or masts?

Well I don't know if you two are just being silly, but Bryce is definitely a first name here in the United States!

Pesky SNOT builders! To the gallows with all of them!

Well this post has been dead for a while, but I thought I would mention a few things. 1, the new design isn't terribly different, I would be more cautious as to the coloring. Reddish brown is defiantly different from brown. and 2, at the risk of sounding like captain obvious, I would guess the new musket uses less plastic is and is therefore cheaper to produce. You will notice that the old design sloped in, or was concave there, probably for the same reason!

First of all, I like the sheer mass of this ship. I also like that the colorful bricks are so well concealed, though I would question the idea of pirates commanding such a large ship, as most pirates used much smaller vessels for raiding and pillaging. They would be more likely to use a Hoy or Galleot than a Man-of-War. Secondly, to all my American homies... well that would be Phred mostly... I think we can both agree that the US certainly needs to get on the Metric System train. Feet and inches, galleons and quarts... they are just silly. And to my Canadian allies, that would mostly be Sting, Willy and Aaron... it must suck to always be accommodating everyone and using hybrids all the time... I mean French and English on you cereal boxes, that must also be tough!

I wish people would actually read more than first post sometimes! It is good to hear that Willy is NOT leaving. If you had read all the posts, this would be obvious. Despite a moment of weakness, Willy has decided that leaving would be too difficult and is staying. We should all be happy, as Willy not only contributes a lot to the forum, but is also a passionate fan. Let's regard this topic as teaching us two lessons... 1) You can try to leave, but you can't... kinda like the California in the song 'Hotel California!' 2) RTFP!! (I think Imperial Scouts will be mad at me when he deciphers that one).

One can hope! I mean, they did bring back pirates in the form of 4+! I do suspected we would see some other form of shooting device, crazy traps, and swords that were no long cutlasses. There would also be some great emphasis on individual characters like there was for Knights Kingdom II.

Unlikely. I will be taking test on Monday and Wednesday, and I will study in between the two. Then I will leave for my parents house for Christmas on Thursday. At which point I will focus my attention first on the Sienna rebuild, and with the extra time, the Covenant. That is why I was hoping for some fast insipration here!

So I did a CAD design of the new idea for the Sienna and the feedback has been positive. The Seinna is going to be very different as I am attempting to incorporate both lateen sail rigging and oars into the mix. I, however, also want to redo the Covenant as the new Sienna will be stealing the hulls of the Covenant. A link to the old Covenant The new Covenant will be have 3 brown (wide) middle hulls and most likely two masts (or maybe a small mizzen mast as well?). Unlike the Sienna, which is definately a Xebec, I have not decided on a type of ship for the Covenant or many of the design elements. That is why I am opening this thread. I want some ideas on what the new Covenant should look like. I need a color scheme, and maybe a type of ship to build off of. I am also thinking of using this type of construction for my center hulls... The color scheme in those pictures, however, would not the scheme of the new ship. Only thing is, I might actually be more tempted to do something like this on a rebuilt Arbiter. I know, probably biting off more than I can chew... Ultimately I guess I want to know 1) suggestions for color scheme considering I will be using red Imperial Guards with the tan and red sails we have all come to love. 2) whether the type of construction above should be used on the Covenant, or if I should use the idea on a newly rebuilt Arbiter instead and 3) if there is a particular type of ship/rigging that anyone would like to see attempted, or that anyone has found works really well with Lego Pirate ships?

Yeah... same thing with old and new brown. I guess they have names... Old gr(e)ay is 'light gray' New gray is 'mid-stone' Old brown is 'brown' New brown is 'reddish brown' Also I have been unhappy about: Old dark gray is 'dark gray' New dark gray is 'dark bluish gray' Oh well! I actually had to use both light gray and mid-stone on my harbor, but since you can't really see the floors (only place I used it) it is usually not noticeable. I also tried to only use a single shade of gray across one floor, but I was surprising light on old gray plates, but got a tone of mid-stone ones from a pick-a-brick near me.

I think there was a distinct switch that you can see to sets that were more colorful. They started reducing the number of weapons, and making things strange color combinations... like Red rowboats with yellow seats. They also began to care less about structure and harmony and more about little blurbs they could write in the catalogs! Like I said, they cared more about ease of construction (hence the ropes that were attached to studs) and extra little tricks like trap doors and tilting masts, as opposed to look and feel over all. Is anyone going to tell me the Red Beard Runner was better than the Skull's Eye Schooner? Or that the Crossbones Clipper didn't look silly next to the Renegade Runner? It can't be that the older the sets got the worse they were. I would say the Skull's Eye was superior to the Black Seas Barracuda, and it was developed later, as I would also contend the Imperial Flagship was better than the Caribbean Clipper, so something else must have happened, and I believe it was an intentional shift towards a youth movement somewhere around 1994 or 1995. I think that Lego has actual reversed the trend to a certain degree. For example, the first rounds of Lego Star Wars I felt the same way about, they were kinda kiddy with odd color combos (see AT-ST and TIE Bomber) and silly add ons, and then they got better, less Junior as of late. But the Vikings and Auquaraider II, as well as Batman sets has restored my faith that Lego is on a comeback... and I hope they revisit Pirates soon.

Yes, if that is the only door, it does need some sort of landing, but I we can't see the other side of the prison, so maybe a landing is there.
-
so if this is the third, what was the second? The rebuild of the first one?

Okay last update for a while. This might be the last CAD version of the ship before it gets built. I will be adding a pair of anchors and maybe reworking some of the rigging. It will also get some minor details in the lower decks. First, some shots with some rigging... Then a shot of the ship with the oars retracted. And a fun little action shot with the long boat out and about. I am not going to use this long boat, but since Lego doesn't give us a rowboat in MLCad, this will have to do for now! Enjoy! I hope to build her soon! (next week)
-
Who doesn't? I mean honestly, you can never have too many!!
-
Yes, it generally looks better when actually built. Also, there are pieces not in the CAD program that really add to it, like flags, and row/long boats. and you can add rigging... speaking of rigging, maybe you can see that there isn't going to be any ratlines on a ship like this, that means all the rigging will be rope or thread. Does anyone know where one can get the nylon type rope Lego uses? Or am I stuck with sewing thread? Exactly!!!

Strictly Concept Ship 5 masted HMCS Andromeda
ZCerberus replied to Admiral Starwind's topic in Pirate MOCs
Ah shoot! I am only 4! Hehe, I am in Law School and I don't even read the terms anymore! Anyway, maybe we should talk about the ship. It is certainly large, and like me, Starwind has a thing for CAD work! It sounded like you have no intentions to build anything like this, then you were going to, but then you stopped... have you secretly been hording pieces to get the ship done? Updates please! -
Tell me about it! I had to order a lot of white arches for my MOC. The more recent pirate sets for the Imperial Guards actually used a lot of yellow arches and look a little more... childish? They were trying to reach their target demographic better, and unfortunately reduced the quality of their sets, at least I think, to add trap doors and tilting masts. Oh well, it is what it is. Good luck Brickster!

So I did a lot of work on the Harbor... but it is still being called "The Imperial Harbor". I am thinking it needs a new name. Norrington: No Halo names... unless it is ingenious ;-) Any suggestions? I will take basically any suggestion, regardless of meaning or language. I can always give it a name, and a nickname in another language if I get several good ideas! Thanks guys!
-
I am assuming "echniuge" is technique ;-) I actually first used it on Vikings, so they could carry a third weapon, like a double battle axe as well as a shield and hand weapon (sword, small axe,etc.). I liked the idea, so I though I would transport it over for these special Marines of mine.

Which is your favourite base in the Pirate LEGO theme?
ZCerberus replied to Tully's topic in LEGO Pirates
But if we include that, then we would need to include Sabre Island, and Imperial Outpost, and Lagoon Lockup etc. etc. etc. If all you are saying is that there was a land based MOC for the Armada, we are in agreement, but if you think it is a worthy enough base to be added to the poll, I would disagree as there are many other 'bases' that we forgot then! -
Neither! It is hard to tell from the pics, but they have a white bracket (neck hanger) on with a clip on the back so they can carry a black musket with them as well. Nice thing about MLCAD... you can always get a new pic... I'll show one from the back so you can see what they are packing.
