  1. Lots of freak outs here. MOCers will wait and see. Sorry if I'm too calm about it all.
  2. We still don't know enough to make any judgements. We'll discuss where a new theme should've when we know everything there is to know.
  3. This is how I feel about *any* castle theme. Give me interesting heraldry and a cheap set to get my army, and the rest is all gravy. To be fair, LEGO has pressed vehicles in every castle theme too. Ballistas, boats, catapults, wagons- we see those no matter what else goes on. I do agree though, steampunk flying machines and tanks would be wacky- but again, so long as the parts are good, so am I.
  4. Who says? You don't know much about the future and future otherworldly cooking oils man! Totally healthy.
  5. Ornithopters should have beating wings though, right? No fossil fuels here! These Eco-friendly future space people use spent cooking oil to power everything. Duh! Besideds the doors, the landing gear moves and the VTOL engines rotate. The engines can be tilted downward a little too if you are careful.
  6. I'm not saying it would pass Lego review for official set status- but it is stable enough to be swooshable by anyone over the age of 7. The rear landing strut is a bit fragile though. A wrong angle can cause collapse!
  7. No need to merge two conjecture threads right now. Not proof they are the same, or either exists. Continue wild speculation until something real is known.
  8. Glad you liked it Jim! It really is a different type of build for me, but something I plan to venture into again!
  9. The chart tells me nothing as far as LotR. It doesn't give revenue (or profit) for just LotR or Hobbit, or even state it is just for licenses in general. It is interesting to see- but doesn't really tickle my bones at all!
  10. I built this little ship from parts acquired from clearance sets at Target and Walmart while on vacation with my in-laws. It is inspired by the neo classic space display I saw at Brickworld and the dragonflies my father-in-law likes to catch and document, the biggest and most prized of all being the fierce dragonhunter. I will admit it is more neo than classic. I used bley and dark bley and there is no bumble bee stripe- but hey, I still think it looks pretty sweet. There are quite a few sets I parted out, so I can't say for sure where all the parts come from, though I know 2 Benny's Space Ships, a Milano Space Ship and 4 Kashyyyk troopers sets were involved. Profile view Front view Rear angle Hatch open After the ship was done, my 2 year old son wanted to play with it, so I had to construct something to keep him busy. Hence the refueling tanker was made. He loved to call it "my tankerr twauk!" Refueling begins!
  11. Very nice. The pics are a bit on the large side though- mind cutting them down to something more reasonable?
  12. The photos are also a bit on the large side- could you scale them down please?
  13. Nice build Simon. GoH rules!
  14. I resized your picture- it was a little intense. Not sure what exactly the mini challenge will look like- we're working on it.
  15. By the middle of 2014, my mom had been having some health problems for several months. She was diagnosed with a milk allergy that had been throwing her digestive system out of control and she was losing weight. Finally, after some scans and labs we knew for sure. In early November she was diagnosed with liver cancer and finally a Neuroendocrine Tumor (NET). The NET and liver cancer combination was not curable. We heard encouraging things. NET cancer is slow. Steve jobs lived with a similar condition for eight years, and he didn’t seek conventional treatment. For whatever reason, hers was more aggressive. Instead of growing at a rate of one or two percent, it was 15. Anger set in. She didn’t understand why this was happening to her. She didn’t abuse drugs or alcohol and she was a good person. Things like this don’t happen to good people, do they? She wrote to a former pastor friend that it wasn’t fair, that she didn’t deserve this and that God was punishing her. The response helped give my mom some comfort and a new resolve. The pastor told her she was looking at this all wrong. Connecting to the English teacher side of my mom, the pastor told her to stop looking at this like a “period”, something that signals the end, but instead to look at this as merely a “comma”, something that signals a pause, something that signals there is more to come. After hearing these words, my mom got a pin with a big red comma on it as a symbol that no matter what would come, this was not the end, only a pause. The comma became a symbol for my mom. We were given mugs with big red commas on them and a small pin she often wore on her shirt. She announced to us on March 22, 2015 that the cancer experts at Mayo had taken their best shot and it hadn’t worked. What we had hoped would be years had ended up being less than six months. My mom’s body passed away on March 31, 2015. As sad as I was about her passing, I try to remember the comma. I try to remember that it is just a pause. I try to remember my mom’s passing is not the end, This MOC, which I brought to Brickworld, is a tribute to my mom. A big red comma with my mom’s nickname and birth date inscribed on the side. The ship has a remote control that extends the wing struts to allow the engines to rotate into a VTOL configuration. A shot from the side shows more of the comma shape. The rear of the ship features three thrust engines with blue engine glow. The ship in landed mode with the "tails" pinned back. There is also a power function to lower the landing gear. The gear isn't anywhere near strong enough to hold up the ship, so it is more of a symbolic addition. The ship features 9 sets of PF lights. One light reveals the co-pilots- my mom and a famous Thespian. Some details. Thanks for looking and reading.
  16. Aye captain- time with both came back to make Nocturnus rise again! I do have the Brickworld build pending- then ol' Ravaage will be back to his old tricks... Outside of mass editor- who wants to help with the next challenge? Should we have a mini contest to pick an additional special assistant to help with the next challenge?
  17. That is a historic theme acquisition? I'd be more tolerant if you were a long time member who was a regular in history. Please be more mindful of topic's purpose.
  18. Generally not. There have been a few that have been on discount, but they were overpriced to begin with (Obi-Wan's star fighter) or not popular for whatever reason (B-Wing).
  19. While I agree with you here- I think the system scale gunships have all been pretty sweet already!
  20. While I was not intending to necromance this thread, I was adding something to my photostream on Flickr when I saw the Slave 1 family picture and dropped back in on this thread. I noticed this liner: And while I would have chalked this up to the thoughts of a crazy (or sarcastic) person, I looked more closely at the profile and see the poster may have some legit insight into Slave 1 design. Thanks for checking in with us Burkhard!
  21. I could have sworn there was a comparison reviewdone in March already... That reviewer totally agrees with you, don't retire the 2010 version, it is spectacular.
  22. I am surprised we're still talking about this. Once the daily posts stop- we'll finally cut the thread loose and let it drift out to sea.
  23. I really like this. Great color scheme and interesting shapes.
  24. Yes, let's take what I said as literally as possible and not as hyperbole aimed to say LEGO may not be catering to the AFOL and or the kind of kid Alcarin remembers himself being.
