  1. My point to Alcarin being his opinion not necessarily the only opinion and LEGO probably has focus groups and market research to help them out. Doesn't mean they always get it right. Plus, statistical methodology is observation with a side of common sense.
  2. But you were the "smart" kid, right? What about the idiot kids? Didn't they just want wizards and dragons and such? Unfortunately, the idiot kids are 90% of the kids. I am sure LEGO looks at sales trends and other information to help them craft a line- my hope is that the Kingdoms type sets were only derailed by LotR and that we return to something like that, though as a MOCer, sets don't survive past an initial build and a few days until I decide I need to cannibalize the parts- because of that fantasy is fine with me too.
  3. If we were designing for adults- then this is totally the way to go. I loved the more civilian Kingdoms sets for sure. I am sure where the rubber meets the road is how much kids love dragons. Always a dagger for the AFOLs! I am okay with fantasy as well. I would rather have interesting parts than interesting sets- but perhaps collectors and MOCers have very different outlooks on that.
  4. And how has LEGO space been recently? Is there currently a theme? No? They had Galaxy Squad, but that fizzled- and Space Police 3 before that- also fizzled. It has gone from an evergreen theme onto a slower cycle probably due to Star Wars. How about Pirates? The reboot of pirates only lasted 1 wave and why? Because PotC came out. And castle? An evergreen theme? I seem to recall a gap when LotR was first announced. Kingdoms ended and LotR began. People only have so much money, and there is no doubt it costs LEGO more money to produce two sets than one. We did have both Castle and Hobbit for a time, but the complaint from the AFOLs was that the castle sets were too kiddy- the explanation from many seemed to be Hobbit was for older fans and Castle for younger fans- in other words, designed so they would not compete as much with each other. Therefore I think it is more than reasonable to believe a fantasy theme would not be released in parallel with LotR. If Alcarin should step up to the polite plate when speaking to everyone else, then everyone else should do the same for him- right? That question is rhetorical by the way. I think having any fan of both give some input may have been wise. I am not sure why it feels like the quality took such a dive after the first wave- but it sure did. I think having the tie-ins with the Hobbit just got too hard.
  5. Watch the language. While this is an adult site, curse words are in the filter for a reason. Please be more mindful. Your opinion and I think you are only partly correct. I think Kingdoms was a great theme and certainly appealed to me more, but FE was also pretty dang good. I liked that is brought about non-human factions, dwarves, and orcs. Those orcs are still sweet. The poster however wasn't claiming FE1 is king, just that another FE theme would seem to compete with LotR. I agree, I do not think LEGO would do an FE theme and LotR (outside of dimensions) in parallel. I am all for polite discourse, but the style hear feels a bit more demeaning than encouraging discussion. Let's try to bring the "polite" part of the discourse a bit higher please.
  6. I think a Chima-esque faction would be fine so long as it is well done. The problem will be in the accessories. Jelly bean knights armor and helmets were slightly below okay, but the real issue was the blue swords! Yucky.
  7. You're right- the photos are a touch on the large side. Instead of going the spoiler route, why don't you just resize the photos to something more reasonable?
  8. Sweet build bro. Reminds me of "Fracture". Really does feel like Nocturnus!
  9. As kabel has said, do not quote pictures unless what you are saying is directly related to and requires a picture. Thank you.
  10. Doesn't that figure Kalle? I had waited a long time for the photo to render, and perhaps I forgot to click attach after it was finally done. Let's try again! I added it back to the first post now. Thanks pal.
  11. You can find the display stand and a LDD file here
  12. As part of the Slave I Retrospective topic, there was a request to see how the display stands were built. Seemed like a time to fire up LDD. Here is the stand- and the LDD file is attached. I didn't bother to make sure the instructions were good, but using the LDD file should let you figure it out. SlaveStand.lxf
  13. I took it to mean the former, so there was no offense. Yes, to you second question- each version is a larger than the last. Credits? Republic credits are no good out here. I need something more real! Seriously though, while credit isn't that which we seek we each took our own photos. Much of the push for me to do this parallel review is that I have the minifig Slaves for comparison while Masked had the experience to do a "proper" Reviewers Academy review. I do not have the celebration version, though as only 1,000 were produced. If I did, I think I would be tempted to leave it in the can. I would only need to Bricklink one piece to build one myself though. I think I would have left it out anyways as it was never intended to be any sort of minifigure illusion type scale so it may not have quite fit. I also don't technically have that Boba version, though I have the desert skiff version which is essentially the same with a different face- and I have the face from several storm troopers lying about.
  14. More time away. I will produce it in LDD when I can.
  15. Correct. Kudos to you!
  16. Yes, that can happen. The version following that, 6209, had the same mine compartment, so it was similar in strength. 8097 wasn't much better because that same "grip" area had the Han holding area. It could also break if gripped too hard.
  17. Must be. It is the only reason anyone could ever think that without requiring hospitalization.
  18. I think you maybe making my point instead of disagreeing with me. I think my initial feeling was disappointed because other UCS fighters have been so clearly larger than minifig scale while this one was not. Again, it isn't the first UCS that was somewhat minifigscale- it is just not necessarily what I would have hoped for.
  19. I'll try to get that for you. I am out of town for a few days for a family event, do it may not be immediate.
  20. Thank you for the kind remarks. I know this is long, but it was really a labor of love. There is still a kudos to be given out for a change in one of the Slaves in the family photo!
  21. On kudos to you! Another still up for grabs!
  22. If you love Star Wars, UCS sets, LEGO or Boba Fett, this is your lucky day! EB is proud to present the Slave I Double Feature! Start by digging into the most comprehensive Slave I review yet done by EB Reviewers' Academy expert Masked Builder! If that wasn't enough, you can follow-up Masked's review by digging into the Slave I Retrospective and UCS Comparison to see how the UCS set stacks up against the previous models! Click the pictures for links, or here for the review and here for the retrospective.
