  1. Myself and another member are in Minnesota though we have not met IRL. I know in Avalonia we have an active member from each of the following states... South Carolina, Indiana and Wisconsin.
  2. Yes, if you have access to fancier flashes or better lighting setups, go for it! Some good tips for those who have time to set up a good spot to take photos.
  3. Really funny entry. Funny is king! I like your first build best. so much polish on that one. Good job!
  4. I am glad to see Nocturnus lives! I like the first build of these best of these. The story is well structured a written. Good work.
  5. Hey, looks like Ecc didn't like being a count anymore. Nice GREEN star m'boy!
  6. Uh-oh, the plot thickens. I like the dk red and dk bluish grey combo.
  7. I think there IS in fact a few photo tutorials floating out there. Here is one from Hinckley. But here are my tips... 1) photograph outside where there is LOTS of light 2) To eliminate shadows, try to photograph on an over cast day, or where it is shady outside. 3) DO NOT use the flash. it creates shadows and distorts colors. 4) Because you are NOT using the flash, you must hold the camera quite steady or the photos will "smear" I have learned a trick here. I set my camera to have a 1 second timer before it take a photo. this helps me to hold the camera steady since pressing the button and having a photo instantly taken almost always makes the camera move. 5) use the MACRO function for taking close-ups. It is the setting that looks like a flower on the camera. It is king.
  8. Okay Kalphlings, let me know if I missed one... I have entered for CH VI Gideon Damaximus SkaForHire Erynlasgalen Kai NRG Masa of Kalphlin Robuko Kayne
  9. I really like the lights in the interior build. I also think the FP build is very nice. The seige/attack build may be my favorite of the three. Good job on making it symmetrical, yet not symmetrical.
  10. Welcome. Nice start sir!
  11. Very nice, well composed figures indeed.
  12. Very nice. I like the idea of incorporating real water to move the wheel.
  13. Thinking back on all the entries, I think I appreciate the stories that while they included the builder's character, focussed more on all the guilds like yours. The story is interesting and the builds work well with them. I think the battle scene is perhaps the best single scene in all the challenge VI entries.
  14. Thanks for the comments guys! This was really a challenge to get this done. I wanted to do a "hero habitat" for rogueang and a forced perspective build as well, but I just didn't have the time. The forge build there was the last one I finished and I took it right before sun set on the last day! I agree it could have been more developed, but that will come in time. I guess to a degree I felt Kalphlin had some "persian" type influences down in the desert, but my vision was to also bring in some Egyptian type influences with mummies and pharoahs and the like with the new "Desert King" faction. More than anything I just wanted to give an avenue for the next chapter to be able to have each guild have some autonomy to write its own story for a while before a new chapter is opened.
  15. I think I agree here that the strongest attribute is the figure combinations and they way they are posed. It's clear you spent some time developing this story and really got your builds to fit it well. Bravo!
  16. I didn't comment on this before? Must be mixing up comments here with the ones on Flickr! I love the small builds! The start of an alliance and the searching in Cedrica builds are both quite excellent, even though those are not the ones you choose to have scored, I just adore them. I always feel your entries get overlooked a bit. Maybe because they seem so effortless on your part. Glad to have had you with us for all 6 challenges!
  17. Your microbuild is definately the strongest, and the story is very well organized. The first picture for the microbuild is also excellent. I love the Brickington being in focus but the castle being unfocused. Sometimes the colors looked a little harsh, and other times they were spot on. Not sure what was going on there. I like to shoot my photos outside in the shade or on an overcast day with no flash. I find that helps get the colors to look as they should. When you shoot with the flash off the pictures tend to come out of focus ans smear when you press the button on the camera. I find you can overcome this by setting the camera to be on a timer so pressing the button on the camera doesn't cause it to move a bunch while you are snapping the shots. Just a few little tricks to try out!
  18. I am going to fix the title so it is clear this is a challenge VI entry. Excellent work. As a few others have said, you certainly have developed a style that is recognizable as you. All three builds are good, but I like the second castle and the stacked interior the best. The second build due to the unique shape of the castle and the interior for the good idea of making many modules and sticking them together. I felt like the interior build could have used a shot of dark bluish grey here and there to break up all the bley, but lots of cool little features on the interior. Your photos skills have also really gotten much better as well. Great job.
  19. I think you picked the right builds for scoring! Your interiors are quite lovely. Love the little teddy bear in there. A fun little Easter Egg for sure.
  20. I second this. Even with all the white it is still all easy to make out. Great job with the photos.
  21. Now that your story is posted, I like that you included builds for multiple guilds, and I knew you'd have a trick up you sleeve to make it original. Golems attack!! I think because you've promised to fill I the gaps with other topics, we are missing some of the story. It still feels more or less complete and I am intrigued to know where it goes- but that's just my two cents. I still like the interior best. Excellent work on the details and as others have said, photographing black is a pain, but you managed to make it all work. Which builds would you like scored? The interior (obviously!) and which of the others? Varlyrio? Mitgardia?
  22. Great work LD! Finally got a chance to read this all the way through in one sitting. I do love your irregular bases and everything looks so clean. It is interesting that you combined some of the scenes with other builds. It is 5 scenes in 3 builds! It was an honor to have you in the guild for this chapter of Historica.
  23. I tried to lobby for that- but the exclusive reviews bumped that.
  24. I'll be adding all your MOCs to the judging scoring sheet in the next couple days (I am giving them links and such to make it easier to tabulate since the scoring on this is a little different than before with the more points offered up). I'll also try to comment on the ones I missed while trying to get my own entry done. I am also IMPLORING all the non-GoH history fans to get in here and check these beauties out. hopefully some of your peers will notice how crazy good these entries were. Great job everyone!
  25. That is certainly large! This is quite the project!
