What do you think is the ideal size of vignettes?
Siegfried replied to Siegfried's topic in General LEGO Discussion
You're a pain. I recall there was a great one with a more detailed history, but I can't find it now. -
Yeah, I don't get it either. Why would you want to make someone else whack for you? In any case I'll amend the rules to allow this... but you can only use members who have approved their sig fig usage and they have veto power over your entry if you make them do something out of character. ...and a to you too. Here's another. Why the attitude? Anyway, I missed your earlier question as there was an excessively large (968 x 1,076 pixels) image in your post which kind of dominated it. If you really want to post it here as well feel free. Your entry is invalid anyway; it looks larger than 16x16...

Modifying your LDD

How does that work? Does it read just read the creation datafile? -
If you post at 2pm, go to the toilet for an hour, answer a PM at 3pm, go back to the toilet, and then press "New Posts" at 4pm you'll generally* not see what was between 2pm and 4pm. That's 2 hours of conversations you have missed thanks to being regular! Active Topics for the win! *It doesn't seem to always work that way. But Active Topics does show more.

What do you think is the ideal size of vignettes?

I prefer 8x8 too, but I like the added room of 8x16 in some cases. The results have been exactly what I wanted; clear preference (80%) for 8x8, and no clear preference for an alternative. Thanks to everyone who has voted so far. Sort of. It's not ISO approved or anything, but according to LUGNET Brickshelf user k-hatch made up the term to describe a 16x16 vig. I want something to point at if people say 8x8 is too small. -

Modifying your LDD

Thanks. This does remove any issue. Yes, I do agree with that. They should add that mode and have a giant disclaimer/warning explaining to explain that it's just for fun. That kind of stuff is great PR and could also be used as market research into what people want. But clearly they don't want to do this for some reason. -

The file is 99% XML. That's what I meant. I don't know anything else about it. I was just saying that TLG probably should have added at least some basic encryption to make this harder. -

True, but this is on the "getting started" page. The Creator parts probably were added to encourage people to buy Creator sets, and since Mindstorms is an expensive thing to trial it makes sense adding a way to demo it. Adding parts that TLG can't/don't sell has no business value. -

Yes. I sell software for a living and I completely agree. We're discussing this now. Even so, considering it's just an XML file TLG have made this too easy... It's already been said. LDD is a free tool made to sell LEGO via Design ByBE. This mod conflicts with that purpose by enabling people to add parts that aren't sold via the service. -
This topic always comes up, so to get in first... What do you think is the ideal size of vignettes? As is said on LUGNET 8x8 is the standard, but it certainly isn't the only size. Remember; your selection could shape future contests, perhaps even current ones, so vote now! (The descriptions for each size are from LUGNET, and while I like them, they are just names and are by no means "official".)

Sure, "Whacking" is flexible! Around, but busy with his new job.

Does Space Police III promote racism and xenophobia?

You're really going to have to up your posting standards. -
Very cool! Yes the proportions isn't perfect, but consider the scale it's close enough. When I look at it I see the shuttle and that tells me you've succeeded. Nice logic! It is confusing where things like this fit in. Sci-Fi makes sense to a degree, as does town. The Launch Command line, for example, was town. (I'm sure you know this, it won't belong in History next year. Even so, since Adventures go there and they are based in the 20s or thereabouts, would Robert Goddards work belong there? )

It's OK. Well they should be! Well since you're supposed to make them 8x8 and yours is bigger than 12x12, yes. (Also, they are supposed to be posted here.) Why the limit? It's to increase accessibility. Many people can't find the time to build, but it isn't too hard to find the time for a vig.

In the time before time there was the Whack-A-Fig contest... and here is the long promised sequel! For years Hinckley has been traumatised by memories of this walrus wedgie wiener whack incident... ...and today his revenge will be complete. Hinckley steals the Blue Bucket and tells Sinner / Siegfried / That Walrus where it is. It's such an obvious trap, but the buckets lure is irresistible, and he doesn't know that attached to it is a fridge full of Ice Cube Trays.... Now it's your turn for revenge; go here for more details!

All staff are potential targets... but you need to know their sig-fig. Svelte for example doesn't really have one so he's currently immune! So yes, you have permission. Probably. Since it's easy to make an entry (my demo took an hour or two) we may get a lot of entries. If that happens a impartial judge might select some highlights.

Everyone lining up to say "feel free to whack me" was one of my favourite parts last time...
-
No. You can whack as many as you want! There's always the underused multi-lever option afterall. You're still a babe. I like what you've done with your hair.

Happy Birthday! (Isn't this early? )

Post entries here for the contest. All other posts will be moved/deleted. Discuss and/or ask questions here.

Now it's your turn for revenge! Rules: Make a vig style MOC of your sig-fig whacking any other member's sig fig as long as you have their permission. To make things easier, if permission is granted for one, it must be granted for all. Permission requests and permission grantings must be posted in this topic. If you really must, you don't have to be the whacker, but if you do this you can only use members who have approved their sig fig usage and they have veto power over your entry if you make them do something out of character. Everyone who enters automatically agrees to be whackable... as are staff. If you haven't got a sig-fig you must pick one for the purpose of the contest. The whackee sig-fig should be close to the original, but it doesn't need to be perfect. (For example, if you want to whack me, a hatless or new-style-eye walrus is OK.) Whack, here, is used like "clobber", not Tony Soprano's going to shoot you. Think cartoon style violence. Only one entry per member. The MOC must be a vig built on an 8 x 8 plate. Sensible overlap is allowed and we will tell you if you've exceeded that, but as a rough rule your "vig" can't be wider than 10x10 at any point. (This does not mean you can make a 10x10 vig without overlap.) Post at most 5 pictures, with a maximum size of 800x600. No digital entries and only LEGO elements are allowed. Customs are allowed only if they are the sigfig or whacking accessories. Deadline: 14th April 2010. PRIZE: A LEGO Minifigure Ice Cube Tray! The staff's judgment is final. Violations may be mentioned in the discussion thread, or not. At the end of the contest, violations will be disqualified OR subject to a penalty as determined by the staff. Please avoid this by clarifying any rules which you don't understand in this thread. You may be required to provide additional photos. Entries are to be posted here. Now get Whacking!

I find it hard to believe too, but they are big enough and he say so on his Flickr page. Indeed.
