8295 Telescopic Handler Review
Siegfried replied to ZO6's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Thanks for doing this review! I own the set but want to recycle it so it was actually next on my list to review! It's a great review too; I especially like how you've shown the transmission path for the functions. As for the set, I'm undecided. It always seemed overpriced to me, but I got mine at a bit above half price! There's a lot I don't like about this model. For one, the steering is just plain odd. It's cool that it has four wheel steering, but due to the linkage via beams and ball-gears it feels that you are more requesting a steer rather than making it do so! The front and back are generally un-aligned because of this. I also didn't like the choice of using the stack as a stabiliser control stick. I don't mind it when it's used things like motor on/off or transmission, but as a hard link function I don't as it makes the model look silly when the stablisers are up. Getting back on the positives, I love the look of this model, and it has a good part balance and I do recomend it. (Sorry; I just hi-jacked your topic and semi-reviewed the set! It's just you've done such a fine job I don't think I can better it so I'll review another set instead...) -
Quick question about trading?
Siegfried replied to Modulex Guy's topic in Forum Information and Help
Our guidelines and rules can be summarised like this; EB is a fan site about LEGO targeting adults. Anything that deviates from that generally is not wanted here for one reason or another. I think we are quite loose in what we do allow here in our community forum, and that is because we want people who have met via this site to have a place to talk about other things from time to time. The sales forum is a special case. Laws regarding sales and export vary wildly... and we want as little part of it as possible. It's natural that people who love LEGO want to buy and sell it, and that's why it's here. But allowing sales/trades of non-LEGO items opens up the risk of abuse. Example? Let's say that I had a collection of Pez dispensers and I open a topic saying that I'll exchange those for any LEGO. Member A is a closet Pez collector and PMs me. As it turns out, I'm not a LEGO fan at all so when Member A PMs me I say "Oh darn, you've got nothing I want... how about you just buy them?" Member A loves Pez, so this offer is reasonable to him. Do you see how easy it is to abuse the system? That's the main reason for this rule. The BSTF is a service to our members, and we have no interest in becoming a fee-free eBay. In regard to PMs, I really shouldn't need to say it, but obviously that isn't allowed either. Afterall, sales PMs without request can result in a ban, and since we don't allow people to post non-LEGO sales then you have no way of knowing what someone is selling. However, and this is a big however, if you know someone is a collector and you're friends with them, then there's nothing we can do about PM trades. Just remember that we do ban people for unsolicited PMs, especially if they are a new member. (Any further subtle posts in this topic about what people collect will result in me changing the item to "Bratz Dolls". ) -
...and to boot you know someone read your topic.

That's the after sale price. I suspect they'll sit on the shelves for months... but heavy reductions are possible. -

Yes. Most of mine has come from Australia. -
I feel the same. I have no interest in making it harder to find the piece I want; I have enough problems there when I drop them!

Quick question about trading?
Siegfried replied to Modulex Guy's topic in Forum Information and Help
No. LEGO for money, money for LEGO, LEGO for LEGO... and that's it. Actually it is. -
I'm getting jealous! Any chance of a walrus? I'm not too fussed over the setting, but here's some examples of the fun I have.
-
In your case probably not. If it was missing or damaged TLG will often (but not always) provide parts. They know what sets have part problems; for example a batch of AT-ATs had the wrong torso. You can but ask though.
-
I didn't vote as a yes or no answer was too simplistic. I often sort larger (500+) sets while I am building, but I never do it first. For example, while building the Taj Mahal I used the three cardboard trays that came with the set to divide the parts up. The criteria changed thoughout, but as an example, something like big pieces and plates, bricks, small plates. When one box became bigger than the others I changed the criteria. I almost never sort by colour as that's something you can tell at a glance. If a piece is a normal 2x1, a holed 2x1 or an axel 2x1 you can't.

Dying and achieving none of my goals. (My goals are a secret so don't ask. ) Nah, I'm harmless providing you don't waste my time, preventing me from achieving my... wait a minute you are wasting my time! ( )

8265 Wheel Loader
Siegfried replied to Blakbird's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Thanks! I love this photo; That's what I'm talking about! -
So was space, castle and town; that's why I said 70s instead of a specific year period. People consider hippies to be a 60s thing, but surely you don't think that they all decided to change their ways in 1970? Like LEGO having no themes in the 70s it's true for the most part... unless people are being pedantic.

Sorry, I'm closing this....

To put a dampener on the whole reputation debate, if we did this the exact format wouldn't be much different to how BZP handle it since it'd probably use the same functions. But I can't see this happening. You've all made it seem too complicated and controversial. Thus this whole discussion seems rather pointless to me. +5 posades + 4 5150 Lego - 9 Svelte + 9 SuvieD

That's pretty standard, and it's what they tell you when you order. The reason why is because it's sent from either Denmark or the UK. -
Remember the rule; when in doubt give the most relevant but least complimenting title. It was me. Indeed it is!

You're thinking of the 1970s; 1982 had Town, Space, Technic... and Fabuland!
-
Regular Brothers Brick readers (like me) probably would have already seen them but for the rest, Moose Greebles at Flickr has scanned three cool old LEGO ads from 1982. Find them all here.

I read (and buy) them all via PDF, but I wish there was a cheaper way to get the print version. It might change when the colour e-ink readers become cheaper, but at the moment I vastly prefer reading printed material.
