Welkom / Welcome to Eurobricks. Although not my favorite scale, your MOCs are amazing and that MOC expert tag is well-deserved.

Great scene. Instantly recognizable as a SlyOwl creation.
-
Great fig. The quality of the molds and printing looks excellent (as it does on the series 1 figures). Shame about the leg printing. I don't consider it a big issue though.
-
Indeed, it appears faster.

I wasn't really thinking about 6 year old, but more like 10 year old kids. I think at a certain age, as a kid it would become an issue for me. But that could just be me, kids also differ, some will mind, some won't. And you of course could say that at 10 years old, kids would also be adapting their castles or chariots or simply designing their own. Anyway: we're probably making more of an issue of this than it really is.

Scania R500 Recovery truck
Rick replied to Ralph_S's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I don't venture in here (Technic forum) much, but I'm always pleasantly surprised when someone manages to combine functionality and looks so well. The self-centering steering idea sounds clever (not sure how common that is in Technic building) and the looks are absolutely great. I really like how you achieved some of the curves at the back of the cab (the combination of hinges and slope and inverted slope bricks). -
This is a great modular building WetWired. The dark-blue roof goes well with all the grays and white in the building and provides a touch of color, as do the awnings. The idea for a statue on the corner is great and you integrated it well. The wide stairs with the dragons are really nice as well. The interior is really lovely. The relatively 'calm' first floor, the beautifully integrated staircase, and the real 'treasure room' upstairs. I'm surprised at how well the Collectible Figs work as dummies. But that's probably due to a large extent to how you placed them as well. Excellent!

General Pirates of the Caribbean Theme Discussion Thread
Rick replied to Oswald the Rabbit's topic in LEGO Pirates
Well, the torso design and (mirrored) face are recolorings of the classic pirate captain's torso and face: -
You were wrong... The instructions are up for verification. You came pretty close though.

You're of course all right about LEGO being primarily targeted at children and that MOCing is a big part of it to children and AFOLs alike. So, no one really expects accurate scale (outside, for example, the Modular Buildings range, and even those may be 'too small'), but I think children and parents will mind that the chariot that belongs to the same line as the castle they bought, won't fit through the castle gate and that the drawbridge can't be readily combined with that same castle. You would expect a certain degree of compatibility within a single theme (at a single point in time).
-
Your topic title could be a lot better but indeed you're probably right Modularity was one of the great aspects of the castles of the 1980s. All sets could be combined by means of technic pins and, as far as I recall, all carriages could enter all the castle gates without a problem. I can imagine it being disappointing for parents and kids that a carriage that is sold in the same line as a castle can't even enter the castle. However, as a downside, the drawbridges of the 1980s castles merely crossed a bit of living room floor (not much of a defense).

power miners in 2011 :D
Rick replied to The Yellow Brick's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
I highly doubt this information is correct, considering the lifespan of recent 'Action' themes: typically two waves. Also, the page mentions nothing more than descriptions of the second (2010) Power Miners wave. -
Lovely little island paradise. I can see where the coconuts and bananas come from, but the pigs? Do they fall from the sky?
-
I certainly like the basic and pretty realistic look of this passenger train. I do agree that the black panels look out of place. The hole in the passenger car floor is ridiculous, but one of the biggest disappointments has to be the lack of doors.
-
Indeed, very nice use of the crystal pieces. Amazing, so many details in an 8 x 8 space.
-
Nicely camouflaged forestmen hideout. I really like that it is situated on/under a waterfall. The SNOT-ed log bricks used as a floor is really inventive (it's probably a known technique, but this is the first time I notice it).
-
Amazing work Dave. The color scheme great and the architectural details are just right (not overdone).
-
Great little module BlueBard. Lots of attention to detail (as usual).
-
Send in your application, so I can pre-order this thing. Great job converting it to 'official' modular standards.
-
That second one would probably be 'Miniland' scale. Most likely not. Moreover, it'll just look weird in a minifig-scale town. Didn't it say in the announcement that it would be functional? Don't count on anything being in there. It's a display model, not a real playset.

Another cute winter set. I have to reconsider not getting the winter toy shop now. Choices, choices, ...

Doesn't seem to be the case. I can't see the RA, but still I see Big Cam's post count as 6,131 next to his posts and 6,129 on his profile page. Of course I can't see all of Big Cam's 6,129 active posts, because I can't view RA posts. But ranks are still based on the 'Post' count to the left of forum posts, right? (So all the posts you ever made, irrespective of whether they were deleted.) Just 1,869 posts to go until we have EB's first ever Arch Duke! btw: Weird, I'm not 'missing' any posts by the above logic, even though I recall replying in threads that were later deleted/hidden.

What a mess... in a good way. The bustling crowded street looks very realistic. All the little details are simply overwhelming. And the lighting is a really nice touch.
-
So, so, but nice sets for the small amount of pieces. The new cap mold was bound to appear in white somewhere sometime. Does this mean a new police line for 2011? Looks like they skip hospital/ambulance then. So is it just Police, Fire, Police, Fire, ... from now on?

LEGO Collectable Minifigures General Discussion
Rick replied to Nabii's topic in Special LEGO Themes
He did see a bad picture of the whole series, he just forgot the rest Indeed, wouldn't make much sense to say he forgot 3/4 of the figs when he really merely wanted attention.
