I agree, but then again its hard to make this universal (however this flag isn't too hard to turn into a Dutch flag ). I would also have preferred a modern firetruck, but the 1930s engine looks very nice from the pictures and we can always make our own firetrucks (although they should have extended the rear entrance by two more studs for my MOC engine to fit in, right now you have only 19 studs). From the description the first (EU)/second (US) floor seems to be fully furnished (fridge, ping pong table, couch). They could have done some more with the interior of the left side of the ground floor though. Compared with CC and GG (why is there no FF acronym for this one?), I find it a bit hard to see where the 2000+ bricks go in this one. I would have liked a brick-built (integrated with the building, not so 'thrown on top') bell tower as well. It just looks too 'fragile' and it stands out too much now. We're just spoiled too much... it looks great.

The twins' ship is my favorite of the whole space police line 'cause it looks so 'punk'. Not that I'm getting any space police sets (not at more than half price, that is, ... I think... maybe customize it as a bad-megablocks vehicle for town, ... stop doubting, you're not collecting another theme!). edit: I don't remember ever typing megablocks in this forum, oh wait, I probably used a nasty word there... Great review btw!

I don't like snot ( ) either, but I love SNOT But seriously, how can you be against creative use of pieces? Isn't that what LEGO is all about? btw: The fire house rumors some months ago sounded credible to me, so I still have my fingers crossed for a really detailed fire house.

I think the attachment to the building would look best with bars (or antennas) attached to - for example - headlight bricks. (So attach the bar sign to the bar using bars ).
-
I don't really like to attachment (with plates) to the building... and straighten out those 1 x 1 on the left side of the sign! But those are my only complaints... nice job otherwise.

Mine is a little bend, but that could just have been the wind blowing at it from a certain angle The round fruit tree is definitely my favorite tree, it hasn't been around much in the last years (but that's true for all trees, plants, and flowers). Btw: the City Corner (7641) could have done with some more green (just one lonely flower )...

Now that I think of it, these are the reasons for me as well to get it... I think the tree was even the main reason. But as was said before, for a car that is supposedly to be towed by 7638, the hood should be able to open and the hook of 7638 should be attachable to the front of the car!

This is frontpage news! It took me some time as well to make the mental switch to 6 (or even 7) wide trucks when they were introduced with the World City line... it just looks much better next to 4 wide cars and the two extra studs allow for much more detail and interior space.

Thanks, never seen something like that. Windscreen: http://peeron.com/inv/parts/6070

I really like the front and especially the back of the truck (a someone said before, excellent use of that window). The tracks look a little weird to me, but that's probably because I haven't seen such a vehicle before (do you have pictures of the real thing that this is based on?). I'd like to see it with the wheels fitted as well: did you allow for this possibility in the design of the truck?

Check his Brickshelf folder I second these comments. Especially the equipment looks really cool. Too bad though it isn't exactly minifig scale. I've been building a European fire engine too, and I know how hard it is to stick to minifig proportions. My engine is 6 wide in the front and 7 wide in the back. Also, I restricted the number of compartments in the back to two (instead of the usual three) per side. As a result it holds a lot less equipment and people (only 4) though. * going back to checking pictures to see if there are some ideas I can 'borrow'...

My vote also goes to Hinckley: he reinvents classic town in an almost* completely studless fashion... *you forgot to cover up 8 studs on the red building

Congratulations (gefeliciteerd) koffiemoc and all the others for great entries... PS: from the voting thread I had the impression that it the top scores were really close. Unlike one of the Otters I didn't bother to add them up myself though... are the scores going to be disclosed somewhere?

I think the mailman (with Indy bag!) could be a sign that more postal sets (post office?) are on the way in 2010... (why does that &$^!@ Spielberg face has to keep reappearing?)

You must have waited with your signup until this member number came along. So, it seems EB has hit the 6xxx range of member numbers. Many good classic sets in this. Castle (60xx), Pirates (62xx), Bigger (63xx) and smaller (65xx, 66xx) town sets. I would almost consider signing up again Duplo beats Znap easily. Anyway, my member number comes back to this supplemental technic set.

I was expecting more entries like this in the competition, in the sense that it looks like it could have been released by LEGO in the 1980s. Very nicely done street scene. Lovely buildings that look classic townish yet realistic. I hope LEGO continues its 'City Life' subtheme with sets like this: the EBCTC should be a great source of inspiration to the company.
-
Really really really creative and nicely executed scene. However, it doesn't breathe that classic-town atmosphere that some of the other entries do, except for the yellowed bricks and plates on the (really nicely done) horse truck
-
I don't think the topic is about 'saving for...', but rather about saving sets in MISB condition. Anyway: on topic, I don't actively do this, although I have a few MISB copies of sets bought on heavy discounts. I only have one 'mail man with yellow bike' extra in MISB condition.

The placement of the monorail, all the details are really nice. The buildings just look a little plain in my opinion.
-
Nice entry that really captures a classic town feeling. I like the doors used on the warehouse and the green truck. But the details pointed out earlier - like the statue - are also really nice.

Another echo here... classic yet contemporary

How would you like your civilians: toasted, grilled, or flamed?
