Yes. The old fort had the boat structure on it too, plus there would be no good reason to fire from that side of the fortress as there will be a whole harbor there!! I am running short now I am afraid. It is hard to to have all the right white pieces. The good news is that regular ol' bricks are fairly cheap to have on bricklink and I have a pick-a-brick in the Mall of America not too far from here. Sometimes they have regular whit bricks. last time I was there they had a ton of white 1 x 3, so I have a lot of those, but very few 1 x 4 and 1 x 2 lefts :'-(

Just because your name starts with an 'F' doesn't make you automatically 'F'unny!
-
Given the costs of non-MOC cannons, I might have no choice! I'll keep after this fella, hopefully I can get a bricklink order with a bunch of the pieces I need soon!
-
Ah, so Duke likes the forts!! Or so I heard. Yes, there will be some guns out of the lower holes. In fact I made some more progress which might show jst that... pics please! Obviously the green plate is just a space filler for now... but there it be! Progress, progress, progress!!
-
That is us! We have been spotted... and aboard a pirate vessel? maybe we are trying to give letters of marque to Phred so he may attack the other side (Spanish, British, whatever) with impunity!! I like the table in there as well, but I have a feeling we are being set up for a Greedo/Han Solo match up...
-
I think it is okay in dark gray, but realistically the choices are light gray, black and dark gray if one is not going to modify the pieces and use the castle pieces for the armament. I think the size of this thing gets lost in the pictures though... it looks kinda smallish but it is quite large now, and will get bigger once i get the parts needed! (aka baseplates)
-
So here it is with the gray. This is much better. I still wish I could do it in yellow... oh well... anyhow...
-
Okay I put the photo up. it was this one... this is the front view of the section being replaced.
-
Oops... haha there was supposed to be a picture there!! I will add it and reply when I get home. I am at school now. 3 hours or so and I will get that all fixed up!

Now there is maybe 2 cannons on the fortress section, I think there will be a minimum of 16 on the new section. Yes, well Torre de Belem is somewhat of an inspiration. I guess the shape of the bottom is going to seem that way because it is the best way to be able to fire from all angles. I am also adding a tower to the back where the old section meets the new section, so shap wise it will seem Torre be Belem like, but looks wise it will be quite different. Well larger flags will be further back, but presently I do not have one to add anywhere! YES. I completely agree as per my first post. I would prefer them in yellow of white, but the pieces just aren't right. I actually did make a few in dark gray too, but the only weapons in dark gray are the fancy halberds which might be too big for them to be so close together... hmm... I will stick on the dark gray ones I have and we will see. So the part I am replacing is the stuff OFF of the raise baseplate. There will still be a connector wall section running between the armory and the fortress as there is now, but after that the little square thing is being zapped for larger fort. This would be the front view of the current section

Well maybe... All I am really going to do is lop off the old Fortress in favor of the new one when it is done... then with the left overs, perhaps another small outpost could be had! Like I said, the old fortress is too weak to repel an assault so I thought I would strengthen it a bit. I will post links to the old fort and do so comparisons tomorrow, as it is now past my bedtime!

Phes said we were due for a new WIP thread, and the forum has been a little dead lately, the calm before the storm maybe? Anyhow... I had mentioned that I wanted to expand the fortress capabilities of Fort Brighton because the Arbiter II and the Venganza could blow it to smithereens without much problem, especially since the fortress section was so weak looking. Anyhow, I started with CAD as per my usual method, but soon realized the angles were all wrong on the walls, so I brick built the begging of the fortress expansion. The size on the pics is a bit deceiving I think, because this is thing is rather large. It is definitely a WIP so suggestions are appreciated. I wish, for example, that I could make the 'statues' in all white instead of black... and I am not entirely sure how I feel about the little corner decorations above said statues. Anyhow, let me know what you think! I just noticed I am over 500 posts! Knight baby! Yeah! Now if only I posted else where so as to become a fellow... oh well, I think I will stick with pirates for now! This project has been completed. Fleet Listing? Army Listing? Discussion thread
ZCerberus replied to SkaForHire's topic in LEGO Pirates
Yes, the answer is yes. Good move Tiber! -
Well I am addicted to the Legos in the attic, so maybe both?
-
That's true, but I don't know where I would put it! the attic already has problems fitting everything!
-
Nope! I think the ITP is the only Imperial Guard set I never owned! Maybe it was this regret that lead to the building of Fort Brighton.
-
Tiber... a couple of notes for your MLCAD-ness First you can rotate things to a smaller degree by selecting the smaller grid on the upper right, or you can manually enter the degree calculation by clicking on the keyboard icon. Secondly, and perhaps more importantly the deck is quite easy to get where you want it. Just use plates along the sides stacked three high with the a 2x width plate one plat below where you want the deck to start. Or if you want the deck removeable, 2 plates lower and then add tiles one lower. I think this is the same advice Phred was giving
-
Well I, of course, was referencing the whole set. Oh on the contrary! there are TWO in that set, one white and one black!
-
Well if he a couple of different pieces, the maker could totally make the gun ports vertical! It would require some odd brown pieces though, 4 modified plates with clip, at least two (maybe more depending on build decisions) 1 x 1 brown plate(s) (or 1x1 round plates) and two short brown bars (light saber sized) which I know are readily available in reddish brown (and brown too I think).
-
Dude, you're totally going to ruin his story!!
-
Well I wouldn't say I am a 'master ship builder', perhaps as an 'active ship builder' I would say I like the idea, but there are some issues with the build that may turn some off. For example, I like the general idea which I think was to use brown bricks and make the sides look like planking. The problems are several. 1) the shape of the bricks is somewhat odd as it is rounded, which isn't really all that authentic. Though I usually do not advocate 'realism' over cool factor, for a diorama I guess I expect more realism. 2) there are no three stud or one stud length bricks of that type, and I am also not entirely sure how many pieces the builder has, but because of the fact that the pieces needed to be staggered by an odd brick (at the very least on the ends) every other row to stay stable, there was a necessity to use the round one stud bricks throughout the build which does look a little strange. 3) the build method makes all the "planks" look 1 stud long 4) finally, because of the SNOT technique, the gun port openings open side ways, which is a little odd.

there were some white ones on the ITP. so at least 1992!!
-
Yes, I did noticed, and I have fielded such questions from you before!! I was just saying the difficulty is alleviated due to the forum!
-
I agree. Like I said, I think small ships in many ways are harder to build and still look good! I also like the color scheme given the name. But I won't consider the hull 'brick built' in the traditional sense. technically speaking, I guess it is brickbuilt in that it doesn't us a unified hull, but the ship does use the 'bow' pieces from many sets used to make hulls for smaller boats. It uses several of pieces which I think is different than the large brick built hulls we have seen on other ships as the bow on this fella is a fixed piece

This is why you ask what it is on the forums silly, and peeps track them down if they happen to know where the head is from! The question was asked and less than a day later I could tell you where it same from. Not always. Especially with newer pieces. This head for example is part number 3626bpx286 on peeron but 3626bpb222 on bricklink. If you know the set number though, then you can use either inventory to get the number they use on the site. They also take their own pictures and use slightly different references. Peeron for example calls this head 'Minifig Head with Gray Beard and Eyebrows, White Sideburns and Hair Pattern' with this picture While bricklink says it is 'Minifig, Head Beard Gray Fading to White Hair, White Pupils (King Mathias)' with this picture Other parts, however, have exactly the same number! Like a standard 1 x 2 brick is part number 3004 or a barrel is 2489 while newer parts like the KK2 dark knight helmets numbers are very different, x1196 on peeron and bb52 on bricklink
