Triple post! Haha I am sooo lame! okay, well anyhow, this is the progress I made yesterday, but didn't get around to posting... I am studying for tests, so I am not my usual zippy self! I am also short a bunch of plates and what not. Anyhow, the ship is getting heavy, and with the latest editions, it now actually kind of looks like a ship! so here it is... I am missing a bunch of plates and some red hinges so the side wall isn't attached well yet. I also got a better shot of the cathead for Phred!

Strike your colors, you bloomin' cockroaches!
ZCerberus replied to Norrington's topic in Pirate MOCs
If you do the swap, remember that the secondary color on the RBR hulls in dark gray, not red!! -
Looks like your Imperials are out gunned! I heard Duke is sending in backup though, so you better watch out! The DDW looks like it could take the Charlie, well maybe! I think when fighting a ship of this size best options are 1) RUN AWAY! and 2)If the Charlie could cut across the rear and take out that huge rudder on the DDW, it might have a chance to get some reinforcements... where is Duke when you need him?

When you do links like this, you don't have to worry about the links being public! Deep links work immediately You may want to try thumb nail links though... here is what they would look like! If you don't know how to do this, we used to have a link to a tutorial... I found it... click this link for the tutorial As for the ship. Overall, nicely done! Good sail color, and overall color scheme design, custom made hull, and a working anchor pulley (which is either a windlass or a capstan depending on how it functions) are all excellent features! A few suggestion I might make though... 1) though the fencing on the upper deck looks very decorative, if you continued the hull wall structure onto the main deck, you could add more guns up there if desired. That is up to you of course! 2) I would make the foremast (front mast) taller. The main mast and the mast at the fore should be fairly close in height. Though I am not big on historical accuracy, I think it make the ship look a lot better! 3) I have made a couple of sails in my day, and I think the ones here look a little too rectangular... I would try to make them flare out on the sides and convex at the bottom! 4) You better get that fine looking crew of yours on the ship lad! Over all I think this is a nice ship with some features many of us with multiple ships still haven't ever tried. I for example, am trying for my first time to make a capstan/windlass and brickbuilt hull! I applaud your creativity and fearlessness in taking on some of the hardest and most advanced building techniques my man!
-
I couldn't agree more!! Still, even though I applaud creativeness and don't necessarily care for historical accuracy, I still like a ship that looks like it could actually sail. With the height of the ship, the lowest canons would almost certainly be under water or the ship would capsize if they were above water! Either way, I think you have some good ideas here... the skull in the back, custom made masts, custom anchors, interesting figurehead and a removable mid-section are all nice touches! Like I said though, it might be a bit too tall and I think you have changed colors a few too many times. Overall, I like the creativity and some of the design elements. I think if it weren't as tall for its length that it would be an excellent ship!

Here the updated catheads, they are fairly similar to Phred's idea, but a little different hinge plate. Also, I think I might not have shown a picturing looking to the bow from the deck, so there is one of those too...
-
Nice... unfortunately I will not be using your design as I received a small bricklink order today with the parts for my cat heads/ they are remarkably similar though... great minds must think alike! I also have plans for the lower bow too, so we'll see how that turns out. Edit: I used this piece instead of the two Phred had referenced. ... but the designs are pretty close to identical. Thanks Phred!

I feel like such a goon when I double post! Oh well!! So here is the progress, I didn't do much since I am studying for finals, but I added a railing and made a couple of cannons for the forecastle, both inside and on top... I have four different caliber guns now... the regular Lego cannons, some smaller guys on the main deck, some guns that are even smaller than that on the forecastle and some swivel guns on the railings. Progress and cannons... different caliber guns... swivel guns Location of the small guns (maybe they are long nines!!)
-
Well I think I am changing the figure head because it doesn't fit with the ship more than anything else! I think I will use this figurehead on another ship. Yeah, I think Blackbeard did ground one of his ship. I thought it was because it was rotting so he was just trying to get rid of it! Well I think I am going to use another figurehead, I am just not sure what it will be yet!
-
Really? Even if the ship is named "Charon"??
-
I agree, the evil level is higher than an Imperial ship should possess. I might tone down the figure head and what not, but it is far too large for a pirate vessel... Teach, Roberts and Phred are the only Pirates known for using large vessels.. Anyway, due to the balance of those two things.... it is going to be an Imperial ship, and may require me to make it look more regal and less menacing!
-
Well I think I will give it some sort of official name, but its nickname will be the Phantom. I am not sure i will keep the figurehead, though it is cool! Maybe I can call it 'Charon' or something! Okay... a few pictures... I have tests next week so updates may be a bit slow. The windlass lowers and riases both anchors at once. The photos should only be 1024 x 768... the sizes should be updated soon I hope...
-
I made some progress. I am still not completely satisfied with the shaping of the bow, but it isn't terrible or anything. I am also not sure about the figurehead on an Imperial ship... but I guess since I am considering calling it the Phantom, it might work...
-
What? Who has a new title? Oh me... interesting! wow, when did that happen? Yes, I wonder this myself!! Yes, the will trim down. I am wondering if it will be small enough to use the Lego mats when I get higher up. Yes, the decking has some slide rails, but due the the way they open, the sections will have have to be removed via technic pins first. :'-( Silver accents? I think the camera angle me by playing tricks on you!
-
The pressure is on!! I hope to make some progress tomorrow!
-
Ah... Phes, get your head in the game man! I think you will notice more than Tiber and Willy! I think you will see yourself, me, Tiber, Willy and others... we already talked bout this earlier in the post... Looke here and you see that all those peeps are also on the bridge!
-
Pillage away! But Red and Black was used by the French during the golden age of piracy frequently! And both myself and boneparte have been partial to that scheme for Imperial ships ourselves! As for the name-- Though I think 'Hateful Shark of the West' is uhhh... neat... I like Crimson Blade a little better... never can go wrong with the ol' Adjective-Noun combo punch. One other famous 'Crimson' name I can think of... 'Crimson Tide', which I believe is a title to a submarine movie that came out in the 90s. Maybe it lacks a little originality, but it might fit with the ship! You may also wish to give it a name in another language. Like I have a Spanish ship that I wanted to Call 'Revenge' so it is called the 'Venganza'

Just one. Another Frigate for me! Hence the reason I think I am only going to be able to swing 44 guns or so, barely more than the Arbiter II! Then again, what I have built already has places for 12 guns, and add a couple chasers and I am up to 14 before you know it! If there is one thing that I do, it is unique! I agree that it needs some stiffening... except it is not built out of bricks but vertical plates, so I can't really use that piece! I will figure something out. Yes, that is the plan. They are going to be too tall for traditional mast pieces, so I wanted something that looked somewhat round. Thank you Mister Admiral Phes This will be my first attempt at building a brick-built hull, so we will see how it turns out! Hopefully I won't completely run out of pieces! Well if you recall from Master and Commander, they called the Acheron a phantom ship because it appeared out of nowhere and whipped their collective tails! I called it that in jest in that post when Phred asked if I was building one, but I had no pictures to shares at the time, so I just pretended he was crazy. But I don't know what I am going to call the ship yet, so we will stick with Phantom for now!
-
EDIT: Because of the new forum formatting, adding to pic to first post. Phred spotted a Phantom! Phantom spotting I was not sure what to call this ship, and I am still not sure, but I am starting to like "Phantom" actually! Anyhow... these are very early shots of the bow, but i think it is forming nicely!! pics anyone? Right now she is going to be red and black similar to the Arbiter II. I want the over all feel to be the same, so expect some black statues and tan sails! The Arbiter II in case you are new here... It is 26 studs wide on the deck, i might reach 28 or so at the base of the slope. It will have 3 masts, and 44-56 guns. I am going to have to go custom for a bunch of the cannond, so I might have to dip into the index for some ideas! Here's to hoping it turns out well! Comments welcome!

You say no invasions at the fortress, open water is a different story? ;-) Maybe instead of ghost ship you should say "phantom ship" so people don't think I have a "ghost ship" Yeah... it would be cool if this phtom ship existed None that I know of. Maybe they do something at the Mall of America. I would imagine if they did that the event would be focused more to the lil' ones and not as much towards the ALF community!
-
Well I will add more palm trees when I get a chance. When I reunite the fortress parts with the rest of the harbor, hopefully it'll look quality!! For a while? Are you planning an invasion Phred? Well I suppose I could leave a ship or two as a garrison the Covenant and Sienna could be posted for protection which would add another 20 or so guns! (Covenant is 18 guns, the Sienna could probably only have 6 guns total because of the narrowness of the hull... so another 15 broadside I suppose) Then the Arbiter II and Fortune and Adventure could patrol for pirates. The again, Phred seems to believe I also have another ship in the works, maybe it will be able to crack some skulls... If such a ship were to exist I would imagine it will probably have 40-50 guns.
-
Looks pretty good Phred-o, but I am not sure how I feel about the Red Yardarms... maybe you are running low on black, but the red just doesn't float my boat!! Also, once again you are forced to use rown :'-( I feel your pain! Duke: Maybe you should make an alliance with someone with more firepower! ;-)
-
21 + 12 + 2 = 35... that is just an estimate... that means you would need a 70 gun ship's broadside to rival the power... then again, not all the guns will be at the same angle or anything... still, not bad!
-
Well it appears Brickshelf is malfunctioning this morning :'-( but... ship in progress? Whatever do you mean? :-D
-
So I decided to start construction on the battery of cannons on the other side of the harbor. I made some good progress! Here are the new shots... You can also see the changes to the larger fortress section. It is 3 studs longer and so there is another cannon on the bottom, and I removed the side roofs to open up the top of the fortress a little more. Here you can see the table I am working off of right now. Bricks are everywhere 8-(
