  1. First you'll notice I said it would be a misstep, and I wasn't being entirely serious. The main reason I said that was to distinguish what THIS thread should be about versus the "official" set thread. that thread was discussing how Smaug should be built, and to me that thread is not for speculation on a character we don't even know will appear. Do I think he SHOULD appear? Certainly. Is he guaranteed to appear? No. Should the official set thread be cluttered with that? No. Did you all complain when there was wild speculation and wish lists in the official 2013 thread? Yes. Did you guys go back to doing that even after the topics were split? Yes. So I thought I would start the thread off with the kind of stuff the we should leave out of the 2013 official set thread. Anywho, there were iconic elements of prior license themes that never made it in. PotC BARELY got a Davey Jones, and the rumor was there was going to be a D2C Flying Dutchmen and it got cut. Same thing could happen here if The Hobbit doesn't sell well. I do agree it is different in the fact that The Hobbit waves are based off the movies that are currently coming out. We got more stuff from Indy 4 and PotC 4 then the more classic movies, and this could happen here. However, I also think after the 3 Hobbit movie there won't be any more Hobbit sets. I also think LotR could dry up at the same point. That means I only really see maybe 3 more waves to get all the LotR and Hobbit stuff you want, and honestly, I am SURE some of the characters will not make it in.
  2. Cactus fin plant thing is super cool. Good work man!
  3. Very nice. For some reason, I couldn't figure out what the flag sticking out was at first.
  4. Any information on this build?
  5. The first part of your posts talks about how you are joking and sarcastic- how is anyone to know when you are being serious? Secondly, what does someone say to that? People here have become friends, so there will inevitable be some cross-talk, but something like that is just too hard to comment on.
  6. Did we get every character or iconic set we would expect from Pirates of the Caribbean? Was there a Dutchmen? Of the Governor character? No. Do we get the classic tank scene when Indiana Jones had it's waves? No. There is no guarantee we will get a Smaug. I think it would be a bit of a miss step since Dragons are awesome and kids and adults love them, but there are no guarantees!
  7. Don't sass talk me. This thread is for the 2013 LotR sets released in June and the Hobbit sets that will be released in December. We can talk about Battle at the Black Gate or Lake Town Chase, but sets that haven't been released or listed are purely speculative and they belong in the future sets category. I'll meet you guys half way, I'll sticky the Future LotR sets thread and make a sticky one for The Hobbit since you can't get along with the LotR guys. If the set list is from a reputable website, then yes, discuss the list, but don't discuss a list people just make up, or what mold we would use for Smaug. I mean really, we may never even see a Smaug and I don't want 17 pages for that. Same thing with the Bear. As I have made it clear. NO It just seems inevitable that as soon as one of you guys mentions "The Smaug set" every 13 year old who wanders in here thinks there IS a Smaug set. Then we get 6 pages discussing a set that doesn't exist. The first post has links to the sets we know about, that is what should be discussed here. You know WHY we have a future LotR set topic? Because you guys were complaining there was too much speculation and not enough talk about the sets that actually exist so I was forced to split them after the complaints rained in. Stop that discussion now. Yes, the 2013 sets that ACTUALLY come out can be discussed here. Analyze Lake Town Chase all you want, even discuss set lists posted from a reputable site, but other than that, keep the future stuff OUT of here.
  8. Discuss. Keep unknown sets out of the 2013 LotR and The Hobbit discussion.
  9. This still sounds like FUTURE set discussion. This thread is for 2013 sets we KNOW about.
  10. Lots more talk about the movies with no tie in to the sets, which we still know nothing about. Come on people. Stay on topic. This is a LEGO Lord of the Rings/Hobbit topic.
  11. We have any more freebuilds up in this guild before Book II launches? Anyone got anything for ol' Albion?
  12. Sorry Kai, I meant hopefully one of the OTHER Core Leaders (rogueang or Ecclesiastes) will get something together soon. Yes, that is what I meant!
  13. Welcome to Nocturnus Welcome to the Darklands! If you are new and want to join the fun here, you just think of a character/sigfig for yourself, post that sigfig in this thread and start building. Don't forget to put in our red and gold standard, the Nocturnian colors! If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask. To get an impression of the Guilds and Nocturnus, just read along. Section One: Guilds of Historica Background The bard’s song tells a tale of a world long forgotten, Race against race, clan against clan, shields clashed with swords; long ago when Men of the Lion fought Men of the Falcon, and human armies succumbed to Orcs and undead. Each group clashed with its neighbor for power, unleashing upon the world a great scourge, and the arcane land was thrown into chaos. When it all seemed but lost, a council of wise men and sages was summoned. From all the lands they came to convene in the old world’s great city; the fortress of Cedrica. To settle the grievance and end a millennium of bloodshed, the sages declined all the treaties of old and joined all the clans into one mighty Kingdom; Historica. They founded the Four Great Regions- each one a realm in itself; - Mitgardia in the North, Nocturnus in the East, Kaliphlin in the South and Avalonia in the West, so that trade routes would spring up and clans would meet in the markets and not in the theatre of war. The wise men chose a family of great honor, to uphold the truce and to keep the four guilds from dispute. All is not as it once was. The Black Mage, Victor Revolword, unleashed a new scourge on Historica, taking Cedrica as his own. Though a united Histrocia defeated Revolword’s elemental monsters, the King of Cedrica is missing and the Guilds of Historica have been thrown into chaos. With the wise King’s absence, each guild believes it would be best suited to rule all of Historica, internal struggles have brought each realm to the brink of civil war! This is where the next chapter begins. The battle to take Cedrica from the Black Mage has ended, but the battle for your own guild has begun! Section Two: Guild Background and Theme Nocturnus: The Eastern Darklands Map of Nocturnus by Balthasar Landscape: The guild of Nocturnus governs the eastern darklands, comprised of the Kelra labyrinths to the west, the vast and rugged Rakath mountains running all the way from the Mitgardian peaks to the Siccus badlands, through to the far eastern swamplands of Moruth. The Kelra Labyrinths are home to the Minotaurus and Reptrians, who hold sway over the arrivals of foreign guilds to the eastern darklands. Often a sizable 'donation' is expected as well as the correct answer to one of the many riddles posed by the Minotaurus. Should guildsmen fail at this task, they may be pursued through the labyrinthin stonework and bracken by the Reptrians who hunt for their prey within. Those skilled at passing through the depths of Kelra will find themselves with the next challenge of how best to negotiate the mountainous divide of Rakath, home to Dwarves, Orcs, Dragons, and of course the Drow, an ancient species of dark elves. Is the high road the best plan? Does a trip to the underworld yield better results, not many return from these ranges quite as they were. Finally off to the eastern Moruth swamplands, home to the army of undead things....the least said of this ungodly marshy area the better, though it is rumoured that this was the homeland of Lord Ssilyrrlith, and where he began his journey to ascendancy of the guild Nocturnus. You will find humans surviving scattered throughout the darklands, they will always find a way to prosper, but its how they prosper that leaves them a scarred race... Capital: Nocturnus Resistance- Abyssian Castle Capital: Black Spire- Obsidian Spike The Tribes: Perhaps the most remarkable feature of Nocturnus is not the land itself, but the many non-human tribes who inhabit the land. Though some of the tribes have united under Sslither and the Nocturnian banner, many are free standing societies with their own culture. Check out some of the multitude of tribes here! Standard: The standard of the Nocturnus represents not only the blood spilled, but the lust for exploitation of natural resources. The rich veins of ore running through the Rakath ranges draw many races to its bosom, only to be horribly changed by the hostile environment within, only the strong adapt and survive. The red and gold are a constant reminder and rallying cry to all the creatures of the darkland, it is a symbol of the strength that the guild master must possess to lead such a varied and unpredictable band of races. Economy: The Nocturnus guild earns a lot of its wealth from the sulfuric lava flows, rich veins of mineral ore and a recklessness for personal safety. Section Three: Recent Guild History Following the defeat of the Black Mage at Cedrica, the guild of Nocturnus was invaded by the Black Spire, a group consisting of Hand of Corruption soldiers, Varlyrian shock troopers and Drow rebels. Nocturnus is now in chaos. The Black Spire quickly conquered nearly all of Nocturnus before Lord Sslither's forces rallied from Cedrica and a band of brave Historicans from the other three guilds made a brave stand at Abyssian castle, Nocturnus's capital. During the battle at Abyssian, disgraced Avalonian General, Trian Buress was killed by Black Spire forces. The push back from the Nocturnians weaken the Black Spire's grip, but did not break it. Today, the Black Spire has conquered over half of Nocturnus and constructed a fortress, the Obsidian Spike, to serve as a command center for their forces. The Spire now controls all of the eastern and southern portions of Nocturnus while those still loyal to Sslither hold the northern and most of the western lands. Both factions now wait for orders from their Lords. Challenge I starts soon! Section Four: Guild Members Core Leader: ZCerberus- this is the memebr who you go to for changes to the thread, member disputes and game question from Nocturnus. 14. A note on the core spot... it will likely reduce some of your building time as there will be administrative duties to handle as well. I personally think the core spot should be a high priority, so hopefully the core people will get something going soon.
  15. Totally okay, in fact, it should be encouraged.
  16. Okay, okay, let's get away from this before someone says something they shouldn't... I just wanted to vent since I felt my contributions and our attempts to make the next chapter MORE open were being marginalized. I VERY intentionally said nothing about Beery personally, so let's keep it that way please.
  17. deleted the duplicate entry. Good luck with the project.
  18. When I think Mitgardia, I think of this.... That's not to say different regions can't look more like something else, I guess I just wasn't picturing Northern Germany.
  19. Yep. That's what I mean. The Z show. I haven't taken in anyone's feedback to help us move in a new direction at all. I didn't read Ska's constitution or get the other EB history staff members (Ecc and rogueang's) or now former Guild Leaders input and meld them with the winning lore direction at all. This direction isn't in response to the GoH surveys we did or the discussions we had about what what did or didn't work for Book I. I just decided it was time for me to be in charge of everything and screw all the rest of you. We didn't implement something to allow guild members input into the official story line, or a way for more people to participate more by changing the challenges to add categories. And what's best, I don't even deserve to have any input. It's not like I was doing anything before the end of Book I. It was by chance that I ended up as one of the History Regulators and it certainly wasn't all the behind the scenes work I was doing for GoH. Yes, this is the Z show, and I have kept you all in the dark about all the discussion the Guild Leaders have been having so there is nothing you can do about it, and no input you can give to help shape where this is going before Book II even launches. I haven't tried to promote GoH in History and prodded the mods to finally get tags approved, or frontpaged challenge VI entries which did bring in a few new members. Good thing all the other guild leaders gave challenge feedback to those who asked and changed topic titles and other such things upon request since I wasn't doing that at all. Though DC never officially or publicly stepped down, I certain wasn't running the day to day workings of Avalonia since the end of Challenge III. Or helping come up with story direction or challenges since then. Good thing I wasn't keeping track of vote tallies, or prodding the other leaders to get their voting done. It was also so cruel of me to accept prizes for winning challenges IV-VI in Avalonia since my sense of fairness said even though I never started a build before the challenges were announced, I was helping to shape them, but who cares, the Orcs are MINE MINE MINE. Yep, the Z show is all about Z and not a good direction for Historica. And though I have NO ties to Avalonia at all, I am going to try to take over a second guild, Nocturnus. That's right, since I haven't done anything for Avalonia, which is dead and has no membership and Nocturnus has been so active and brimming with members, I am just going to move to the most active guild and take over there as well. Welcome to the Z show, where the only thing that matters is what I want the Guilds to be. Good thing so many other people had the authority in some capacity or the willingness to suggest a new direction and go through the proper channels to get the ball rolling. Bow before Z, the egotist who has taken over. BOW now!!
  20. Agreed. Name changed. Really? No wonder it was so drafty all the time. He should have looked down!
  21. What we REALLY need is a dk brown travis brick... and the 1 x 1 plates to go with it!!
  22. I like them more uniform personally, at least certain ranks. I do think the lowest rank can be totally random, so maybe a little mash-up would work well.
  23. I sense a little hostitlity from GravGunner- chill-out man! I always envision Mitgardia being so much more Norse-ish. Interesting that Northern Germany is where you draw inspiration, that is totally where I would draw stuff from for Avalonia. Painted half-timbers everywhere!
