Custom as in ones not sold in set, probably. Custom as in ones including custom parts, probably not.

My opinions! (I own them all.) 8285 I bought mine for parts and it's the biggest Technic set that I did that with. It's good for that. As a model it's weak; side on it's very see-though and many of the functions seem very tacked on. I suspect they planned to make it a higher price point but changed their mind. Even so, in proportionals it's quite accurate. The functions that it includes though are well done and it's a mechanical monstrosity. I recommend this cheap only and for parts. 8421 Very cool and part dense set. As I've said elsewhere the pneumatics are too weak, but it's more of a functional representation. The steering is very good and the three segment boom is still unique. I recommend this one as an investment of for raw cool power! 8110 Functionally possibly the best Technic model ever. Very well designed compact compressor, transmission, four wheel drive (with center diff) accurate suspension, wonderful looks.... I can go on. For playability this is the best bet. Buy one... or win one! Bonus! 8258 This is the ultimate mechanical monstrosity that TLG have ever made. Amazing gearbox, decently realistic stabilizers and four wheel steering. I bought mine for parts.... and it's still together. Extra Bonus! I'm merging this topic...

Important Points! Unless you just want to discuss it for the fun of it, don't get too serious about the banner ideas. We're changing it, we've been discussing it for a while, it's just that the new Regs aren't boffed up on it. It won't be a retro one. On a similar note as long as I'm staff on EB there won't be a new forum post style review index in Sci-Fi. Long term I hope to replace all with the Set Index which has every review indexed and can be browsed without having to load 200+ images first. I do feel similar about MOC indexes... but if the new Regs want to make one that's their call.

Ummm.... this isn't really about Technic so I'll move this and merge it with other shop topics later.

For the most part by being a major site.

Since we have a fresh topic I'll unpin this...

Hayabusa, the second LEGO® CUUSOO release

Oh, so I do have a chance to get this with a reasonable price... -
Maybe, but that's not on. We have subforums for a reason, and if everyone posted in every possible relevant forum it'd be a real mess around here. I'm merging the topics.

Thanks everyone for the nice comments. My work here is done! It's OK for me right now; I think it's more inland. Even so, it has rained a bit today...

8421 Mobile Crane
Siegfried replied to technicfan's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
To be honest *ducks behind couch* I think this set could be improved with one. I love pneumatics in things like the 8455 Backhoe, but they aren't as good at holding weight without constant pressure. Yes. This has to be the best Technic set ever. The function density is just amazing. -
8421 Mobile Crane

I've got a half finished review... that is I've take some build photos. I can post them if you want. It's a cool set. The crane function is weak, the arm is too heavy for the pneumatics, but it's still very cool. -

You should have fixed the first post... -
Indeed. Did you think those rules were there by accident? Honestly, just do a Bricklink search. It's not that hard.

Eurobricks.com is pretty good... but if you want a second opinion I'd recommended Brickset.com.
