I think not being an MOCer is why we are having this disagreement. It's true that there many different ways to look what is desirable in a Lego set. Totally not true. But ZCerberus already defended that point so I'll leave it at that. This "guy" actually consider both bricks and minifigures when I decide what sets to buy. Take Forest Ambush for example. I bought 2 of them because I got 8 minifigures and some great castle parts for under $25. Now, if that set only had 2 minifigure a piece it would not have had as much appeal to me. I do MOC, and I do like variety in bricks for that reason, but I also like large quantities of bricks to build larger MOCs. Take Minas of Moria for example. Tons of bricks without too much variety, but they are great for building castle MOCs. I ended buying 1 and selling all the minifigures just so I could get the bricks at a cheaper price-per-piece ratio. Anything else I could say would be a repeat of what I've already said or that has already been said so I'll just leave it where ZCerberus left it. Agreeing to disagree.

I picked up the owl in a recent bricklink order. Couldn't resist since it fits so well with Mitgardia! Yes, I see what you mean (of course it's only after I've taken pictures and posted them that it becomes obvious ). I was going for a textured feel, but there is definitly room for improvement there. Thanks! I've been experimenting with tree designs for an upcoming build in Avalonia. It's hard stuff! Thank you for all the praise! I'm actually not too happy with the border, but I'm glad you like it I thought it looked too sporadic even though it is symentrical. I have plans to make it more mellow for my future builds. I've really enjoyed this challenge, thank you to you kabel, and to all the Mitgardia leaders who are putting so much work into it! Thank you! The portcullis took me so long to get right. I'm glad you like it!

Thanks for the building info!

Yes, when I saw his figure again I knew right away I had to include him in Mitgardia. If I may ask, what do you not like about the other figs? I will do my best to stomp out any traces of this illegal slavery! I didn't mean for it to seem like slavery was an every day occurance. It's something that's happening outside of the law. Thank you! Thanks! I've been working to make sure my story flows well, it's been great to have this as an outlet for that practice! Thank you! This was my first attempt at such angles and I'm glad they turned out well.

I like the black water and the exposed hollow studs from the inverted slopes. Too bad you couldn't get it in in time for the contest!

Freebuild Nocturnus (Black Spire) The Liberator
MKJoshA replied to The Architect's topic in Guilds of Historica
This made me smile and laugh I was suspicious that it was a movie tie-in, but it wasn't until your last picture that I realized what this was. I don't know if it fits within Nocturnus and GoH, but it's a great freebuild. -
Age of Mitgardia (free-build-challenge)

Here is my Gatehouse Phase III. Yay! I'm a Gatekeeper now! -
See the previous tales: Wyndor's Saga Chapter 1 Part 1: A Tragic Beginning Part 2: A Rude Awakening Part 3 Intro: An Evil Plot After leaving Northridge, Wyndor traveled south. It took him many weeks to traverse the land of Mitgardia moving from one ancient site of safety to the next. On the road he heard tell of the defeat of Victor Revolword and rumors of unrest across the land. He met many people along his way. Some of whom helped him, others whom he was able to help. Mayhaps these stories will be told one day, but for now we join Wyndor on the edge of Nocturnus. He has come to the final gate, just south of Hykerbia, before leaving Mitgardian territory. The gate was in a wall that stretched from the mountains to the sea. It was commissioned by the Jarl and finished shortly before his disappearance. The Jarl was quick to state that the reason for the defended gate was not mistrust of Nocturnians, but rather a desire to improve all defenses across Mitgardia. When he was asked why he started with this particular part of Mitgardia the Jarl had no answer. Wyndor had heard rumors of Mitgardian slaves passing through this area a couple weeks ago and came to try to find his lost brothers. He sold his horse to a trader named Otar. He was explaining his story to the captain on duty, trying to negotiate the opening of the gate. “Listen, I am the first son of Graham and a true Mitgardian! I have honest reasons for passing through this gate, as I have explained to you! Wyndor argued. “There is a civil war going on in Nocturnus Sir Grahamson and I will not admit a stranger through the gate at this time.” Responded the captain. “How many times do I have to tell you that I had no knowledge of such a war happening! I’ve been on the road for many weeks in search of my brothers. Now open the gate or give me better reasons for refusing to admit me!” Wyndor shouted. “It’s the wolf on your chest good sir,” spoke the stranger. “The sign of the wolf often means association with the Wolfpack.” “Well that IS news to me. In all my travels since Northridge where I bought this armor no one has hesitated to assist me before or accept my assistance.” Wyndor replied. “Well good sir, these past months have been in no way normal **muttering under his breath: perhaps he has lost more than time on the roads** Well never mind! My name is Steiner, defender of Fangnorst and the truest Mitgardian you will ever meet! **muttering under his breath: and if you meet a truer one I shall have to best him in combat to prove the error** I have sworn to protect all of Mitgardia!” Steiner began. “Well, this is a most unique person indeed,” thought Wyndor, “but perhaps I can use that to my advantage.” “Sir Steiner, it is a pleasure to meet so valiant a Mitgardian. As I was telling the good captain here, there is a Mitgardian being held prisoner in Nocturnus as we speak. Mayhaps I could recruit your assistance in freeing him?” “WHAT!” shouted Steiner. “A loyal Mitgardian being held against his will! Captain! By order of Steiner, defender of Mitgardia **muttering under his breath: and all who might need my help**, open this gate! “I only open it because I have orders to comply with your requests” stated the Captain. With a creak of the gate Wyndor and Steiner set off into Nocturnus. See more pictures at my AoM entry.

On the border of Mitgardia and Nocturnus, just south of Hykerbia there is a heavily defended gate guarding the way into Mitgardia. To increase it's defensibility only one portcullis is opened at a time. After everyone who is passing through the gate has entered the inner portion, the first portcullis is lowered and the second is raised. If trouble brews while travelers or troops are within the inner portion of the gate, archers can fire down thorough the floor/roof to quell any problems. Comments and suggestions welcome! This is my third and final entry for the Gatehouse portion. See more pictures in my freebuild entry which tells Wyndor's story at this gate.

This is great! I love that this build and your first one connect. And all the tools and items around the "lab" are a nice addition.

My feelings exactly! You have a point, but you are still missing some pieces of logic. I might buy 10 $20 sets over 5 months, or I could wait 5 months and buy 1 $200 set. The difference is if I want any variety in what I buy, 1 $200 set wouldn't give it to me. I would end up with a whole lot of black (Orthanc) or tan bricks (Simpsons), but I wouldn't have variety. If I bought 4 $20 LOTR sets and then 6 $20 sets from other lines I'll have a lot more in my Lego pallet to work/play/build with. That's my number 1 reason for not liking the D2C sets. It's not that I can't afford it or can't save the money for it, it's that I don't want all my Lego budget eaten up by 1 kind of set.

ANNOUNCING: Guilds of Historica Book II: The Civil War

That is strongly encouraged! Building up the back stories of your characters is a great way to make your freebuilds more interesting and can earn your guild points if you also post it here. -
Book II - Mitgardia: Guild sign-up and Discussion
MKJoshA replied to Ecclesiastes's topic in Guilds of Historica
Well, I haven't quiet forgotten about it. I've just had so many other builds to work on -
That actually makes no difference for me. My work schedule is different every week.

This is a really great build! I love the base and the SNOT floor. Great job! If I were you I would invest in a piece of poster board to go behind your MOCs for photography. That would greatly improve your pictures. I would also add some greebles or tools around the build. For a lab it looks a little too clean.

RESULTS INCLUDED: Book II- Challenge 1- The Battle for Nocturnus.
MKJoshA replied to ZCerberus's topic in Guilds of Historica
Well I for one was hoping for more time to build-up my greenary collection as well as my green baseplates. Oh well, it'll challenge my building skills which is a good thing. -
Yes, and we hate him for it. He's become the next George Lucas.

Thanks! This was a first try for many different building styles for me. My first go at a round tower, stained-glass, and cheese-slope roof. I'm glad it all flows As for Halloween MOCs, I'm not a big collector of "scary", Monster Fighters, CMF monsters, etc. So I think it would be challenging to build anything appropriate outside of Nocturnus builds. Thanks! It took much longer than I anticipated because I kept running out of cheese slopes and having to incoporate more tiles instead!

I'd really rather they didn't make a D2C Mithas Tirith, because I want to be able to afford one. All I can say for want I would like to see is Gondor, Gondor, Gondor! I really hope there are more LOTR sets being produced over the next couple years than just what's rumored so far.

I was actually thinking the same thing... maybe we will have to fight a duel for them if Peppermint can't decide what she wants to do

I know we are in Nocturnus, but please, that's too much of a nightmare to think about! -
Yeah, can someone say "obsession"?
