  1. Well I think most know I like the Red Guards (vs Blue Soldiers) better, so it should be no surprise that I think the Imperial Flagship is better. I like the sail design, and because it uses the smaller hulls, I feel like it looks more compete, with far less blank space. On the other hand, if I were choosing which one to buy (like the other thread), and thought I might 'part' the set, with the exception of the minifigs, there are some superior pieces on the Clipper (tall mast base, wider hulls, yellow parrot) so in that case I might switch my vote!
  2. Extras? Who said I have EXTRAS? I don't even know what the word means! I do like the masts. It is difficult building round things in Lego. I wonder if they are a bit too thin though. I guess I shouldn't talk as the ones on the Phantom and Leviathan are probably too big, but I was thinking they might be a little thin given how tall they are going to be!

Permission? A pirate never asks for permission!! Plus the pieces were Phred's to begin with!
  4. Dangerously close to Canada? Last time I checked, Saint Paul was in the middle, heck even southern half of the state! I bet you are equally near Canada m'boy! So yes, that means USD!
  5. This is actually not a "terrible" idea... well except that tiles cost way more than plates. Maybe if I find a pick-a-brick with some gray, reddish brown, or tan tiles I will look into it!! Well I often say I would prefer not to know. I think it has only been like 200-300 on Leviathan, but I am also using a lot of left overs from the sail-less "Phantom"
  6. Now multiply that by 20 per deck, and then 3 per deck... $101.52 just for the 4 x 8 plates! for the main three decks... then I will need a fore and stern castle, and some non-4 x 8 plates, and some 8 x 8 grills, some with holes in them... merg. I am definitely considering changing the decking color, but it is on a "some day" basis due to the expense!
  7. I like the docks especially. I really like land MOCs. I also think the ships are pretty good. Has Phred added it to the index yet? I like the balcony/window structure on the stern of that ship. I am not sure we see enough balconied ships (ala Soleil Royal) around here!!
  8. You may also considered dipping into the EXPANSIVE torso sticker/decal design library we have here for other torso designs. They are very well crafted and will allow you to make some very special, and custom minifigs!!
  9. I love the look of those brick walls!! That is one of several things I have considered adding to Fort Brighton
  10. Well if I could wave a magic wand I would probably do the decking in Tan. But I simply do not have enough tan (or even gray) to come even remotely closely to being able to change the color. I would need a few hundred dollars worth of plates to change it!!
  11. Regularly, more like the old times!!
  12. yes, I would agree. I wish I had some way of making the bottom more vertical so the ship appeared more round, only problem is it will then be in the way of the slides. I am trying to figure something out though. Thanks for the advice!
  13. Thanks all. I shall try to do a better job of keeping in touch again!
  14. Hi all. Sorry for the long absence! Lots has happened since I was last here... I passed the Minnesota state bar exam, moved, and started a new MOC which is the focus of this topic. The Phantom, in case you are curious, is still sail-less for now! Onto the new SHIP OF THE LINE! Leviathan!! It is going to be a combo of the HMS Victory and Soleil Royal, though I do not plan to have another deck over the exposed guns. Anyhow, it is a start! Still early, but here are some snaps!! An overview. Here is shot of the rudder, notice the gears, it moves when the ships wheel is turned. The whole side of the ship is removable to allow access inside. It is loosely held on by magnets, but I am working on a more solid system right now. A few parts will also slide out for more access. That way you can reach interior stairwells and the capstan!! and a shot of the part that slides out. to prove I was planning on forever leaving you, a shot of Phred and I enjoying the build! and a parting shot of some of the details I hope to work in. That's it for now! I am in the middle of a job search, so if the updates are a little slow, please forgive me. I hope to get more done soon!!
  15. This is an excellent first crack at MLCAD. I like the little merchant ship and the construction you used on it. Very nicely done!! Phes- I could see this as a small Lego Pirate set from the "Armada Era" of Lego® quite easily!
  16. Excellent work on this ship. Good sails, and excellent rigging. I think I recognize a few of the techniques, but I see you added some new ones O have never seen before! Very nicely done! Top ten ship for sure! Now if you could only learn how to get those pesky images in the posts, we wouldn't have to wait for the brickshelf folders to be public!!
  17. I agree, with the white stripe all the way through it is much improved! Here is the mast platform on the Arbiter II. It is a little dark with all the black, but take what you can from it! Kurt, the Royal Texas Architect has some vigs up with a view of a mast platform here... As far as details, you could also add a bell like the one on the Arbiter II or Phred's DDW
  18. I think I said above what it was, but I will repeat myself for you! It is the shiny stove pipe that comes out of the fore castle. There was a tradition in the Navy for trying to keep it shiny by polishing it all the time as it would get very dirty from all the smoke come out of the pipe!
  19. Thanks for the contribution Captain... but we already knew about that one! It is Ben Flesk's Constitution... I think it is already in the MOC index!
  20. I had a similar experience with the "spanker" sail on the New Covenant. Click the thumbs to see the difference!! I'm sure you will get it ironed out!
  21. Well the base is made out of the same part as the spy glass... it is chrome silver and about twice as tall as a regular round 1x1 stud. The top is a curved chrome piece, probably found on some trucks/car sets. Sounds cool. It is a bit too far away to make any commitments, plus at my current rate, who knows if the ship will even be done! j/k. I might have to think about it!!
  22. The Charlie Noble is the shiny stove pipe. The spy glass is made from the light saber handle and some taller round piece. I think it is around 6 plates (two times taller than a brick) tall. Is there a Lego convention in the Midwest that you know about Phred? Still needs sails, some more rigging and some details for the captain's cabin. But I am working on this ship as well as rebuilding three, and working on two new ones. The remodels and one of the ships will be rather minor, but I will post some progress here when I have made some progress!
  23. I am still working on the Phantom. It is close to done, only really needing some sails and some interior work on the Captain's cabin. At any rate, I have a few little updated pictures. I added a second jib and a sail on the mizzen as well as getting some more of the rigging done. A look at the fore detailing, including the Charlie Noble! A look at the stern and the marines as well as the curved staircase in the back. The look out in the crow's nest of the foremast
  24. Thanks... it make me much happier now! The most recent version of Firefox has a spell check built in and it is compatible with this site. I highly recommend it. You will see me forget a word every now and then, and spell something wrong if I am on another computer, but no spelling error really bugs me except tomorrow! Anyhow, they look really nice! A++!!
